I was curious, about mods for 40k weapons based on nerf guns, and if there are actual groups (preferably in the springfield Missouri area) that do larps based around the game?

I used to be a LARPer, back in the day...
A word on Nerf guns, after a dreadful failure on a post-apoc LARP I played once. They're all well and good during the daytime... but if you're wearing thick clothing (say, a stout leather jacket, to say nothing of anything representing armor) you can't actually *feel* the impact of the darts, and at night, you can't see 'em, either. The unfortunate result at this failed LARP was a massed battle scene at night where nobody could tell who was being shot and the owner/operator/storyteller guy getting pissed off and shutting the game down.
IF you choose to use Nerf guns... either do everything in the light, or find a way to increase the power so you'll actually feel the impact. That's dangerous, though; it can result in damage to the gun and serious injury to the target. Just be careful, whatever you do.

My reasoning is because of HVZ and doing other things with a nerf group, though Battlefield live seems interesting

If nothing else try paintball. You're not too horribly far from the site of Oklahoma D-Day so if you can swing it, hit that up in June. More real world themed than 40k but I'm you could find someone out there who could make a body kit or something for a Lasgun or Bolter.

Battlefield live weapons are rubbish... I had a go with them at a paintball/airsoft site at lasham a few years back that was using them for kids ... plus for a larp event, they are expensive and they ain't the kind of thing you can just go out and buy and expect them to work with others.. they all need to be connected... The nerf guns sound really fun and is a great idea... but I know the problems with not feeling hits... I'm not gonna say airsoft is a solution cos then everyone would have to wear eye protection... but at least they provide a shot that can be felt. .. but I know in myeexperience that airsoft larp events don't work as they decend into anarchy

Laser tag... the chest plates and focus array's aren't that expensive to buy... or just get the set off the toy r us shelf. No need to worry about feeling the hit...
