Hey guys I decided that i'm gonna change my guard colour scheme for my 6th ed revamp and I decided on a grey colour scheme with skavenblight dirge for armour, codex grey fatigues, with black webbing and grenades. It works well accept I can't get the fatigues to look right, I tried a base of codex grey, badab black wash, then layer of codex grey the contrast between the two layers was too great and it looked unrealistic. I also tried adeptus battle grey base with codex grey as a 2nd layer, it works but it looks a little light and from a distance it's hard to see the definition, if anyone had some ideas for a base coat for codex grey fatigues it would really help to hear them, thanks.

I think you'll have to mix your own paint. Like a bit of codex grey with some abbadon black. Then the wash, then the codex grey.

use eshin grey, its a mix between black and codex grey, they highlight with 1/2 codex and 1/2 eshin, wash, then highlight small areas with fortress grey.

thanks, i'll pick p some eshin grey next time i'm at the LGS. I also tried adeptus battle grey with a watered down black wash as a base coat and that worked well so i'll see what method looks best.

Alternatively you could also use The Fang as a base, which is slightly lighter and bluer. The new paint range is so huge.. Then obviously it would be washed in nuln oil/ badab black and lightly drybrushed with 50% / 50% Russ Grey and The Fang.
