I'm going to use this log to chart progress in a new project I've decided to take on. Without going into too much detail, in the past month I lost my Grandfather, to whom I was very close, to Stomach Cancer after an eight month battle with the disease. It was his wish to remain at the family home, surrounded by his family until the end, and this he was able to do thanks to the amazing supported provided free of charge by Hospicare. This is a local charity in my part of the world which provides dedicated care and support for those who are diagnosed with terminal illnesses, and to their families. In the aftermath of this I've decided I want to raise some money for Hospicare, and as a hobbiest who was inspired by my grandfathers own creative talents there seems a very appropriate way of doing so. To this end I'm going to build a 1500pts plus Imperial Guard army, the Mordian 57th, which will then be sold on ebay with 100% of the final value being donated to Hospicare. I'm hoping to get the army finished within a year, which will mean going some by my standards, so we'll see how it goes. So that all explained, its time to get down to business. I'm in the process of stripping a platoon and a bits worth of Mordians which will form the core of the army, probably with a mounted Veteran Squad or two to fill out the troops, I'm definately including a couple of Leman Russ, one standard pattern, one Executioner, probably a Vendetta and a Helhound and maybe a few more vehicles besides. For now though I've just finished a test model using the fairly standard Mordian scheme which I've settled on, though I have now changed the aquilla to yellow, with a full squad on the way. The other bit I've been doing is this, I want to include one or two Veteran Squads, Mordian 'Ironhearts' with Carapace armour, so the next question, what do you think the scheme should be on these? Should the Greatcoats remain the normal dark blue? I'm looking for input from anyone and everyone though on any improvements, not least because I'm hoping that there might be a few people who may be interested in buying the army once its done.

Mate your a hero!
The ironharts middle looks cool. Why Dobt you have a look at maxmi also, they have a nice carapace body kit. Also keep the colours the same for them as the rest of the army.
Just a thought, why don't you talk to Victoria Lamb (who has modian style models, Espeshaly rough riders) maxmini, wayland games, trolltrader about this thread. Possibly they will donate some bits and models. Then all you have to find is the Mordian's.
Finally, if you have more models than you can handle, please feel free to ask me to help out, either painting, Modling or sculpting.

This is a great cause, I hope people can see it in their hearts to do their bit for this.

Wow, excellent and honourable cause, mate. My grandma has had a couple of episodes with cancer (beat it twice, picked up smoking again at age 80, survived a couple of wars and is a few hours older than the Queen and still going strong), so it's a cause I totally support.
As for the overcoats, depending on what colour you chose for the Carapace armour I think black would be a good choice. Either a dark blue overcoat with black carapace or a black greatcoat with blue or maybe even white carapace.
If I have the money I will definately bid. Even if I don't win I will hopefully raise the price and thus the donation.
Best of luck, mate.

A noble and honorable cause my friend,
As for your veterans I think black carapace, dark blue over coat (darker than the standard infantry) with red or white detailing (the shoulder things).
I wish you the best of luck with this project.
EDIT-You have some amazing painting skills

Having lost a few of my family to cancer (two grandparents and a great aunt) I can sincerely say that I am sorry for your loss and I know how hard it can be, but I'd like to say that you, sir, are amazing. I hope that the ebay auction sells for heaps, which by the pictures you've posted would be worth it for the quality! Good luck!

Good luck with your project and hope you raise plenty for Hospicare!
Your paint scheme is excellent, so for your vets I think you should keep very close. After all, mordian regiments are very uniform, so I don't see why they would be a different colour. That said, being veterans I think the uniform would look worn, maybe a little lighter in parts from wear and tear, with tattered elbows etc.
Once again, good luck. Don't forget to advertise your eBay sell everywhere! Also, have you thought about starting a 'just giving' page so people can sponcer you for actually doing the project? People might want to donate to your efforts who cant afford to actually buy the finished project.

Have you thought of asking members if the can donate parts/bits/modian guard as so? For example when Im finished my army I'd be happy to send you whatever I have that might help you. I bet loads of members on the IGMB might have 1 or 2 mord sitting in a bits box - You put them all together and you might get a squad. Any tank will do ya if people have some they don't need anymore. Also, although your doing modian you could Posinly include other units easier to get... Ratlings, stirm troopers, Ogryns... All of which you could convert. Perhaps a place like wayland games might donate also (send them a email of this link?) or possibly something like Victoria Lamb minatures might donate parts for a penal squad (or pretorian style models she does) to you. The more points the army. The bigger the price tag. The more cash raised!

CG,
if I had any money to spare, I would help you out in a heartbeat. I know how it is to lose someone to cancer. I lost both maternal grandparents to it and know exactly what you went through.
I can only applaud your initiative. If there's anything beyond monetary aid you need, let me know.

This is fantastic! I sent a few messages seeing if anyone might be able to donate models to this and I had this reply from Victoria Lamb: "... I have some new bits coming out very soon that will be suitable for Mordians. (heads and torsos). I would be happy to send you some for this project. Is there anything else in particular from my range that you could use? Hope its going well. Vic."
That's an amazing offer.

Hiya chaps, sorry for my extended absense, just moved house so my painting recently has forcedly had to move up a scale (I have to wonder why GW have yet to cash in on the lucrative market of paint rollers! Tank brushes dont really cut it when decorating!)
Thank you very much for all the support, especially vulpine.
The suugestion of donations has been raised a couple of other places I've created threads, at the moment what I'm short of for the project is Mordian Sergeants to the tune of three or four, otherwise I have the infantry core - once thats painted I'll think more about vehicles, though I already have a donated FW Executioner to add to the list. It's very tempting to say yes to offers of more, but the reality is I'm limited to how much painting I'm likely to be able to achieve, and on this project at least am keen to do it myself, something of a tribute I'm sure you'll understand.
That said if it works out, further projects are quite possibly on the cards.
vulpine, I'll definately drop Vic a line, I'm semi-regularly in toucher with her anyway given our common interest I suppose you could say in Praetorians, I'm aware of her Mordian bits, though I must confess I had'nt thought to raise thisi subject with her, so thank you!
Once I've stopped living from boxes, expect a bit more of an update!
Once again, thank you for the support!
