"“It seems I spoke unclearly, by stranger I meant Walrus since I don’t think he has given us anything but his name. I’m surprised that if you and Paimon think that both he and Dave are guilty that you’d want to lynch Dave. After all without hearing more he is the more useful to us if you are mistaken.”
“I won’t cast a vote yet, not until I hear what he has to say. I didn’t demand your head just because you left your loyalty to the Emperor unspoken, though I would still like to hear you affirm it.”

FKM tries to gather his thoughts.
"Let's think clearly now. If you really are a cultist then wouldn't calling down exterminatus purge the entire populace like chaos wants? Indiscriminate killing sounds like something chaos would love to do. You probably also have a plan for getting out of here and just pretend you're faithful."
FKM sits up.
"However he did say it was a joke but he seems like the bad kind of crazy and he seems to know walrus a little too well. I don't like it. I want him to reveal more information but if it doesn't clear up anything we can always string him up like a pinata."
FKM looks around the room towards paimon and glares.
"I don't remember wearing a name tag today. I'm still watching you. I don't for a second buy that simpleton crap. I bet you're not even who you say you are. I'll let it slide but i'm still watching you."
FKM looks very seriously at paimon staring directly into her eyes.
"Momma always said go with your gut instinct and papa always said don't trust women. I know it's a bit contradictory but that advice has always been good to me."
FKM stands.
"Now if you all don't mind i'd like to take some time to think about these events."

Paimon glares back at FKM, "Listen, FKM, you don't like me, and I don't like you, but if we are going to survive, then we need to be decisive. Quailing will give the cult the cult the loudest voice, with which to guide the rest of us. That is something that I will not do!
"Given random chance our odds of hitting an honest Imperial first are high, especially considering that the cultists probably know each other. We will need voting patterns for analysis. Hesitation wins us nothing. Even if it's for me, you should vote now, there is no reason that you can't change your vote later."
Paimon breaks eye contact with FKM, "That goes for everyone. How people react to being voted for is almost as telling as how they vote. Bickering gets us nowhere."

“But F.K.M is already leaning towards a vote, he’s just waiting for that person to speak up for himself.”
“Would you like to answer my question Paimon? Why choose Dave over Walrus if you think that they are working together why choose the one of the two who has a claim that might be useful?”

Paimon pauses, and considers her words, "Both are at the bottom of more than one list, and to be honest, I would also be fine with a Walrus lynch today, but Dave is on the bottom of my list because he seems just a little more off.
"Similarly, with a vote already on him, I hoped, and hope, that a vote for Dave will build momentum and get a full majority vote, whereas a vote for Walrus would have damaged the the formation of a consensus before it could even begin.
"As for Dave's claim, I think that it's irrelevant. If he truly is who he says he is, then he should have lied about it until he had been able to put his skills to work. That way he could provide some useful guidance rather than just becoming a target. Only a cultist could safely claim what he did today.
"He is either a fool or a cultist, and I am betting on the latter."

"Well paimon, I trust you so much more after that lucid dialogue. She is right you know people. Time only helps the cult!"
Steps even closer to Dave with his hammer at the ready "Let's get this done."
"So that's 2 votes for Dave...anyone else?"
Whispering to Dave sarcastically "goodbye cultist."

'It would appear this day of discussing possible guilty parties has been wasted! We are out of time and Night has quickly closed in. No one dies this day from Mob Justice. May the Emperor watch over your souls and guard you in your sleep. May we each see each other in the next morning. Pray hard my friends! Protect thyself! I have several tailsmens blessed by the Saints for 50 credits apiece.'
'Yes I know, before the Chaos cult threat they were only 5, but we need the extra money in the coffers to pay Imperial tithes. Plus I want a knew heater. So buy five and you'll be protected!'
With that Badicus showed them all out and each person went home. There was to be no lynching this day and each knew the night would be bloody. No one knew if they were next or not and the tension quickly developed. Now they were by themselves and left to be preyed upon by the Chaos Gods' dark minions. Who knew what the Night had in store for Aspecious?

The night was cold and the clouds began to swarm over. It became darker then anyone could ever recall and then the laughter started. The people of Aspecious stayed in their homes, locked in prayers or shivering in fear, hoping that they would be missed by the great evil that lurked within their fair settlement. The wind swept up and suddenly the power gave out all over Aspecious. The whole settlement was swallowed whole by the darkness and nothing could no longer be seen.
Things did happen this Night. Some broke the rules that were laid out by those loyal to the Emperor and death was brought as a gift to a few unknowing victims. How they died was different each time, but it was clear they were killed and died a horrible death. Three bodies were found devoid of life the next morning and with little clues to as who committed the crimes. However, not all was loss. It appeared the Emperor was with them and two of the deaths was a wanted death.
Only 5 of them stood in the chapel and they were all shocked at the news.

FKM walks around a bit shaken.
"Well i knew there was something wrong about paimon but i never would have guessed she was a daemonhost. Sweet Emperor...."
FKM breathes hard at the news.
"Well at least we're still alive and the forces of good seem to have come out ahead. Still i never imagined last night would be such a bloody one. I guess the only thing we can do is figure out what transpired last night and who was killed by who."

Wraelis walks in taking a look at the remaining people. "Rook seemed like a bit of a maniac, but Paimon was a daemon host? That one really gets me, I think we're up against more than we thought," Wraelis says as he leans back into one of the church pews. "That being said, she is a dead daemonhost and rook is a dead cultist as well. Dave though... they got him. Emperor rest his soul," Wraelis says, making the sign of the Aquila across his chest.

FKM speaks a bit clearer.
"Well if i can remember they both wanted to kill dave anyway. Looks like they got their wish but it cost them their own lives. They made a deal with the chaos gods and lost it seems. Not to sound harsh but at least the psychos are out of our midst. That makes me a good deal more comfortable. I'd rather some crazy not try bashing our brains in or threatening exterminatus on all of us."
FKM brightens up a bit.
"But see i told you paimon was acting too dumb. I knew she was smarter than she let on. Better now that she's dead and out of the equation. Hopefully the chaos filth will be squirming around if she was at their head. They'll probably be much sloppier now."

"Hmph, I should have warned him to be more closed, foolish me" Walrus muttered. "I feel partially responsible for his death for it, but his sacrifice was not in vain. He is with the Emperor now. Ambulare eius tectis in pax, Amicus"
Walrus paced in circles. "This leaves us with a dilemma, does it not? How did the two scum die? I accept the Emperor's intervention is at hand, but in my experience He helps those who help themselves. Therefore, a member of this group did it. As we are still here, it is probable there is at least one more heretic in our midst. Statistically there would be two, assuming fully half of us were loyal at the start. I would hope, however, more of the population stayed true to Him on Terra. I assume then, there is only one more amongst us." Walrus paused for dramatic effect.
"There are 5 of us left. I assume at least two are more than they seem in a good way, accounting for the two deaths of the scum, as it's unlikely a single person could take them both down in a single night." Walrus looked around at each of the members of the room. "No offense meant to those hidden agents, of course. I can give absolute proof of my Imperial intentions later if necessary, but now I have a proposition to make."
Walrus stared into the eyes remaining members of the room, one at a time. "We have the chance to end this tonight. I call for offerings of proof of your loyalty, be it a badge of office, tattoo's, or anything else that will cleanse you in the eyes of the others. Now I am aware some of you may not be willing to reveal yourselves for purpose of personal security in the future, if enough of us present proof it will leave the heretic/s exposed. If enough of us expose ourselves, the heretics amongst us will have to make a choice of who to target, leaving the rest of us to offer them salvation at the Emperor's feet. It is a risk I am willing to take, to purge my home of this menace. So come! No true servant of the Emperor has anything to hide!"

Soap pulls a chain from around his neck and gives it a sharpe tug, revealing his identity tags. "I hope this is enough to prove to you that I'm one of the emporers followers".
Looking at the others, "yesterday we all give lists of people we trust. As a friend of daves, you are now the only person here I feel can truly trust". Putting out his hand soap added, "I'm sorry my trust has came at such a price Walrus".

empty let out a sigh.
“But for the grace of the Emperor I went against Dave yesterday. You too F.K.M. I guess there was still some doubt and the cultists were not as clever as they thought. Clever enough though that there is at least one left.”
He looked down at himself.
“I’m a merchant who has been forced to flee from his marketplace and I dare not return, I have few things that would convince you who I am. Give me a little while to think what I could do to prove myself that wouldn’t give the cultists to much.”

Soap looked at FKM, then at emptiehat, then back at FKM. "So, if they is anyone to blame here, it's one of you two!"
His eyes danced between the two new suspects. He brought his las rifle up from his side. "Walrus, looks like we may have a lead on finding Daves killer, and that you will be able to avenge his death before sun down..."
Still struggling to put weight on his injured leg, he brought the rifle to aim. "Come on then, which one of you two - if any are innocent?"

"Stay calm, Soap. We may have a lead, but bein' hasty and wavin' weapons around does nothin' except inflame the situation. Lower the flashlight, lad."
Waving his hand toward Soap's rifle, Walrus sized up the remaining three people in the room. His gaze was intense as he looked the trio up and down, as if looking into their very souls.
"Okay," Walrus said after a few minutes of deliberation, "this is the way I see it. Soap has Imperial Insignia on his personal effects. In my personal experiences with cultists in hidin' they can't stand His symbols near their impure flesh. In my mind, Soap is my right hand man. That leaves the three of you." "FKM!" Walrus exclaimed as he extended an open hand towards him, fingers first. "FKM was vocally suspicious of Paimon, meanin' he is either a very clever heretic, or a genuine Imperial. FKM claims to be spacer born 'n bred, and claims to have the data from the ship t' prove it. But I just can't shake this darn feelin' there isn't somethin' straight with him." Walrus' southern drawl started getting stronger as he put his thoughts straight into words. "Empty 'n Wraelis are harder to pin. Empty claims to be a simple merchant, but is either stalling for time or has somethin' to hide from the darker person in the room. Wraelis claims to be a straight out merc, 'n it rings true in my mind"
Walrus shook his head. "Garn dangit, I'm too tired for this crap. I assume I have Soap's backin' on any decisions I make, so I need proof of loyalties from everyone here, or another will die in the night. All I need is one Honest-to-Throne Imperial servant and we can eliminate the blasphemy from this place!"

FKM looks at soap seriously.
"Don't be accusing us son. Emptyhat and myself were both unsure of who to vote for and paimon seemed pretty guilty to me. Sure i was wrong about rook but we're all unsure of things here. I know walrus claims to be buds of dave but you never know how well they knew each other. Is it possible he's using the best friends talk to remove any seeming guilt? Even best friends might not share some secrets....even darker ones. I just think we shouldn't trust anybody too hard."
FKM looks at walrus.
"If you want proof look into my ship. I know i probably shouldn't hide anything so i'll tell you this a bit grudgingly as it doesn't really matter anymore and trust is a big issue. You see while i do transport goods my ship also has a few secret compartments for storing 'special' goods. Usually just narcotics and that sort of thing."
FKM notices some staring at him.
"What?! You can't tell me merchants like emptyhat don't do the same. I bet emptyhat has his own supply. Times are tough. I just transport what i'm given. Nothing too bad of course. It's just narcotics. I may have weapons on the ship but i think they were confiscated when the ship was locked down. So all i have left are drugs in secret compartments. I can show you if you want but i don't know what you can do with it."
FKM talks clearer.
"Anyway if you want to know who i am i do have an ID tag for myself and for the ship i work on. If that's not enough i can access the ship and its database for you. If there's anything else i can do i'll do it. Just let me know."
FKM looks at the crowd.
"As far as other things go i should like to check out some of our friends here. I'm willing to bet some wounds may be revealing as to who is on our side."

"Wounds? You want to see wounds?" Soap pulls his trouser leg up over his bandage, and slowly begins to remove it. As more and more bandage is removed, a blood stain starts to show. Eventually, the bandage comes free from his leg with a gentle tug, revealing a deep gash that was partially healed from sever heat.
"This, FKM, is what a leg wound looks like when a cultist fires a las rifle at you. Hmm, it doesn't look as bad as I expected, still damn painful though".
Soap examined his own wound for a minute, making sure the bleeding had defiantly stopped, and they was no sign of infection.
"That ok ith YOU? Eh FKM? Everything fine there? Cos I'm getting slightly irritated at you casting doubt over me all the time!! Anyone got a spare bandage?".

FKM looks at walrus.
"And what vote would that be? I myself am finding your situation a little too convenient. You see if i am a smart cultist as you said wouldn't i not kill dave during the night when everybody was voting for him during the day. Now both paimon and rook were voting him out during the day and killing him during the night would not be very smart if he could be killed the very next day. However you on the other hand as his bestest buddy has everything to benefit from his death. Who would suspect a loyalist that just died has a best buddy that's chaos. Then to top it off you cast the blame on somebody else. You just gained soap's loyalty without a hitch. There's a chance it was somebody else trying to pin it on me or poor emptyhat but who would do that?"
FKM sighs.
"But maybe i'm just overthinking things."

"Well FKM" Soap said with a touch of confidence. "Walrus has the most credible story, and I think you could find holes in what everyone says. Im sticking with him. I trust him more than I trust you at this point in time".
Soap tapped Walrus on the shoulder. "Iv got your back, who else do we trust then?"

empty looked over at Soap with a glare.
“You seem pretty eager to hang anyone Soap. I’m a bit suspicious about that. Walrus I think you’d better pick your target soon since we can’t rely on any secret allies to save us. If you are right Walrus there should be only one or two cultists left, probably one. In that case I have to say I’m a lot more suspicious of a man like Soap who will back hanging anyone and a little suspicious of you stepping in to lead a vote. We haven’t heard from Wraelis yet today but I think F.K.M is the least suspicious person here.”
emptyhat fished around in his coat and found a few sheets of paper, the paper was of a high quality and stamped at the top with the imperial seal along with prayers appropriate to merchants in the service of the Emperor. He began making notes.
“During the night only one of ours was killed, Dave, an arbites, a protector. My guess is that he accounted for Rook at the cost of his own life. I’ve no explanation for the death of the deamonhost, I’m sure that something like that would be beyond the power of an arbiter, which is why I think that he and Rook confronted one another. Maybe Paimon destroyed herself or maybe we have some kind of angel watching over us. But I think that what remains of the cult is running scared now. If there are two then we are in trouble, they need only trick one of us into voting for them to win. If there is just one then he needs make sure he is backing a vote rather than the target of one.”

"Makes sense, Emptyhat. The remaining cultist would probably not want to draw too much attention, but would still be trying to get us to lynch an innocent today," Wrealis says.
"Thinking about who were heretics so far though, I'm a little suspicious of anyone who was openly working with rook or paimon at all before. It's hard to say whether or not they were supporting a fellow cultist, or were simply doing what they thought was right. As far as the people I trust most go, it's hard to have a most trustworthy, but I'd put FKM and Soap at the top. You're a close second empty, it's walrus I really don't have figured out too much that I'm suspicious of."

FKM stands up.
"I know we should probably take more time for a vote but the day is going by fast and indecision means that we'll go another day with no choices and at the mercy of chaos. We could get lucky like last night and the forces of good may win but they might not this night. Go and do what you want but don't let chaos win."
