More washing. Especially if you want it to match up with the wheels Cosmic did for you. If you're unsure of how much you need you can always start at the bottom of the tank. That way you can always cover it up with dirt. Also, when it comes to washes, I always use a darker tone than what I'm painting over. That way you get the shadow and shade effect. That might be your problem in this case. The weathering looks good but the rust is in some pretty weird places IMO. You got it in some places where it wouldn't occur "naturally" and where it would be easy for the crew to prevent it. Then again, rust always shows up where you least expect it.

Not bad for your first go Teku For the rust I would try an do a really fine highlight on the bottom edges of the rust patches, it will make it look like the paint has chipped and then the exposed area has rusted. It will make them much more realistic

Thank guys. I am thinking about trying the delvin mud replacement for a wash instead of the sepia wash I used. Might even try a black wash. Also thinking about taking out the reddish patches I made in the rust didn't come out how I expected it to now that I look at it more. We will see I have 3 more tanks to perfect this so I'm sure one will look right lol.

Hey teku, Nice start to a Russ, I really like the green and the highlights look really good When I did my rust for my Hellhound ( Pictures on page 11 of my thread) I used Boltgun metal over the brown, Highlighted with Mithril silver and then I watered down Snake boot leather. The sephia wash takes me a couple of washes to get the look I want sometimes but if you're looking to use another, personally I would go with Devlin Mud. I hope this helps and look forward to the next update Major Downer

My experience with the newer GW Mud wash (which would be on a similar base tone as yours) is that it does stain the yellow a muddier colour all over, as well as acting as a traditional wash so before using make sure you are okay with that. Check my WIP Russ pictures in my thread compared to the final images and you should see what I mean. The black wash will work really well on the back engine compartment and oily areas but I would advise against an all-over application. Up to you, of course.

I am actually going to redo my 4 tanks. Comparing them to my troops they don't look like they fit in at all. I am going to try and find a more sandy color. On a plus side tho this came. At first I thought it was way to big, but then I figured this thing is supposed to represent a vehicle that is meant to carry 10 troops plus gear into battle. So I guess after all it isn't that over sized Should be a fun kit to put together. This is the command stryker model I am using this as a tester of sorts to see if I want to run these as an actual transport or stick with the chimeras this stryker will have no main gun just the representation of a heavy stubber on the top. It will be used mainly as a mobile command base. If I do infact like the kit once it is fully assembled I will most likely be getting either this same kit and FW chimera autocannon turrets or the tank version of this kit and count it as an autocannon turret. So we will see.

Well, considering the Russ is supposed to have 5 crew (IIRC, with sponsons) all squished in there, that size tank easily looks right for a 12 man Transport and, say, 3 crew, plus transport gear. So while it will be humungous on a gaming table for a Chimera, as a scale and conversion exercise it should fit just fine I think

Looking forward to this teku! I'm slighlty confused as to why your tanks aren't matching your troops, you're using the same type and colour of paint you used on the infantry?

I'd shorten it a bit. Just cut out a section in the back, make it a six-wheeler (which leaves two wheels that you can put on as spares) and cover the gap with plasticard so that you can still use the back doors. That way it won't look as humongous and out of place compared to other vehicles. Personally I'd also actually equip it as a chimera (put a ML equivalent in the remote-controlled weapon station and add a gunner in one of the front hatches) to avoid any WYSIWYG-complaints.* Looking forwards to the result. *Also, I'm rather lazy so if I convert a vehicle I want to be able to use it as something that's in the codex.

@ Cosmic actually I am not I am using Vallejo paints and te Khaki color wasn't as sandy colored as I thought it would be. The tanks are going to be getting a painted up with the americana fawn color I have. egon I would love to do that but I am not that great with plasticard or GS as of yet really have no experience with using it so I might just keep it the way it is. I don't play tournaments just mostly with friends so I should be alright with the oversizedness (Yeah I make up words) of the vehicle. I was thinking of putting a ML on this however it looked rather small on this vehicle I still might work something out with the FW auto cannon turret. I'll have to see once I get it built. Thanks for the ideas tho.

The Chimera looks good but it can be better, If i'm correct, you're trying to go fo a rust/well used sort of look? I water down what used to be called "Snakebite leather" and then wash it over the Chimera, I just descovered this whilst paintinf my HellHound, I thought it looked good. Once it has dryed you can then add battle damage. The Necron face reminds me of the game Army Of Two.... Good work. Major Downer

Alright take two on my tanks. I didn't like how green the first one came out so I tried different colors on one of my other tanks and I like how this came out way way better. Still have to do the misc stuff and treads but as for a paint scheme I like how it turned out. No I do realize I have some mistakes on this tank but I don't really mind that. I'm using this as a learning model, and what I have learned on this will be transferred over onto the other 3 tanks I have left to finish. Also on another note I got some more washes so everyone can be happy my troops will have a wash on them soon enough haha.

The new Russ looks really good. Some dirt and stuff (especially on the lower parts and tracks) and you have a pretty damn good paint job. Just make sure you trim of the mold lines and flash on the next one though. There's quite a lot left on this one.

Thanks for the compliments guys hoping to improve more as I go. Little more progress tonight I got the treads on. Hoping to get the hull mount and sponson guns painted up tomorrow and actually have a finished tank. The I get to replicate this 3 more times. Oh JOY!!! Oh and also I got a little item from Zeke today. So a little information is in order with these. The two non awesome tan painted Tauros vehicles have been sold via Ebay i am just waiting on payment from the buyer. Now the black primered Venator, 1 unassembled Venator, and 2 unassembled Tauros vehicles will be making there way to Cosmic for some more resign magic. Can't wait to have all six of these bad boys on one table at one time.
