Iv desided to make my IG an armoured fist unit. I'm not quite sure how to kit it all out, so this is roughly what I have:
Iv got 8 chimeras. One for HQ, the rest to be used as required. I can't remember what they are all equiped with, but in sure 5 have hull HB and turret HB. The rest have ML turrets with either HF or HB.
Now, would it be worth having a platoon mounted, or have just vet squads? I currently have enought troops to make a full platoon of 50 men, with ML, flames or grenade launcher. I also have two squads that are vets with shot guns. Finally I have verious heavy weapon squads armed with all veriants.
Then for heavy support, I have two standard leman Russ, one demolisher, one punisher, what ever the plasma tank is, one death strike.
Fast attack wise I have 1 hell hound, valk, and a couple of sentinels.
Super heavys three baneblades.
So with that, please give me your advice! What should I add/remove?

"Armoured Fist." Makes me think of old 40k. The Codex where "armoured fist squad" meant guys in a chimera.

I think vet squads would pack more punch pound for pound when mixed with chimeras.

Veterans may pack more of a punch, but platoons can kick out almost twice as many Chimeras for fewer Troops choices.
What I would advise is running a full platoon, mounting the command squad and three Infantry Squads. All of the foot squads sit back with the heavy weapon squads and your company command squad, providing you with a backfield firebase. Then, mount up both your Vets, and if possible add another two Vet squads. Your platoon is there to take and hold objectives, and that it exactly what it is going to do; your Vets are a troubleshooting force there to make sure that your Fists hold their ground. Anything else you bring is there to support the Fists and otherwise help prevent you from losing ground.

That's the sort of advice I was after! Thank ou very much!
Now the next question, what do I add to my guard with my Christmas pennies?

Yea, a solid platoon of 4 chimeras with Autocannons and Plasmaguns are great for a pillbox to defend a position. Tons of firepower coming out of them each turn. I like to mix Platoons with vets honestly, 2 platoons of 3-4 and 3 vet squads with melta work great in combination with each other. Toss in a few Russes for fire support and cover and you got yourself a pretty tough nut.

I would not trust regular Guardsmen with plasma guns, mostly because quadrupling the cost of the man carrying it seems wasteful to me, especially since you can't give them anything to mitigate overheats.

well to be honest i prefer my plasma only on my veterans. but i've never fielded more then 1 chimera so can't really tell what works best

Plasma is best with Vets and meltas with normal squads. 1 vets can get better armour and it uses their better BS skill.

I find Plasma to still be effective enough on regular Guardsmen to be worth it. Best in big Blobs, where you can get the most mileage out of Bring It Down, or Prescience from Allied Psykers, but even when I run a Mech Platoon, it's still Autocannon/Plasma as my default loadout.
Other options may be cheaper and safer, but either from lack of range or hitting power, they just don't get the job done as well.

I think I'll run with one platoon in chimeras with the pcs in 1, three squads with flamers or grenade launchers, and another with a heavy weapons squad for a little extra stopping power. Then three squads of vets in chimeras with meltas, or maybe plasma. I will then have a second platoon on foot, consisting of two squads of troops, and then filled out with verious heavy weapon squads. And the hole lot will be supported by leman Russ tanks!
Does that sound workable?
