I've noticed that the Death Korps of Krieg rulebook gives the Combined Squad rule to Heavy Weapons teams as well as to Infantry units. Does this mean that I could join, for example, a team of 3 Lascannons to a team of 10 infantrymen to improve their survivability?

Yes, it does work that way. Along with the ability to take PowerFists and multiple Standards in Blobs, it's one of my favorite things about the Krieg list.

How do you take multiple Standards in a unit/blob?

In the Krieg List, each Infantry Squad has the option to take one, not just the Command Squads. And the way their worded, they do stack.

ah sorry didnt notice that. but no the heavy weapons can combine a squad BUT only with another heavy weapon squad in that platoon. this is going by the IG codex which only allows infantry squads to do it with others, doesnt say it can join with any unit that has the special rule. also raises the question, where are the other pages of the PDF?!

In the regular IG Dex, no other Squad has that Rule. That wording in the Rule is just a reminder of that.

is the rule now in the 6th edition rule book and states otherwise? the wording could have been "only with units with this rule" the problem with vague is that if it can be aruged it's best to leave it.

If you don't interpret it that way, the Rule doesn't work at all for DKoK HWSs, as they can only Combine with Infantry Squads, but the Infantry Squads can't combine with them.
Letting them mix and match freely is the only way the Rule makes any sense at all in this context.

no like the infantry squads, can have a platoon with a blob of 30 riflemen and a blob of like 9 HWTs don't know why but you could. it's not clear cut is my point. I feel it might be the latter as the DKoK can field a HWT only platoon, where they still have the combine special rule but they can only join units in their own platoon, there's no riflemen. Oh and I've emailed FW to ask about it

I'd also like Forge World to clarify why the CCS and the PCS are the only units in the army that can take Centaur transports, yet orders cannot be issued from them as per the Chimera (unless orders can be issued from an open-topped vehicle, but I've seen nothing to certify this).

Westrider, do you know what I've also only just realised? Every single member of a DKoK Infantry squad has a close combat weapon, so if Laspistols are taken instead of Lasgun, they get 2 base attacks instead of 1!

Wait what? I'm really confused. I'm looking at the rule pdf and it says that "Note that this unit may not be chosen individually only as part of an Heavy Weapons Platoon" So I can't have separate squads, I must have a platoon?
Also am I allowed to use chimeras? Or do I have to put my models in centaurs?

Probably because the PCS and CCS are 5 men right? Not sure about the orders though...

Grenadiers can if you have a 5 man squad but they have to upgrade it as well. and i've just been searching, i can not see a single place it says orders cant be used in it on the DKoK page, it just refers to the codex and rulebooks.
mugshot: heavy weapon platoons need to be as a platoon. you can get heavy weapon squads in the normal platoon as well. and no there's no chimeras with the DKoK.

I hadn't even noticed they had the option to do that! That's got the potential to be pretty awesome. Re: Orders from Centaurs: Can't do it, unfortunately. The general Rules for Orders state that they can't be issued from Vehicles, and the only exception is the Chimera, because it has the Command Vehicle special Rule.

Ah maybe, though would hope that gets changed in the new codex. I havent heard back from FW about the combined squads so pointless asking them. and the orders seem a bit out of whack for the DKoK any way to me other than move move move And i thought all imperial guard had 1 attack + one if they switched to las-pistol. only difference in basic equipment from my codex is they use "Watchmaster" insted of sergeant. they do have the extra WS but still suffer the I3 and S3 profile, but would make a nice blob squad but is 20% more expensive than normal IG I did notice that the Watchmaster has BS4 tho!

Normal IG don't have the option to switch to Laspistols. Only the Command Squads can take Pistol/CCW in the regular Dex. For the DK, it's pretty much everyone.

Q4 - How does the ‘Combined Squads’ rule work with Heavy Weapons Squads? The rule stated in Codex: Imperial Guard specifically says that it only applies to Infantry Squads, should I follow the letter of the rule? Both Infantry Squads and Heavy Weapons Squads taken as part of the same Platoon may be combined in a Death Korps Siege Regiment army, as otherwise described in Codex: Imperial Guard. Note that this Combined Squad may not be later split up, and may only fire at a single target. we have the answer! www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/d/dkkfaq2707.pdfcan't believe i havent seen the FAQ before
