Deployment was Pitched Battle and mission was Seize ground... 4 objectives.. Placed Center and left flank.. 12" apart..

I lost the role off, and got told to go first.

I deploy nothing..

Opponent deploys: 2 x Dreads (Center) and a whirlwind (Left flank)

Turn 1

IG: Crickets...

SM: Both Tac Marine (w/ Vulcan) drops down center of the board towards my deployment zone, both scatter 3 / 5 inches closer to my table edge.
Whirlwind and Dreads shuffle closer to support the Tac Marines who has combat squaded (Sgt/Melta).

Turn 2

IG: Reserves see that everything except CCS and 1 x Melta veterans come on.. Vendettas outflank.
I roll on my tanks and infantry on both flanks (Manticore and Lemans on the right flank out of range of anything short of the deep striking Speeders.

Shooting, 2 x combat squads go down to Battle cannons, multi laser, lasguns and plasmaguns.. A third falls back thanks to Weaken resolve and some casualites caused by the large blasts from the Lemans. (Will be within 6" of 1 of my units next turn)
Whirlwind gets weapon destroyed and immobilised, a dread gets its arms blown off, all from Vendetta shooting...
Both droppods are shaken/stunned..

SM: Extends his hand and say, well we can both see where this is going.. Starts to pack up his army..

My fastest 40K game in 5th edition..

This time the BatRep was shorter.. Nicer to read, worse to play..

Well yes it was a bit one sided, since i didn't loose any models, but I would say that he did half the work for me by deploying as agressivly as he did, and since we played a objectives based game, throwing his only scoring units 12" from my board edge away from objectives isn't the best move in the world..:/

Ouch! I will say I had a similar game vs Gks one time though.

Man, I wish i could get rolls like that, all my battle cannons and lascannons always seem to bounce off everything ><

I'm intrigued by his list... no flamers when fielding Vulkan?

The combinations of wargear are peculiar too, I can see some of their logic regarding their choices but other areas I'm not too sure.

He took a risk with so few troops units too... clearly it was not their day!

I note you are using Vets with plasma / AC as a gunline-esque unit.. at first this seems odd, but the more I think about it the more I like it (especailly with Deepstrike / Outflank becoming more common).

I noted your combination of flamers with Lascannons in your previous list and had a similar feeling - initially it seemed wrong, but then when I considered what would normally be coming for them it made a lot of sense.

Yeah Tread, i'm doing a bit of soul searching with my army lists at the moment.. Going away from the tried and tested, I feel it makes me a better player.. (Or at least hope:D)

And yes his list seemed a bit strange not having any flamers in it.. But to be fair he only knew i played IG and I only knew he played SM, so he might have thought Bolters would do it.. (they normally kill guardsmen quite well)

While bolters would seemingly do well on paper, I would have thought flamers would be a must have for a Space Marine player against guard. You can mop blobs up with a well placed flamer template and doesn't require any to-hit rolls, while also meaning at that point you will be up in the grill of the IG player which is profitable in most cases also.

It's got to be said, I only collect at the moment, mostly for not having a full army made and painted. So I might be missing something really obvious.

Ohh don't worry Optimat, i am 100% aware of how flamers work.. And yes it would have been "better" against my army, but seening as he never played against this list before, he only knew that i'd be playing IG, he tooled his squads towards anti armor instead of anti infantry..

Which all seems quite logical to me.. Since IG is known for their massed tanks..

It's a shame the game ended the way it did because I would have liked to have seen the list play out rather than white wash. I wonder what he'll bring if you ever play him again. A librarian probably =P

hahaha, I love seeing games like that. "POUND THE ENEMY ON THE HAMMER AND ANVIL!" Yes those games are always short and a little disappointing, but at the same time they are always entertaining.

Sorry, I read somewhere that if you have no models left on the board at the end of a turn you loose. Can someone clarify this?

Hi there Zealot.. No problems at all..

This game was played in 5th edition, no restrictions regarding units on the board, so it was legal at the time.. In 6th edition you are correct that you would need models on the board from the very start..
