Well, I've been wanting to start an Ork army for a while now, but due to lack of money I've been unable to. Now that I can start (at least slowly) building it up, I've realised that I'll need to ask the more experienced painters something: Which paints do I use? I've painted one of my friend's orks and used his Orkhide Shade, my Knarloc Green and something else, but I don't know which paints out of the new range to use for Ork flesh.
On the same note, I wasn't too happy with the leather that I did (only paint I had was calthan brown, nothing to highlight with or anything so it looked really bland) so I'll need to know which of the new paints to use for leather as well.

Hey,
So for your hide question, I found giving it a basecoat of Caliban Green, then paint a layer of snot green, making sure not to get it in the crevices of the muscle.
For the leather, I do a basecoat of black, then a layer of Balor Brown, then a wash or two of Nuln Oil. At least thats what I did for my orks, and I like the way they turned out.

Funnily enough, Caliban Green and Warpstone Green (Snot Green equivalent according to the chart) were the two I was thinking of using. Do you use anything else to highlight the skin?

Yea I had to look up the new colors on the conversion chart (I'm used to orkhide flesh, snot green, and snakebite leather).
For highlights I would try a 1:1 skull white (or whatever the equivalent mixture is) and snot green mixture.

I find white makes the green too 'acidic' (garish) and would sggesting using the equivalent of Bleached Bone (Ushabti Bone TM) or Kommando Khaki (Karak Stone TM). If you use these added to your cloth highlights too it'll help tie the model together Now get painting! >lashes the painting whip< We will cast our experienced eyes over your feeble attempts (and give you nice feedback )

Alright, I'm getting the new paints tomorrow, and I'll be ordering a box of storm boyz (I just love the model and the fluff) soon, but with school and such to keep me busy I don't know if I'll be able to paint them until next weekend. I'll do my best, though!
EDIT: Stormboyz are flyin' in! And it's ANZAC day on wednesday, so I might be able to paint at least one then if they get here before then. I'm assuming that Stormboyz, being fast, would be Evil Sunz / Speed Freeks? Or does it not matter how I paint them?

Personal choice, Speed Freeks usually go for things with wheels on

The different clans have different reasons for stormboys so can be justified for pretty much any colour. My Stormboys are quite colourful, with reds, yellows and oranges (I have my own Klan 'Duffz' which use Orange as their colour). I'm speed painting a load (75+) of orks at the moment and have discovered that the GW large drybrush is a good investment. I do a base coat of dark brown, give that a wash of black and thats most the hard work done. Then I do silver drybrush with a smaller drybrush (normally an older worn out brush that I've cut down to be about 1mm in length), then do bright green and give that a dark green / brown wash. (the old devlan mud is good, but I find that if I'm doing all this at the same time the pot I used to wash my brushes out is pretty much perfect colour for this final wash!). On top of this I then maybe pick out the teeth in a light brown and then give a wash... I'll post a pic when I've got one finished. Personal taste really dictates here, as the Orks have loads of detail and are also great for adding little details, icons, glyphs and symbols to the back plates etc. Some orks like bright colours, some like dark muddy gritty styles. Checkered flag patterns also work well. and for motivation, listen to any of the Dawn of War quotes.. I personally love the "I'm Dead 'Ard n Stompy" dreadnought quote. Good luck with the Stromboys.. look forward to seeing them! ---EDIT--- Here is a pic of one of my Orks WIP... note that I am not covering all the flesh ewith green but sort of heavily dry brushing over the muscles and leaving the deeper recesses dark... I am yet to do the fianl wash on the flesh, but this should give you an idea. I don't think the light was goods enough to show the effectiveness the black on dark brown wash was.. but does illustrate that maybe I used to dark a wash since it doesn't show up in poor lighting! (oh well.. its not like I did loads.. oh.. yes I did!). Here's a better example from my second batch:

The Stormboyz finally arrived this morning (I normally get my orders from this site within 2-3 days, not 2 weeks! ._.) and have been assembled. I was amazed at the level of detail on them as well as the very versatile pieces. I'm a bit nervous that I won't be able to do them justice, but I'll damn well try! I'll post pictures if I can find my camera.
