So... Sentinals... Whats the deal? No one uses them yet they look awsome, come in the battlebox thing and are half the £ of tanks... I dont really know their stats cause they aint in my codex but are they THAT bad?

I use one. I use it in low point games (500-1000) for some tankbusting. A regular scout sentinel with the ac upgrade to get some flank shots on enemy transports and the like, and if i see a squad that can't hurt it in close combat, i'll just lock them in Worst thing that can happen is the sergeant has some hidden tank busting grenade. If it's a melta bomb that's actually ok, as there is a 50% chance the sentinel will blow up if destroyed and take some with (+1 for open topped and +1 for melta on the vehicle damage chart so 6 is 6 and 5 and 4 become a six ) I think the reason you don't see them around a lot (although if you look in the army list tread, they are used!) is because of our other competitive fast attack choices like valks and vendetta's. I don't use any of that flying crap so that leaves me room for a hellhound and a sentinel if i wish. ( if my new hellhound arrives that is ) They can also be used as an alpha strike squadron like others on the forum have suggested. Put three in a squadron and give them h-k's for a first turn rip at a vehicle. But this is expensive, so less used. So long story short, they are cool, but are a little bit pushed away by other fast attack choices in my opinion. Btw wich codex do you use that doesn't contain sentinels

I often use all 5 of mine. Tho lately it's down to 3, so I can also run a Valk/Vendetta and a HellHound.
Autocannon or Multilasers, Hunter-Killers, Astropath* to get them where they need to go, sorted. Lots of fun shooting up Side Armour and taking out Backfield things like Dev Squads.
I've got two more that I need to get painted up, and then I want to pick up another pair to fill it out to the full 9.
*In my experience, the Astropath is worth it if you have two or more Outflanking Units, or one really big one (El Rahemo). If it's just one Unit of Sentinels or a single Valk, he's too expensive for the boost he provides.

I have five (from 2nd edition, the chunky metal ones). They do compete with other choices, but are excellent in smaller games where their expense, speed and ability to double as dreadnoughts put them in good stead. I like to play "patrol" scenarios with relatively light forces and Sentinels are great for that.

Nice going Westrider! I would get lots more, but i don't have oop cadian torsos to model them all @ Jen: Small games are very enjoying! When you only have a handfull of men (or a few dozen in case of guard ;D ) it makes the game more intense i think, and every loss hurts more. And the sentinel fits in this role very good, as it brings armour to a small game, and is practically made for that setting. Why would they call it a SCOUT sentinel otherwise

Fully agree with you Peter, Small games are most fun with 40k, and sentinels fit those games so well!
I have a full 9 scout sentinels and love the fact that they are high enough to shoot over chimera!
If only they didn't compete with the Airbourne section!
I also a big fan of the fluf which makes me think of the crazy tank commander from Kelly's Heroes.
Every time I field them I am very happy with their performance, sadly this yeay I am only playing orks, so will have to wait til 2013 til I next get to use them.

Well, personally i will never use the valk or vendetta. It just doesn't fit my second edition guard. I don't even want newstyle russes or demolishers. nd no newstyle chimera's if i can help it. It just doesn't fit in the image. Besides, i don't really like the model. I'ce alway been a fan of the agquila from forge world though, with that container he can drop. www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/AQUILA-LANDER.html

Thanks, I was feeling the need to say that as I scrolled down. I use two scouts with autocannons and my armoured sent with a missile launcher and HK (so overpriced) gets a look in every so often. Play a deathworld with thin-ice that sees non-walker vehicles restricted in there movement and then Hoth away.

Correct me if I'm mistaken, but I believe I saw some armored Sentinels used to provide cover saves for infantry squads before the release of 40k 6th edition. Is this still a possible use, or does the LoS-rules make it pointless and counter-productive?
