hello just to check when considering how many wounds a scarab swarm has in its stat line (3 i believe) is this per base? this leads me to my second question does a scarab swarm consist of 1 base or must i have 3? or is this 3 individual swarms that make up a unit so for example in close combat each base of scarabs gets 4 attacks etc?
The battle i had yesterday to learn my necrons i had a unit of 9 scarab bases and they CC'd some terminators. am i correct in think ing that meant the scarabs got 9x4 attacks and every base could have 3 wounds allocated to them before being destroyed?

Yes, you played correctly. Think of it as each base represents many scarabs, because they are too small to be represented by individual bases, and took weak to have a working statline, so they group together to share a statline and base.

Not sure how things work in 6th, as I've yet to play, but don't Scarabs get instant deathed if they get hit by a Termie's power/chainfist? They really should be going after vehicles, though, not infantry. In the closing days of 5th my Scarab swarm amassed a pretty impressive amount of vehicle kills, including an epic Landraider explosion with maximum blast radius roll.

hmmm i personnally have not seen any rules about scarabs and power fists? + don't worry about the vehicles in this particular battle the doomsday ark and ctan had the raiders covered lol the scarabs were essential in slowing down the infantry. they wiped out an assault squad and then kept the termies with assualt cannons and typhon launcher engaged for several turns!

Yup, anything S6+ will instakill those scarabs, as they only be T3. Also, They take Double wounds from all templates (Teardrop, and blasts) so you need to watch out for that, Back when Necrons were old and slow, I took out a huge chunks of scarabs with my Railgun sub munition blast...

The doubling wounds is under the Swarm special rule, Pg 43 BYB, and the instant death is under the Instant Death heading on Pg 16 of the BYB...

ah thanks very much i overlooked that one! it makes perfect sense aswell! would it apply to a space marine captain as an example which has 3 wounds. and is toughness 4, if he was wounded by a strength 8 melee or ranged attack and wounded how would that work?

Yeah, it works on just about everything except things that are stated to be imune to instant death, and things with Eternal Warrior, Pg35 BYB
