Hey guys, it's been a while. I've been thinking about starting a small space marine contigent to ally with my Guard, fluffwise being drawn from the same planet as them (I'm not sure if this is standard fluffwise for a world to supply both Marines and Guard, but I can always say the Guard are volunteer regiments, or something). As it is a Feudal World, I wanted this to be reflected in their chosen style of combat. At first, I thought of standard Blood Angel Assault Marine Troop spam. Then I thought about maybe Grey-Knights-but-not-actually-Grey-Knights, but the psychic powers didn't really fit the bill. So I got to thinking, in fantasy/medieval settings, who are normally the elite troops? Knights. Knights are usually mounted. BIKES! And so, I decided I wanted a Biker-Centric Space Marine army. Captain on Bike, Troop Bikers. BUT, I also want them to be assault-oriented, or at least be capable assault troops (won't expect them to down the swarmlord or anything, but at least not get minced by basic troops). They'd also be there to grab the enemy's backfield objectives (which my typically static gunline guard just don't reach). This is mainly a modelling thing, but I also want to bust them out in games sometimes, if only in fluff games. So, the questions I had for you guys are these: 1) Which codex would best represent a Chapter that was drawn from (and therefore influenced by) a Feudal World? The obvious answer aesthetically is BT, but I mean playstyle wise. 2) Is the Bike concept viable? I'm not looking for tourney-winning amazing points efficiency here, btw. Just...not pointless. I know the points would be better spent on more guard, etc etc. 3) In terms of actually building these guys, I was imagining kitbashing a space marine biker with either Grey Knights (for the more ornate armour and being able to use the many different force weapons as power weapons) or with like, the BT upgrade stuff, alternatively I could get some scibor conversion stuff like www.slavetopainting.co.nz/collections/conversion-pieces_sci-fi-conversion-pieces/products/angels-shoulder-pads-2-8and www.slavetopainting.co.nz/collections/conversion-pieces_sci-fi-conversion-pieces/products/sf-lion-helmets-8Thoughts? Ideas?

Ideas? Hmmmm... Well unless I'm mistaken, you can play a predominantly biker focused force with the standard marine codex. Just take a captain with a bike. You can also give your command squads bikes. If you do this you may take Biker squads as troops choices. I'm not sure what you can do for elites, or heavy supports tho'... I can't answer your second question as the proposed style is the polar opposite of my play style. Unfortunately the proposed kit bashing could only be possible for a sergeant as biker squads can not take power weapons as special weapons... Hope this helps, Hetlan

I have been reading up on Black Templars recently.. their codex has been hit hard by their recent FAQ which makes them a bit tricky to field effectively..
BUT, as allies they do quite well, one of their best options are Bike Marines with Chaplains, with the following a good units too: Terminators, 5 Man Plasma / Lascannon Troops, and Storm Shield Jump Assault Squads - especially the way hit allocation works, a few shields can give a lot of protection.
The reason Templar Bikes are good is that you can get 3 special weapons for the minimum squad size of 3.
Templars also have no sergeants... so the dude with a power weapon cannot challenge or be challenged, but he doesn't have any extra attacks either.
What you cannot do with Black Templar that the Vanilla codex offers is take an entire army on bikes..

the dark angels used to have caliban, which was a very feudal world. and since they are getting a new dex in january they'll be getting lots of goodies. not to mention they have the ravenwing, which in essence is a pure biker+landspeeder list on the other hand, friends don't let friends go crossdressing (i'm a vivid space wolf player!)

Was the ravenwing list able to take troop bikers (via HQ unlock or something a la codex marines), or was it just a name for a particular build (like Nidzilla is just a name for MC-heavy nids.)?

The Ravenwing list was able to take troop bikers thanks to an HQ dude name Sammael, they could also do the Deathwing with terminator troops with the HQ Belial.

the ravenwing was also the only pure bike list that was possible before the marines got their 5th edition codex. with the rumours that i'm seeing now i'm sure a lot of bike lists will swap to the new dark angels codex as soon as it's out

If it's Knights your after then yes, Deathwing from the Dark Angels Codex are your best bet.
If it's feudal, tribal knights your after and intend on using the Space Marine Codex, White Scars could be a viable option.
If it's feudal warriors your after, but not necessarily on bikes, why not try Red Scorpions ? They dislike ( don't trust ) the Imperial Guard but if they are both from the same homeworld ( Zaebus Minoris or something like that ) which is a feral world. Perhaps they'd be more trusting...
In anycase, which ever path you take I like the idea of an elite, Space Marine contingency so good luck and happy hunting
