I keep being nagged to base my models, I sat down to do some done today but I couldn't decide what colour ground. My technique is classic sand and static grass, I want the GW scorched grass (which i still need to buy) but can't decide the base colour to paint the sand. Just want to run a very quick survey to see what you guys think! Here are my thoughts: Idea 1: Classic brown mud/earth Idea 2: Urban, grey Idea 3: Mixture My paint sheme is as shown below, grey fatigues and green flak. A grey base complements the uniform but might look odd with grass, I don't want a plain urban base though. I'm leaning towards the patches, what do you lot think?

The grey looks awesome, although I don't think you'd need grass with it if you went with that.

I prefer grey bases, and your's look great!
I agree with Dadcro too, no need for grass either.
A few questions that might help when considering bases:
What planet are they from, where do they tend to fight most, what colour are the tables at your most frequent gaming location and what colour works best with your models colour scheme?
PS - great work, keep it up, then come and do all mine please!

Grey and grass makes me think of a warfront across an urban world of cities that were ruined decades ago and are now overgrown with foliage. I think it could work. Especially if you plan to build a table/scenery to go with.

Looks like grey is winning at the moment! The only problem I see with the grey is the fact my armour is green, hence the need for grass to match this. I think there is only one way to find out if it will work- make an example one!

How about some added Dead Grass tufts? The packs from GW are pretty good.

I vote for other, as your current schemes seem to be common, whereas your painting is very uncommonly good. The base should match the quality of the figure, to make that figure stand out.

I'd go for a combination of the two. As has already been stated it givestje impression of an overgrown city that the imperium is reclaiming. It will also allow extra opportunities for basing in the long run

Thanks for everyone who voted and especially all the comments. I'll take on board as much as I can. I still havn't progressed any further with these as I now want to make them more interesting if I can. I will go with the grey trend though but I think I'm going to add grass and hopefully a few other bits too.
