Okay, I dropped the money, the Death Korps of Krieg Models are on their way from the UK. Now, I have a fantastic idea for the base. It's going to be green. (ish) But what color to paint the troops and vehicles themselves?
Now I mention the base will be green (in a manner of speaking) because I don't want the color of the troops to blend into the base. But I don't want them to be opposed to one another. I thought about red, but then I realized I'd have Christmas colors. As season appropriate as that would be, not a choice I would make for a permanent paint scheme.
So any idea's? I'm asking mostly in the form of a brain storm, so disregard fluff, just think of something that would look cool.

Well what sort of green are you thinking? A lush deep forest green? or a more muddy grey-green, an olive green? Perhaps a grass green? Whether the green is more on the warm or cool side of the spectrum will effect what colours should be used to contrast/compliment the base.
I find that picking a terrain you would like them to be in helps to choose a scheme to fit into that terrain.

first of all Mugshot, a very warm welcome on this board as a DKOK general  I don´t know if you have already provided your gene samples, but I am sure someone will take care of it. You must have been thinking of the world you want to locate your troops, with green this will definitely not be Krieg.. I'm curious about the kind of world you want the troops to fight. The complementary color to green is magenta, but they Will be candy bars. left and right of magenta are red and blue. You do not want red, then blue remains on. all the best with your new army, will they be in before christmas ? |

Okay guys, here's my secret plan. I'm going to mount my troops on tops of custom bases I'm making and casting. The bases.....get ready for it.... are going to be a mound of Cadian Guard corpses. Oh yeah, you read right. I'm actually casting, cutting up, posing, gluing, and then casting again the bases. Which upon I will pin the DKoK troops. So the base will be "Cadian Color."
You know, like the Cadians fought and died, then the Kriegers showed up and now their fighting on the corpses of the previous guard unit to go there. I'm kind of nervous about painting blood, I plan to sculpt some entrails coming out of the Cadian's bodies. I don't want it to look too fresh I think.
I'm really thinking kind of a cool-gray is the way to go, but at the same time I don't want it to blend together. I don't know. Now that you know the secret of my army what do you guys say.
They'll be in before Christmas, but I think I'll probably have the first squad done around Christmas-New Years. I'll definitely get some pics up.

That wash Idea is really intriguing. I would order the Siege of Vraks Vol 1-3, but I've used way too much money this past week. On this stuff. I'll have to hold off until next paycheck.

No I'm playing them like a heretic and making it mobile artillery and mechanized fast attack. I don't think the Valkyrie is very Krieg-ish, so I think I'll just keep them grounded. But then again you never know. I might end up ordering some death riders, but looks pretty intimidating to paint. Also, are they any good on the table top? I heard not so much. |

Emperor Damn you! There must be a psyker nearby, because the more I look at the DKoK army with the washes on GW, the more I think it's a great Idea, the more I want the masterclass books and the siege of Vraks books.

the books arent that great, they hve nice bits but over all not worth the money from FW. I've not heard people using the DKoK Deathriders so can't say, they have better stats but more expensive.

Engineers and breacher drills seem pretty popular. I'd also recommend artillery if you want to remain loyal to theme. In terms of colours grey is the good ole failsafe cliche but I remember a creamy kind of bleached bone armour and light bornw fatigues with red insignias looked the mutts nuts.
Damn, all this talk of DKOK is getting my willy hard. Time to go watch table tennis

The first Masterclass book is great. The second is good, although it mostly builds on what's in the first. It should have been 'Masterclass 1.5'
Worth the money in IMO.

indeed worth the money ! The Siege of Vraks books and the Masterclass
I played games with Death riders with good and bad experiences.
1x the charged a squad of Terminators and killed them all !!!
1x the charged a squad of Chaos Terminators with flamers, only one survived the charge....
Death rider I mean ... :-(
Nice thing is also that your opponent most of the time don't now how to deal with them.

I was thinking what if I used like a really light gray instead of skull white. Thoughts? Maybe administratum Grey? Or Celestra Grey? Also, I was weak and flip-flopped again, got the two masterclass volumes, and the three vraks books from forge world. A Krieg army does not invite the budget conscious. It's killing me waiting for my models.

if you want washes go with the white. I think the method they used was to gently spread the wash unlike me who used a brush that bleeds wash  If you use grey it will end up slightly grey rather than using white and then maybe a grey wash... |

I'm not sure what you're saying... You mean they lightly applied and built up the color with coats of wash, not just slopped it on?
I see what you mean about the base coat.
