Last year I got around to buying my second 40k army, the Grey Knights. However, I have only now begun to finish putting them together, and have already agreed to a game against Tyranids on Friday. My friend has already told me that he knows how to annihilate me, and I have just about no experience against 'nids. Yesterday I got massacred by the bugs with my Guard (first game ever against nids), and I am worried about seeing the Grey Knights suffering a similar fate.
Getting into the Grey Knights, I immediately knew I wanted to go with a Draigowing deathstar. I am fascinated with the idea of a small, elite force especially after playing model heavy armies in 40k and Fantasy.
My list: (2k)
Draigo- ### points
Venerable Dreadnought- (275 pts)
10 Purifiers- 6 Halberds, 2 Incinerators, 2 Daemonhammers, Psybolt Ammo (282 pts)
10 Paladins- Daemonhammer, Brotherhood Banner, Incinerator, Psycannon, Halberds, Apothecary, Psybolt Ammunition (695 pts)
5 Paladins- Daemonhammer, Halberds (275)
Land Raider Redeemer- Psyflame Ammo (260)
Nid List- Used against Guard last time (1.5k)
Trygon
Hive Tyrant
6 Warriors
Venomthrope
30 Gaunts (scythe-arms)
9 Genestealers
9 Genestealers
2 Zoanthropes
2 Lictors
My basic plan against Tyranids goes as follows:
1. Put Draigo + 10 Paladins in the Redeemer. Drive the Redeemer into the enemy, flame them, then assault
2. Assault hordes with Purifiers, using incinerators and purifying flame to decimate the enemy
3. Use the Venerable Dreadnought to smash big bugs
4. Use the 5-man paladin squad to strike juicy targets like Zoanthropes or Lictors
Against the Guard, my enemy burrowed the Trygon and unleashed it along with 9 'stealers into my line. The warriors, Hive Tyrant, and Gaunts charged the gun line, while the Lictors dropped in a spore, and the Lictors and 'stealers came in from behind and attacked.
Are there any surprises I should be aware of? Are there any changes I need to make to my list?
