Hey, just painted my first ever minature. Always had IG but they were badly painted when i bought them off a friend some 15ish years ago and ive always been awful at anything artistic so i left them. I recently felt like wanting to get back into it and as such wanted better painted models aswell as a hobby.
Back to the posting reason, any tips or suggestions on what im doing wrong? (or right) i should also state i only have a space marine starter paint kit so colour was limited to brown gold white red and blue with dabad black wash and black undercoat which i dont need as i use white spray.
Stripped with nail varnish White spray undercoat Wash Paint with a dab of water and fairy liquid Re-wash Win.
Dont bash me too hard cause im really proud of the produce. Pic to come in a sec.

If thats the first figure you've ever painted I'm impressed. After soaking the figure in nail varnish did you soak in water to get the nail varnish off?

I didnt soak it i dunked an old toothbrush (very stiff) in the varnish then scrubbed away, and yes i rinsed the mini after. Also i didthat day 1 undercoat day 2 and painted day 3. Its the first anything ive painted as i stated im not arty ATALL but i am anal and have attention to detail. Also i looked up a few videos and short beginner guides before starting, i really want to get some orange paint to do my army white/orange and get some devlan mud as people refer to it as talent ina bottle or liquid talent in every guide i read.

What is it with these people who paint their first miniature and it looks epic. That is looking great, it's about the edge of my ability and I've been painting for quite awhile.

Looking good. I only have two things to mention and those are just minor details, over-all work is good:
1: The belt buckle. Since it's the same colour as the belt it looks like it's made of leather, which is weird. I'd paint it the same colour as the cap badge.
2. The boots. Dunno if it's just the picture but it looks like they metal, which also looks weird. Black boots or the same colour you used for the belt would look better.
Keep up the work.

I agree, it's good! If you want to be better, I would suggest adding highlights. They'll brighten up the colours a bit and give more of an illusion of depth to areas such as the skin and cloth. The 'blood' spray on the chainsword could do with darkening a bit (unless you want it to look really fresh!) in which case try mixing red with a tiny bit of brown, and some gloss varnish. This'll give it a nice jammy shine Also, (yep you guessed it...) adding a bit of love to the base will really bring your model to life, and add context and narrative. Cosmic did a 'basing encyclopedia' a bit back, and I think I put some links in to some basing tutorials I did. They're in the 'terrain' sub-board of 'painting & converting' anyway. I hope this helps, and I'm definately not putting you down, it's great! Maybe you should enter our painting competition

Thanks for the quick and nice replies. I didnt even see the belt emblem! My eyesight isnt great The boots are because i dont have any kind of black and no way to make the brown darker. The base i just havent bothered with yet but ive seen ways to do it with glue/sand/paint/wash. And i dont have any varnish yet but im gonna get some soon. Again thanks for the response and tips, i dont mind negative but every forum ive been on for anything... Ever, has trolls
