Protecting Your Tanks Arse, Viable Idea?

I was sitting at work tinkering with the idea of taking a full 3 squadron of tanks and ways to protect the crappy rear armor. The rules clearly state that vehicles in a squadron can shoot through each other therefore line them up in a row the first two forward facing, your front tank and the third one facing the opposite way reversing after the other two. You lose the heavy bolter but you basically have F 14 S 13 R 14 column, its bound to get you some "really man" looks but what do u think?

Would definitely be entertaining to do. Still just as vulnerable in melee though.

A bit beardy for me but there's nothing wrong rules-wise, as far as I can see. Although now with super-death-ordnance-blasts that you only have to touch to get the full strength, is there a possibility for one hit to take out two - maybe even three vehicles in formation? Granted only the Guard really have the right high-strength ordnance readily available to be able to shoot at tanks. Actually thinking about it I might try it now.

Annihilation Barges and Vindicators seem to be making a comeback. Ork Boomwagons could hurt here too, if they get their shots off.

Rules-wise, it's legit, but does leave some weaknesses.

great idea, especially with Vanilla Russ since the nerf.
How i'd do it : squad of 2 vanilla russes back to back, wrapped with infantry squad.

IS adds cover (arguably) but also helps against that first wave of assaulters, Then leaves your LRBT squad to be F14/S13/R14.

or wrap them with a 20 man blob with ML or AC and you got a very nice shooting Box lol.
