As for the heavy weapons in tai fire teams, it goes specifically against fire warrior doctrine to have organically integrated heavy weapons, so I would believe that there should be heavy weapon drones instead. If that's the case just throw drones in squads by themselves wielding heavy weapons or have a targeter with the sniper drones basically but with heavy weapon drones. You could also give most of the heavy weapons to the big suits. Really i don't mind seeing fire warriors with special heavy guns myself here and there but if that's what they're going for then ok. I don't know the lore but i don't think people would complain too much even if the fire warriors wielded heavy weapons with normal foot soldiers.

I wouldn't been a few heavy weapons here and there but one in five? Game balance aside, I have kind of a hard time imagining the weak Tau carrying stuff around that it normally takes a huge ork, a superior space marine or a pair of Imperial Guardsmen to carry.

I think it's much more likely to be one heavy weapon per ten, that's the rule of thumb at the moment it would seem. From a fluff perspective, the Tau develop weapons for themselves to use, so it's not odd at all that they would be designed with the ability of a firewarrior or firewarriors to carry them. It's likely, in my eyes, that it will be an option for a drone variant.
The only issue I have is that the Tau seem to be becoming alien guardsmen, and I'm not cool with that daddio....

I would asume it would be one in six, as the tau numerical system works in threes, and if they did bring in heavy weapons for firewarriors they would be more compact, lighter, an safer than imperial weaponry, albeit maybe less powerfull. Also, I hope that they don't take away the moral check when the ethereals die, as that's been rumoured, as that was one of the main fluff reason I take them, I do however, want them to develop their abillities over the other castes.

As long as the ethereals aren't developed to be an order giving unit with a list of three or six orders depending on the seniority of the ethereal and extra ones for special characters, then I'm cool with it them being bigged up fo sho. Tau count in threes? But three is the magic number... Does this mean Tau are magic... Should I abandon my post and drink tau blood so I can be magic? MAGIC....

Really getting the feeling that the Tau are being transformed into a IG 'lite' (less of the drastic drawbacks of Guard; squishy men, poor statlines, etc). I'd rather most armies would have a unique feel to them, but then this is GW, where 60% of the available armies are SPHECE MAHREEIN variants.

and I'm not cool with that daddio.... Holy nuts! I practically did a double take with that daddio line. How long has it been since anybody has said that? So vespid and kroot are kind of like the imperial guardsmen's ogryns and ratlings? Not sure what the rumors all are but guardsmen don't have so much jetpacking around or giant suits even if you mention the sentinel. I hope they come up with a new system for tau rather than orders. Really when you think about it orders and eldar psychic farseer powers are about the same with a few significant differences (perils of the warp and perhaps a couple others). However i have faith it'll be something different like dark eldar's roll a d6 for combat drugs or similar. Also fire warriors actually have good guns unlike guardsmen basic troops. I think tau are far too mobile and similar to eldar to be like guard. In fact other than the suits and poor melee i'd say tau and eldar are very alike currently.

I see your point FKM, yes there will still be significant differences in the actual models and standard of equipment, the issue I have is that the over all 'feel' of the Tau seems to be edging towards an elite guard formation. Think of an all veteran list led by lord commissar with all the trimmings and some nice shooty LRBT'S.
IG 'lite' as Hookah put it.

Yeah but i think tau tanks are still too different from leman russes. Leman russes have good armor and are slow while tau vehicles have annoying disruption pods, are fast, not too tough and are probably more used for tank hunting or small time heavy infantry killing. Leman russes kill infantry and heavy infantry too but so much better. If you were to compare the executioner and a certain type of hammerhead i might agree though but there are still some differences. I'll check more into the rumors right now and see what similarities you're talking about though.
Yeah i think this is looking a lot more like eldar than guard unless you count auxiliaries to be like ratlings and ogryn. They might be getting a decent assault unit but something tells me except for vespids their initiative is still crap. It's hard to say though so i'll wait for the next codex. I hope they make vespids viable as i prefer them over kroot any day. They just seem cooler and so alien in comparison to most things in 40k. More bug-like rather than humanoid and something about them just seems so cool. I suppose you can go with nids as alien it's just look at how many other races have 2 arms, 2 legs and a gun. Aside from some interesting dark eldar units, daemons and of course nids most things are far too humanoid for my tastes. Also let's hope that we get some nice auxiliary commanders or special heroes.

...let's hope that we get some nice auxiliary commanders or special heroes. Damn right, the stuff Forgeworld have been churning out means that the guys at GW should up their game and create some cool new toys to play with
