I'm going to have a go at making ruined buildings from foam board and was hoping someone might be able to point me in the direction of a good tutorial.

Ah ha, were in competition then Im suffering from creative thought so i was considering cutting up the foam into bricks and making various things from there. Its a real drawn out way to do it but i love lego so meh Ofcourse id rather get some good ideas. Oh i bought a neat set of scalples off ebay for something like £3 if you dont have any take a look... Coulda been amazon acually.

I'm thinking foamboard/plastic then taking a mold of it to cast more.

Thats a great idea. Im making larger scale stuff from that crappy packing foam then gonna try a thin layer or filler.

I tried that, it's just too thin and flimsy

I've seen them before MGK and I do like them, I'm looking for something a bit more Gothic with mine though.

Sorry phone went skitz last night so i decided to goto bed So, my issue with the stuff im using is when its sprayed this happens Firsly i used a sharp kitchen knife and a hobby knife to cut the shape i wanted (first go so its not brilliant) Next i mix up some left over filler from decorating, alot thinner than you would use it on walls so it can be spread with a large hobby brush or very small paint brush (that wont be used for anything else) Spread it over so you cant see any foam, in hindsight i wish i used some kind of water paint or food colour or something so the filler wasnt white. Heres what i ended up with, its dry now so i have to sand it with a fine paper then spray it, after that i'll decide how to decorate it... I know i have a spare standard somewhere so il make it an old barracks maybe.

If you put on a coat of PVA first the polystyrene won't dissolve. Now that there's filler on it it should be fine though

Darn, PVA is cheaper! This filler is left overs so im not too mad and hopefully it will make a better looking final project.

Filler for the inside wall seems like a good texture, maybe pva mixed with sand for the ground floor and outer wall and then thin card cut into tiles glued to the first floor and glazed over with a light coat of pva and then you have some classy ruins.

Well as you see its pretty crap, it definatly needs another coat of filler. Il need a better way of applying it too.

I decided to build the initial walls out of lego, I will then take a mold of this so that I can cast it in plaster. I was going to take photos but forgot, and as it stands the entrance wall is under and inch of molding plaster. I do however have photo's of a 2 story wall with a ground floor staircase, unfortunately I dont have enough of the bits I need to do more than 2 walls at a time. More to follow once the plaster sets and I know it worked.

Just taken the main wall out of the plaster and it fell apart, this isn't good. I was hoping to keep things pretty cheap, but it looks like I'm going to have to put my hand in my pocket and buy some silicon. Unless anyone has any other advice!

No it was building plaster. I think it may have been too watery or not left long enough building plaster will not do the trick you need dentist Gipson, that will be strong enough for sure. In the Netherlands there is a company you can order 1KG dentist gipson as a sample free of charge ! Maybe there is something similar in GB
