www.forgeworld.co.uk/dkkcomhq.htmWell it's here. To be honest, the FW Death Korps just don't do it for me. I am a Krieg player and fluff nut myself and something just seems to have gone wrong with the approach Forge World are taking with these guys. To me, the Death Korps of Krieg are hard-as-nails, grim, solemn individuals with a serious self-esteem problem. Their uniforms are gritty and adorned with skulls and chains. They are constantly throwing themselves into battlefields that others wouldn't even go near and dying in horrendous ways to receive the Emperor's forgiveness for their sinister past. The Forge World Krieg troopers themselves have the right look, but their banners and officers are just too sparkly. Okay... admitted, the new banner that comes with the new officer is more on the right track but the one they released not long ago might as well be Cadian! The commander himself, although a brilliant mini in itself, has NOTHING to do with the cruel, hardened, tragic nature of the Death Korps of Krieg. I mean he looks like a Bavarian aristocrat with a gas mask! All I have to say is, you got it wrong Forge World!

When I first see the command squad, I said wooo!!But once I read you Boba, I told myself that you where quite right.... It is true that the officer looks like an aristocrat....not very fluffy in fact....I would have seen a veteran, hardened and so on....

That officer is, in my opinion one of the best models I`ve seen forgeworld make.

But it is still not fluffy. I mean the mini is great but what's the point of a great mini if it is wrong?
There is loads of fluff lying around proving I'm right. The Korps appears in several novels (for example Graham McNeill's Warrior's of Ultramar novel). Also, take a look at Chapter Approved 2003. There is some stuff on the Korps as well, including a passage where it says that they 'adorn their uniforms and weapons with skulls, bones and other such symbols of mortality'. It also says that they are 'grim, solemn individuals'. In the Warriors of Ultramar novel they are totally no-nonsense and their commander Colonel Stagler calls a clean-cut military parade a 'terrible waste of time'. He wears a dark, worn, gritty greatcoat, something the upper-class Forge World twit is miles away from...

While I agree with Boba's Hat, I can't help but think: Syphon wants that greatcoat as a bit. Many bits. Thousands upon thousands of bits.

Hey! I use those models in my Death Korps army and like 'em! It all depends on the way you paint them. I have read the backround on Chapter approved 2003 and I think the FW models do them justice and I am going to continue to use the models, mainly because they are my favourite minatures FW and GW make. I have seen boba's DK commander and I think the "Forge world twit" is as good if not better. Sorry, but that's what I think.

I think the model fits in perfectly with the fluff. Just because they are all about war and redemption doesn`t mean they would want to die in any old thing.

I love this model. I'm going to remove the head and put on a more fitting one for my redcoat themed force. He'll be my general. Also would make a great body for a commisar with a different head. I doubt anyone in their right mind would try to convert such a pricey and awesome model. The squad costs as much as a squad of terminators afterall.

I love the detail on the model, but I would buy it if he was in a more actiony pose. I dunno, a commissar with that much detail, kicking arse all over the battle field, trench coat flying, power sword swinging, pistols blazing!

I would pay to have the officer, I like him the best, but why is it soooo expensive? I mean not everyone who plays this game is a millionaire....

mabus - then you woke up and found yourself in reality...
My thoughts on the DK command squad is this. Taken as a whole and looking just at the model one has to say WOW. Great detail, nice figure too expensive for a 28mm figure. The spartanesque helmet has got to go.
Fluff wise, you would need to do a bit of conversion. Add some tears and battle damage to the great coat, a few skulls, etc... Then a bang up paint scheme.
The models are workable into the DK, but to do it right it would take a bit of work. Question is do you have that time, the money, and energy to do them justice. If so, then the models are more than worth being added into your army.
