ok guys here is my story connected to my 21st century styled fighting force the EDF from the planet Eden...
please be aware that if you do take the time to read it...that 50% of you will proberbly hate the story and the other 50% of you will be offended by all the grammer and spelling mistake that are undoubtedly contained within it... im not a novelist... but i try...
anyway just be aware... thanks for reading
The history of the Eden
M37 The largest terraformer Titan class vessel ever constructed by the hands of man leaves mars on a mission to claim unknown space. The ship is called 'Eden' and is commanded by Admiral Constratis, one of the finest and highley decorated leaders of the imperial navy fleet.
Eden, by far the largest ship ever constructed was a new breed of terraforming ship capable of landing on an usually habitable planet and within time, able to transform the planet to become fully capable of sustaining human life. On board the ship was a half a chapter of 'Nova Marines', 10 regiments of imperial guardsmen and all their families. Eden also held 10000 various vehicles accociated with the imperial guardsmen and space marines as well as earth moving equipment and construction vehicles.
The ship quickley became famous as the imperial navys greatest achivement, never before had a ship, in acsess of 26 km length ever sucessfully been launched from the planets surface. The 30 hypernova class afterburners created a massive blast on the surface of mars it can still clearly be seen from orbit now.
Eden had everything it needed to create a new civilisation, on a new planet in another galaxy... the mission was simple, carve a path through the darkest unknown space and make a new, clean Earth.
The passengers of Eden were all vollenteers, the ranks of the guardsmen were all from a mixure of imperial planets. The Novamarines Took the mission apon them to accompany Eden, beliving that this was in fact a truely worthy cause and needed them if they were to sucseed.
The commanders of Eden were hand picked by the emperor himself to lead the mission and see that they got the job done. Although amongst the 1.1 million people aboard the Eden, the most important man had yet to make his mark on the universe, a seargent called Jim Straxious who would some day become the most important man aboard Eden.
The Massive ship left the port and headed a course towards the unknown 'ghoul stars'. The ship moving at maximum speed still had a millenium to reach the edge of known space and beyond to find the perfect planet.
27 months after the mission began the ship was intercepted by an tiny unknown vessel with unknown racial markings. Hailing the alien ship proved useless and the alien ship followed Eden at speed for a week before the alien vessel made contact with Admiral Constratis. The aliens looked unlike any known Xenos they had encountered before and spoke an unknown dialect that had not been heard by any of the transcribers in the command chain.
The aliens seemed desperate to pass a message, the alien, now known as k'sth began to show images of a spacial anomily that he showed layed ahead of Eden and the alien showed drawings of the ship entering the anomily. Admiral Constratis became warey of the unknown alien and decided to ignore the warnings and continued to head towards the goal. After 17 hours the alien ship vanished from scans and Eden was alone again... but heading for disaster.
The anomily was big, so big infact that by the time they picked it up on the scans, it was already too late... the massive pulsing swirling hole drew the ship closer to the center, a cataclysmic event thought to be a black hole, the same studied by scientists for millenia. As the ship got closer to the event it became apparent that this was not infact a black hole, but a wormhole.
Throughout the studies of mankind, the theorys behnd wormholes were created but never proven. Scientists belives entering a wormhole would transport you to another place in the universe. Some belived that you would be sent to a parralel universe, while some pbelived that it was a gateway to time travel itself. The day the Eden travelled through the giant wormhole, all these theories were finally proven.... correct.
The titan class ship spun and shook, everyone on board the ship thought that they had shifted from their universe to the galaxy of chaos. When the ship finally stopped and the wormhole had collapsed, they found themselves in a vast inky blackness with few stars. The kind never seen before. Astropaths desperatly tried to locate their positions, trying to comminicate with others via the warp... nothing happenned, no message could get through... they were somewhere far out of reach from the rest of the imperium, in a area of space unimagined.
Navigators ploted a course towards the nearest star hoping to find a planet within the system, years past and new gererations were born and the old died. Many inhabitants of Eden chose to sleep in stasis for the journey many did not and the circle of life was not kind to the hopeful who thought that the mission would end, or even start within thier lifetime.
After 117 years the ship finally reached the destination star and found many uninhabited planets, many were unsuitable. Lava planets, planets with methane atmosphere and some barren frozen rocks, but the third closest planet from the star a giant dry barren rock, the ideal planet for Eden to terraform.
With no atmosphere, Eden easily landed on the planets surface and began process of changing the world to be an planet breathable by humans. Eden deployed its massive vents that pumped gasses and liquids to try to form the atmosphere, everyone on board knew this was not going to be a fast process. Even on a world with a atmosphere, to make it habitable for humans could take 500 years... first estimates for the planet now known as Eden were in the millenia, perhaps many.
The imperial rebellion.
Every human on board the ship were forced to go into stasis by the novamarines, they knew the impact the thousand year wait would have on the minds of the inhabitants of Eden. It is well known for many crew to lose thier minds on the long journeys between systems, never being aware of day and night and the impact that has on the physical body. Depression and suicide is commonplace for many and is a better way out that partaking in the wars of the imperium where they would likely be killed in action regardless.
The Novamarines knew this and they too went into stasis for the long wait. Only a brave few, with families decided to man the ships services and make sure that everything ran smothly. One of those men was seargent Jim Straxious.
42 years had past and Jim had turned 68, now an old man he thought he discovered the true meaning of life while looking in the records of mankind. Jim became facinated with the stories and files of the 21st century, when mankinds technology grew greater as every year past, only the millenium before , man was a barbaric race of savages, no better than the orks man fears now. Jim learned the importance of culture, and of love.. a scarce emotion to be found by a guardsman on an imperial mission. for many months he read and absorbed all the knowledge of early man, from the vast storage of data in the vaults of mankind.
Jim knew what he must do, he decided to create his own tempory civilisation aboard Eden, while countless humans slept unaware of his utopia. Jim released a hundred humans and a few guardsmen and he told them his plan. The majority thought it could work and was better than sleeping with no actual proof that the terraforming could even work... Jim became master of his world and as the new civilisation abord the ship flourished they released many ohters to help live their lives.
There was one problem Jim didnt take into account, the fact that humans were all different. The humans were all from different planets and all shared different beliefs. Some belived that Jim was going against the emperor and factions were formed. The ships inhabitants became at war with different idealoigies. The factions fought and released new fighters from the stasis fields.
Jim Straxious knew that his project had failed and knew that history would always repeat itself if humans were involved. The last Act of Jim Straxious was to irriversably damage the powersource to the stasis field, releasing everyone aboard the ship.
In the main control room Jim Straxious died from a massive powersurge that disintergrated his body... the only evidence of his memory was a wall, painted with text describing how the imperium had forgot about Eden and how it was mans right to start from a fresh, a new civilisation, lead by democracy for the good of all.
The Novamarines had been relased from the stasis and took control of the ship, the commander of the Novamarines was an open minded man called Gartamis who allowed the inhapitants of the ship to split the ship into 2 halfs, one side beliving it was their right to start again, and the other who belived in the rule of the imperium.
The next 250 years was lived in relative peace, the Nova marines and the imperial zealots and the free thinking league of mankind waiting for the terraforming process to finish. Although not comfortable with the anti imperial faction on the other side of the ship, Gartamis did understand and knew that Eden, the greatest achivement of man had been forgotten and lost forever. Gartamis knew the importance of survival and saw generations of space marines and guardsmen die and knew that he must try to do what Jim had tried to do 250 years in the past. Create a new utopia.
Gartamis was a space marine, he had seen some action in the 37 millenium fighting orks, all Gartamis knew was violence so he created rules based on Jims idealology. Broken rles were punishable by death.
When Gartamis finally died of old age he had suceeded in making the rules for his perfect society, and his rules were adhered and enforced for the further 820 years before the massive fans of edens terraformers finally grinded to a halt and the automatic locks were relased on the vast cargo bay doors of the giant ship.
Eden, geology
the planet Eden is approximatly 300,000 miles around.
the planet does not spin and as it orbits the sun ( called Straxious) half the planet is bathed in scorcing hot rays, Eden has 17 moons that orbit the planey made from white hot rock that reflect rays down onto the planet, because of this the whole of eden has the abiltiy to be lit for 10 hours per 'eden' day the other 14 hours it is dark, the darkness is sporadic and depending on the positioning of the many moons and areas that would be dark one day might stay lit for the next few weeks depending on the location. It is generally assumed that the planet has a dark and a light side although it is not strictly correct.
Eden is a very sandy dusty world that in the heat of the sun can reach temperatures of 150 degrees, any human caught without protection in the light side of eden would die without a doubt, the planet is vast enough though that there is no reason for anyone to venture to the light side anyway.
In the dark side of the planet there is no vegitation native to the world, the eden ship held massive stores of plantlife that seems to be able to survive o the planets surface, and now whole forests and grasslands are able to thrive in soem places.
The dark side of eden has a large mountanous area that contains vast lakes as a natual occurance of the terraforming process, the largest mountinous outcrop seems to be the magnetic north pole and has the best breathable air and coldest climate.
At the foot of the Largest mountain in a permanant shadow cast by the moons the city of Eden, a vast white flat series of domes connectted by giant tunnels. Most of the city was created using the Eden ship, and now there is little of the ship to be found.
The city is shielded by giant mirrors that hide the city under the veil of darkness. The technology is thought to be of TAU origin.
