Here we go again with Cosmic showing off, lol And you're saying there's something wrong with that? Hand painted: Airbrushed (just the green base coat was airbrushed, the rest was done by hand): For large kits an airbrush can be worth it.

how do you make it look airbrushed like that? really thin coats with large brush? For the hand painted tanks I typically use a large brush (tank brush) for the initial base coat, and then work up the color with several thin layers using a smaller brush (base coat brush) until the color is even. For the airbrush, IIRC, it took me three layers to build up the color (with the paint thinned 50-70% with water). The difference being the airbrush did the job much faster. Since I moved I haven't set my airbrush back up, and have been doing my tanks entirely by hand. However for a large kit, like the Baneblade, the airbrush can really save a huge amount of time...

I will have to post up some of mine that are all done by brush once I get them finished, real life just keeps getting in the way.

Not nearly as good as Cosmic's or Trooper's, but you get the main idea. Just thin out your paints and you get a nice thin coat.

Honestly, even with the mud effects I've applied to some of my tanks (I need to go back and do the rest of them at some point), I feel that my tanks are "too clean" looking. I need to go back in and do the chipping effects, but I'm honestly worried that I will screw it up and ruin my vehicles.

Sounds like a good excuse to buy MOAR! Oh, trust me, I've got plenty of tanks in various stages of construction--enough to do a company of Leman Russes when added to my finished tanks, and then some. I've also got enough Basilisk kits to build an artillery company as well...

@trooper: Just do a light drybrush with whatever colour you use as mud on the lower part of the tank and the tracks. It works wonders to make them look like they've actually driven somewhere. The old "tootbrush splatter" trick also works well.

The old "tootbrush splatter" trick also works well. Yeah, I actually have some pieces that I did the toothbrush splatter effect on. I need to go back in and do that, and the baking soda + paint mud effects on my newer pieces...
