So! with the new Imperial Wall of Martyrs out (might be a bit late) I just had to have it! I had even thought to bring up an idea with my gaming group to possibly play a game only using trenches however that is the inner Krieg in me. I was also wondering what might be the best material to use and measurements and such, any help would be appreciated - Commissar General Dr. Phillips

I bought the set of trenches, they're built, working on the bunker part; they will be used as cover in a appoclypse game next year. This past October we had a Orktober Fest, where all ork players bring all their orks and assault an imperial defensive position backed up by grey knights, needless to say the sea of orks washed over the imperium. Next year I'm thinking of having all my imperials vs all the orks in a day of fun!
If you're asking about how best to make your own trenches, I'd suggest foam, model wood, sand, flock; variety of sizes is best and make them zigzag.

I'm going to be making trenches at some point but as it's almost xmas it's taken a back seat. Need to finish my current table first too.

For trench patterns, look at ww1. That will show advantages between german and british styles, and also how each force constructed them. For example I'm sure the germans had built in walkways, while the britsh didn't, but the britsh offered better protection from artillery, where as the germans became a death trap.
• The above is not accurate but I'm pritty sure its close enough!

I was thinking about going with Insulation Styrofoam and using a Hot Knife to cut it, I might also invest in an Aegis Defense Line to work along with it. Hopefully I stick with this idea because I would love to see it all come out well in the end, maybe I can intermix the Wall of Martyrs and my own homemade trenches ...

I dont think it would be too hard to integrate the two.

The insulation stuff itches, i used package styrofoam stuff and a layer of filler... Though PVA will do apparently, and make sure your hot knife can cut straight!!! I cant figure out the guide on mine so the edges arent perfect.

I still need to get a hot knife but once I do I might post picture progress on it if I can figure out how to do so.

I bought the bunker today. I just had to have it. Even though It would have been wiser not to get it due to monetary constraints, I just...love it!

The wall itself seems so amazing to me, I don't really see the practicality in a game for it but its still amazing, even if it only offers a 4+ cover save.

They definitely help in apoc to, if you have the aquila fortress you can bring in infantry reserves from it as if they were in an under ground bunker! If someone doesnt have the money for the he model, about 20 bucks and a trip to home depot could take care of that. Base: metal shingles, 86 cents per Trench walls: foam board, depending on quality, 8 to 12 bucks, Then throw in some popsicle sticks for wal supports or floor boards, or to make doors and pva glue and dirt, Tada, you got trenches, for cheap! More WW1 looking though Tony A

Here is a trench line I've been working on for my winter board. It is modular and is made up of 12 1' x 1' sections and fills up a 2'x 6' half of a game table. There are approx 1400 sand bags made from clay along the trenchlines. My wife helped me make some of them. Most of the foam cutting was done with a utility knife. I did use a hot wire cutter on the slopes leading up to the first row of sandbags. The open sections behind the front line are for artillery, tanks, command bunkers, bastions, etc# Who knows some day I may make triple section for my Fortress of Redemption. They are made from gellato dishes (green ones), fruit cups (clear ones), and wooden jewelry boxes that are carved to look like pill boxes. P1020240 by Doug Crabb, on Flickr There are 7 turrets - 2 twinlinked lascannon, 2 linked hvy bolters, 2 linked hvy flamers, and one linked autocannon. They will sit on a raised position behind the second row of sand bags. I used the same paint scheme on the battle mat the trench line is sitting on in the first photo above. It is hard to see in this photo due to flash bleed out. P1020246 by Doug Crabb, on Flickr

that trench is pure genious! Thanks, it took me a while to figure it all out on paper before I laid pencil to foam to draw it out then cut and glue, etc. I am in the process of painting it all up right now. Will post photos when able.

PROGRESS UPDATE
Here are some photos I took tonight. Thought you might like to see where I'm at:
Turrets and guns are painted, again the white really isn't so white. Photos were taken under florescent lighting.
A close up of a couple of the gun turrets

I just have to paint the sand bags, wooden planks in the decking, and then add snow. Hope to get it all done this weekend.

It looks great. Almost like Hoth. It needs some more snow effects on the sand bags and bunkers, but very awesome.
How does the Stormlord get out?

Out of curiosity, what did you make the corrugated iron walls out of? They look great!

love all the wood boards and sand bags... just shows how beautiful repetition of a simple design can be!

Loving it mate! Out of curiosity, what did you make the corrugated iron walls out of? They look great! I found it in the scrapbooking section of the local Hobby Lobby, on sale for about $1.50 - $2 per 12x12" sheet if I remember right. In another thread on another site a guy said he found some at a Canadian Dollar store. I did want to put more snow effects in but I didn't want to overdo it or to detract from playabilitiy. I have to admit that Hoth was indeed an inspiration for this project. Thanks for the comments, P.S. The Stormlord goes where ever he wants to go! He just drives up and over and guardsmen better get out of the way.
