Evenin' All
So, Me and Empty got to have a go with 6th Edition at the Brighton store, once again facing off Ork vs Ork. (this wasn't a bad idea in the end as it probably made the new rule set a bit easier to get to grips with).
It was a 1250 point game and I brought the following:
Ten Strong Nobz Mob with Big Choppaz, Painboy and Waargh banner.
Warboss with Big Choppa and Kombi Skorcha (Waag'un Slagga)
Warboss with Power Klaw and TL Shoota*
*My thoughts were he could sniper, but never happened.. also, it would seem power klaw + furious charge = S10 since the furious effects the models stat, the weapon then multiplies.. not that this made much difference in the game...
Boom Wagon with Reinforced Ram x 3 (!!!)
DakkaJet + Supa Shoota x 2
15 Boyz with Sluggaz + Nob with Bosspole + Big Choppa x 2
Empty brought:
Warboss + Klaw + TL Shoota
Big Mek + Kustom Force Field
7 Nobz + 2 Big Choppaz + Painboy
Battlewagon
Shoota Buggies x 3
20 Slugga Boyz + Nob + 2 Big Shootaz
20 Shoota Boyz + Nob + 2 Big Shootaz
Deff Dread + 4 Klaws
Deff Dread + 2 Skorch 2 Klaws
Killa Kan + Big Shoota x 2 (separate units)
3 Lobbaz + normal crew + ammo runts
Mission was Emperors Will (2 objectives were the Unexploded Bomb and the Crashed Marine Bike in the centre of the table).
Deployment was Dawn of War (12” from centre of table, with the line running across the middle).
Additional Stuff: We placed intact Bunkers on one side of the table and a Anti-Air gun in the middle of the table so Empty would have something to shoot the jets with if he could reach it, plus it was near an objective so made it quite a tasty piece of the table. (We didn't realise that interceptor + skyfire means you can target ground units with out it counting as snap fire, so Empty probably escaped a few more shots – but since the target was invincible it would have made little difference – see turn 3 for details).
Warlord Traits:
Tread gained Move Through Cover for his boss and any unit within 12”
Empty gained a minus 1 to Treads reserves roll... which worked well against his Dakkajets!
Tread Turn 1:
As the Warboss took scope of the lurking shapes of Ol' Empty'Atz Ladz his attention was torn between da big set of gunz in the middle of No Manz Land, and the smouldering wreck that looked like it could be a good Warbike in the right (his) hands.
Spottin' the Lobbaz perched up on the hill he began Shoutin' orders at his ladz to bunker down in the near by fortress til the threat was dealt with, and proceeded to advance upon the tasty dakka.
His Looted Wagonz mostly behaved though one set off into the fray looking to get squishy with its ram, and secured itself in defence of the Warbike (not scoring, but scary none the less).. and the Boyz on the hill settled fer hiding behind the Looted Wagon as best they could (cowards!).
Treadz Boom Wagons didn't manage a great deal, though Gork bless 'em, did take out the Nob from the big slugga mob.
Empty Turn 1:
With a dirty great klanking thump Ol Empty'Atz Dread Mob lurched forward heading straight for Warboss Tread and 'is mate Waag 'un Slagga
...meanwhile 'Ol Empty decided to roll his Battlewagon round the Drop Pod and get a good line up fer rolling over Treadz Boyz..
He watched with amusement as the Deffkopta flew into range and blasted away at the Looted Wagon and smiled as the Shoota Buggies joined in blasting holes and pinging ricochetted bullets everywhere.. irritatingly it withstood the battering so the kans had a go too.. finally whittling the thing down to wreckage.
Treadz Ladz on the hill took a bit of a battering too, as the Lobbaz plunging fire blasted chunks out of them, also scoring a hit or two on the wagon on the hill.
First Blood to Empty!
Tread Turn 2:
Warboss Tread looked at Waaarg'un Slagga n mused fer a moment, well, til Waag'un smacked him about the chops an got 'im to focus on the battle again.. the sight of so much klanking metal and Skorchaz was slightly off puttin'... so he decided to rally the Nobz and lead a glorious retreat into the nearby cover.
Meanwhile 'is Boom Wagons continued to take a toll upon the forces of Ol' Empty'At, and blew out the Battlewagon from under him.. leavin' Empty lookin bemused in a smokin' crater and none to 'appy about it. The Shoota Buggies weren't smiling either as one had been shaken so the whole unit had to stay put while the Driver tried to recover his motor.
The Ladz were not too impressed with the Deffkopta so charged headlong down the hill and takin' no chances got as close as possible before headin' into the fight.. the kopta managed to shoot down one lad on the way but was overwhelmed rapidly by sheer numbers.
No sign of the Dakka Jetz...
Empty Turn 2:
On the Dreaded Flank the Skorchaz were able to torch a couple of Treads Nobz and the Deff Dread immediately followed this success by charging into combat...
Meanwhile Ol Empty'At picked the burnt wreckage out of his teeth and set his sights upon the Ladz who'd taken down the Deffkopta, making a menacing move toward the Bike objective and making sure he was followed by his mob of shoota ladz....
... unfortunatly they got a little distracted and only moved the minimum through cover, their Big Shootas employed along with the Buggies to ping hits off the Boom Wagons and slowly whittle their armour down to bullet dented pock marked plates and rusty holes... not quite enough to kill 'em though.
The Lobbaz were again successful at negating cover and stripped a few more wounds off Treadz Nobz Mob.. softening them up for the thunderous charge of rusting steel...
It was with a glint in his eye that Waag'un Slagga braced himself for the impact of the Deff Dread, he knew his Big Choppa had been sharped till it gleamed that mornin' and he knew 'is Ladz were good at dis sort of fightin'.. taking the initiative they sliced great strips of metal and mechanism from the Dread til the poor pilot was hacked to gory pieces before them, not even able to get a swing in.
Warboss Tread muttered somethin' about his Power Klaw getting' stuck and some Mek being no good at 'is job.. and was generally unhappy about not seeing any action.
Tread Turn 3:
No DakkaJetz... ..grrr muttered Tread.
With the Skorcha Dread now a scrap pile the brave Ladz who'd been checkin' the bunker was secure (an' not hidin' like cowardly grots at all.. naah not at all) ... now decided to advance and 'av a go on the big dakka gunz in front of the Lobbaz...
but found that Lobbaz are really freaking tough with a ruddy good save given by their amour shielding..
Waag'un Slaaga took charge of the Nobz and lead them headlong into a multi assault against the killa kans, feelin' all empowered by the previous fight he was figuring the other Deff Dread wasn't goin' to be much of a threat neither and figured he'd let it charge into the fight later rather than over stretch his Mob.
The Nobz Mob made light work of the Kanz, once again leaving Warboss Tread to mutter about 'is Klaw being no good fer fightin'... and the rest of the Ladz getting ready to reieve the Deff Dread with 4 Klaws.
The Boom Wagonz kept on firin'.. doing minor damage to a couple of grot crew with a near miss, and taking down a few Shoota boyz and the Nobz gathered in around the Drop Pod thwarting the Painboyz best efforts to patch them back together.
The Boyz near he Warbike were getting a little edgy about the Shoota Buggies and crept into the shade of the wrecked wagon an' looking to the skies fer more Lobba rounds.
Empty Turn 3:
Ol' Empty got a wicked grin across his maw as he spied Tread and his Nobz Mob had moved into range of His Ladz...
...musterin' his forces and gathering momentum they charged headlong into the combat, joined by the Deff Dread and assisted by some good shootin from his dakka boyz up by the drop pod.
Since he charged Treads mob first with da big Dred his Nobz mob were free from overwatch fire as they came crashin' in. Not daft dat Ol' Empty thought Waag'un.
Elsewhere the Lobbaz were punishingly accurate and rained death upon the Boyz who had taken control of the Dakka Gunz, reducing them to barely a handful of Ladz... entertainingly, they noticed the Nob had been using another boy as a rain proof shield and clearly the lad had suffered badly from such useage, the missing limbs and head being the biggest clues.
Empty finally got lucky with his reserves, and a whole fresh Mob of slugga ladz came pouring onto the battlefield they could see smoke, explosions, the gory red mist of wanton destruction and couldn't wait to get their teeth into the action.
Meanwhile.. an almighty clash of Ork warriors came about, Big Meks swinging hefty spanners, Painboyz jabbin' dirty lookin' syringes remorselessly int green hides and many Big Choppaz from bothe sides cleaving arms legs and heads from their torso's... an epic fight that saw much bravery and much more use of living green skinned shields, all the Nobz and Both Painboyz were felled, as were the Big Mek and Waaargh Banner Bearer Warboss Tread was taken down in the later stages by the mighty Deff Dread just as he finally managed to turn his Klaw on, but Waag'un Slaaga held on to the end, bitter hatred pouring from his soul as he faced both his arch nemesis's once again in a mighty duel to the end...
Tread Turn 4:
As Warboss Treads eyes slowly closed as the Dread squashed his head into the dirt he could just make out the roaring scream of high velocity engines and managed a final grin before his head was pulped.. his DakkaJets were finally here!!
Above the below of dying Orkz and deafening explosion the terrifying screech of airborne Orkoid could be made out, Hurtling across the battlefield they tore into the massed numbers of the Slugga Mob and reduced them to a single Ork...
...a single insanely brave Ork who would not turn and flee and was clearly motivated by seeing the remnants of Big Mekz and Painboyz still falling from the Deff Dreadz Klaws...
The Boom Wagons got lucky and smashed into the Shoota Buggies, destroying 2 and seriously damaging the third..
While the ladz near to the Dakka Gunz had had far too much fun firing the great cannonz and clambered on for another go, once again pinging shots off the invincible Lobbaz.
A strange voice entered the fray and muttered to the Ork Nob amongst the Lads by the Boom Wagonz...
challenge Ol Empty'At the vcoice said, like some prophet of Gork or maybe the roots of a Wierdboy beginning to sew deep into 'is skull, whichever it was he listed to the prophecy and crashed his ladz into the combat...
... breakin' Waag'un Slaaga out of his duel with Ol Empty allowing him to focus entirely on the Deff Dred. The Challenge went badly for the Nob and was slain rapidly, but not before the damage was done and the Deff Dread had been given a good kickin'... and Now Waag'un had a whole new mob of Boyz to keep throwin' in the way of all the Power Klawz.
Empty Turn 4: Hearing the sound of the Dakka Jets as they began their next approach Empty's remaining Ladz realised that they weren't going to last long... they gave their best but the end was nigh, a concession was reached and a draw was anticipated, yet it turned out the objectives were worth 3 points though neither Tread nor Ol' Empty were alive to count them.
Waag'un Slaaga smirked though, and was happy that he'd live to see another day and set about re-distributing the Big Choppaz and 'Urty Syringes to the Ladz who'd come to his aid. He looked over at the Dakka gunz and could see the fused corpse of a crispy Nob who's held on til the end, and the glint of metal on the Hill that looked like a gang o' grots trying to escape with some Lobbaz.
In recap.. an awesome game!
Challenges allowed Tread an opportunity to win, which was provided by another player in the area.. they seem a little prone to exploitation but can make for cinematic action if your imagination is up for it.
Power Klaws.. are they user Strength including Furious Charge then multiplied... or not?
Wound allocation in a fight between a Deff Dread, 3 Warboss, 1 Big Mek with KFF, 2 Painboys, Lots of Nobz and a mix of wargear made for a really confusing fight, which we just blagged really as speed was of the essence.
Lobbas / Artillery are nigh invincible!
Flyers are very cool!
6th ed rocks!... hope you enjoyed the show!
