I looked at this on my phone first and it just looked white. Good job I looked on the PC after, can't wait to see it in the flesh.

Holy crap, Cosmic! Just as I was able to realize a realistic weathered bronze effect on my statue, you have totally captured marble with your paint job on this one! Excellent work!

I considered asking him to do bronze but there seems to be a lot of them around, marble ones dont pop up as much.

Amazing finish on the marble, Cosmic.
So you said you used oil paints over the varnish..
Is it possible to get a similar effect with acrylics, then just applying a glossy varnish finish to get a marble sheen?

Is it possible to get a similar effect with acrylics, then just applying a glossy varnish finish to get a marble sheen? Thank you, Chem. Hmmm I'm not sure. Oils work very well here because when applied neat, they take ages to dry. You then use white spirit to to thin it down, blend it in and create the marbling effect. You have plenty of time to move the paint around and make sure it's right. Acrylics will dry too quickly I feel and you won't get the smooth marble effect. But I'm not sure, that's what I expect to happen, but I could be wrong! After all, GW have done marble effects with their own paints before.

Well from the pictures it's the veins of marble that really stand out. It'll be interesting to see if that can be achieved with acrylic. Although the veins themselves are always random, it's hard to get a realistic effect like you've done here.

I would definitely love to see a tutorial on how you achieved the marble effect. I mean, if I came into this thread not knowing about the existence of the Honored Imperium set, I would swear that the statue was made from actual marble. I've never messed with oil paints before, and this commission is now tempting me to try my hand with them.

It could be done with acrylic, although it'd be much harder and would probably need a lot of colour mixing/wet blending to be done.

I just picked this up from the post office and if it wasn't for the fact that it weighs next to nothing I'd swear it was an actual marble statue.

Thank you, Teku I did struggle to send it out, I might have to paint another just for me That would be awesome... In fact, if I may plant an idea: Cosmic, why don't you acquire several of them and try different colors of marble in addition to the white with black veins? Red with white or black veins, green with white veins, black with white veins, etc.?

If I was to go ahead I would do black with green/grey veins first, that would look good I think. Cheers, Dave. I am rather proud of this one, it did look better in reality though as per usual!

I can beleive it Cosmic.... I tried snapping some pics of my Nurgle Marines yesterday and they basically looked as if I had dipped them in Camo Green, yet in person everyone who has seen them says they are some of the best Plague Marine style troops they've seen on a table. Camera's have it in for us pal Dave
