Having purchased a big ol' battle force box yesterday, I figured that I would make ALL my soldiers wear carapace, because, well, why not?
Now the trouble is going to be: how do I make my troops wear carapace armour?
The obvious solution is GS the buggers, but how?
Can anybody provide me with a good illustrated guide on how to create the added armoured plates? Also, kneepads and elbow guards would be appreciated too. Thanks guys and girls.

Bobulus:Match point Bobulus! 3ff3ct: Thanks for trying though Adkenpachi: I suppose I could, but I would have to get plasticard imported. Since a certain site that I used to get stuff like plasticard and balsa wood from dropped that kind of thing, I can't get any.

I used sort of the same method as bobulus linked, except that i used the heads with the gogles already on them. saves you a bunch of sculpting work. even without googles it still looks cool (since i ran out of googles heads)

The basics of what I've been told by some members was just GS knee and elbow pads on to them. but in the end I'd say how do you picture your vets?

I don't actually intend to play with any of my models (not anymore, I'll need to learn too many things...I played last at the end of 5th, start of 6th), but I think that the list entry would just be veterans with the carapace armour "doctrine".
Edit: Does anybody happen to have any idea where to get female bits?

Thanks, emptyhat! Damn, now I have to get a job just to pay for all the gear I've been hauling in for this new army. (Paints, models, conversion stuff, casting stuff, bits from all over the web, FW stuff...)

I don't really play either, but that should then mean the look is the most important part! so if you have an idea of how you want them to look will try and help

Just show me some pictures when it's underway with those girl parts, I want to get some for myself but I need the temptation.

They're not that much more expensive than standard plastic guard.

No, I suppose you're right. That said, I bought some stuff to make molds with, so that should also inhibit some costs, too.

I'm probably not going to make carapace armour visible on my troopers. If everybody has it, then it doesn't matter. I tried a test run and, ew, this stuff is horrible.

Syphon don't give up after your first try. First time always sucks, believe me. No one does it good then. It takes practice, practice and practise. If you have some old orks or something try on those first so you don't use up your guardsmen.

You're probably right. It's still hard to work with GS, though. Even after the many times I have used it. Oh well...I did buy some very thin plasticard sheets. 5 of them, A4+ size, 0.25 mms thick. Should be able to do something with that if nothing pans out the way I want it do.

Syphon, have you ever heard of clay shapers? They look like paint brushes with small flexible rubber tips on them. The tips are in various shapes useful in sculpting. They make working with GS much easier.
Hope that helps.

They are more common known as colo(u)r shapers.

Don't they do the same thing as the metal tools I already have?
