Hey guys,
so I switched from my previous project (Modular heightened road) to something else with the Pringles cans, because I could not get the top bits to work.
I have now decided to make two separate terrain pieces, with 3 cans/pillars each. But now I have run into a problem: What do I base them with?
I don't want to resort to rubble only, since I hate the fact that everything in Grimdark is in ruins. I mean, not EVERYTHING is rubble, right?
Making tiled walkways is also tough, since I'd probably end up using cardstock but those start warping and don't even stick to the MDF board with white glue.
Roads? I could paint roads, but I dunno, it feels like these areas are more for walking.
Anybody know?

Do rubble with grass patches.

Hmm...but I doubt hive cities have grass.

If they have fallen in to ruin they might have been over run by wildlife.

As for a walkway, I'd personally go for tiles, or suggest it with plasticard/warhammer movement trays and sand.
Have you thought about decking? There's plastic mesh used for embroidery which is quite cheap, and would very quickly cover a large area. Give it an undercoat and a drybrush and it'd look decent.
Failing that, you could always just sand it, paint it and add little details such as drain covers, litter etc to break it up a bit, like unused land areas in real life.

I don't have B&Q. Also, wouldn't it be too heavy when you're done?

I'll let you know when I finish basing the board I'm doing.

Oh sorry, I use either plasticard scored with a hobby knife and a metal ruler (very important!) or the WFB movement trays. If you want to do broken paving, cut a few out with scissors, cut into pieces and then sick a few bits back in. If you're doing plasticard, draw the lines in pencil first, use a cutting mat, and be careful!

I'm on a bit of a terrain mission at the moment, heres what I'm up to:
1) River sections which make a river of approx 6' (to go diagonally corner to corner of the long edges)... I looked at lino but in the end got some hardboard for a fiver and some paint sample tubs for a quid each.
2) A raised promethium Pipeline in sections which can be replaced with exploded sections and debris for the battlefield (waiting for some more plastruct I beams for the finished version, but might make a temporary version for this weekends game using card)...
3) wrecked tanks using cheap tank models off ebay.
- the idea about the embroidery weave mesh is a great one 3ff3ct, might have to investigate this. I'll post pictures after the weekend.
