Has anyone got some examples of Leman Russ tanks with extra armour they've modeled that I can drool over and decide how to model? At the same time, GW produce a 'Leman Russ Accessories Pack' and a generic 'Tank Accessories Pack'. Has anyone ever ordered either/both of these? The Generic Tank pack has what looks like Track Guards, but I have a nasty feeling they'll only fit the Chimera chassis and not the Leman Russ one. However, the LR Acc. Pack looks to has very little that's not already included in the basic LR kit? A tank bottom, top, turret top, and a few sponsons weapons? With the new (loose term) plastic kit this sprue seems a waste of time. Links below: Leman RussGeneric Tank

The accessory sprue works for both the Chimera and Leman Russ chassis. As far as extra armor goes, it can be done in a variety of ways. Simple spaced plates are probably the easiest, take a look (google image search is your friend here!) at WWII german tank photos to get an idea of what I am talking about. They can be slapped together with minimal skill or effort and still look good. Sandbags were sometimes used on Sherman tanks stacked up covering the entire front of the hull.

I'll go with the sand bag idea personally.

Wait... the new LRBT/Demolisher kits don't come with track guards on the sprues anymore?
Urge. To kill. Rising.

Possible armor:
- Track guards from the accessory sprue (simplest option) - Spare track links on the glacis, turret and hull. (Next simplest option) - Sandbags heaped on the glacis. - Spaced armor made from plasticard or the floors of building kits - or for simplicity just glue it directly to the hull. - Wooden slats made from plasticard or balsa. - Zimmerit paste (smear greenstuff on the hull). - Cover the hatches and engine area with chicken wire.
All four of the latter are designed to prevent magnetic mines and demo charges from being placed. The first three provide an extra layer of armor.
