Ok I am new to the game of 40K and this is the report from my very first battle. It was only a very small game and to be honest I have probably spent more time explaining the build up the battle as i can be a geek like that. Anyways ...........
A new world had been brought into compliance by the Imperial Fists and with it a new unit of Imperial Guard were raised by an Imperium Commissar. A company of Imperial Fists remained on the world. This, the commissar felt was unnecessary and undermined the hard work had put in to raise its own defence and policing force.
The commissar was personally taking out a platoon on a training exercise while in frosted valley he encountered a Tech Marine testing out a Dreadnaught and Tank in a field exercise. The Commissar immediately demanded thorough fare of the valley. This angered the Tech Marine who clearly felt he had priority as representatives of Astares although the Commissar was quick to remind them that he had been employed to ensure the world is kept in compliance and provides military resource to the Imperium.
Neither side displayed much in the way of manners as they discussed over vox communication. The Commissar was wary that the Marine would not meet him face to face and remained in cover behind the Tank. His company commander instructed him that scout snipers had been spotted in the hills of the valley. This did not ease the commissars concerns and with the feeling that they were not likely to advance any time soon he ordered two lascannons and a mortar to deploy in the hills keeping the Rhino that was covering the Tech Marine in line of sight.
Wary that the snipers were present he ordered his infantry squad to remain in the cover of a cratered area which had obviously been formed by tests involving the Rhino. There was also the cover provided by a small wooded area to keep out of site of the enemy armour and the snipers.
The commissar remained with the company commander and ensured that the Platoon Commander remained close. Both commanders had Plasma Weapons amongst their personal command squads. The Platoon Commander was aware of the situation. He had been given the position of Platoon Commander for his bravery fighting the invading Imperial Fist force before being captured and being brought into compliance. He attempted to provide counsel to the company commander and the Commissar to return and continue the exercise another time.
The Commissar was furious and the insolence shown by the small Space Marine force and did not want to undermine his own position by retreating nor did he want to teach the unit that warring against the fellow imperium is accepted.
But then came reports of movements in the woods covering the infantry, scouts had been reported and also the Tank began to make movements which unnerved the Commissar who had failed to make communication with the force commander back in the city.
Fearing that they were about to be under imminent attack he realised that the only way of surviving the threat would be to take out they armour with the Lascannons. He immediately ordered his heavy bolters to open fire into the hills and eliminate the threat from snipers on the lascannons. In one wave of fire the snipers had been eliminated. At the same time the order was given for the Lascannons to open fire on the tank with the hope that crippling the tank will cause the Tech Marine to back down.
The Lascannons glanced off the armour causing no damage. Then all hell broke loose. The scouts that had infiltrated the trees began a fire fight with the infantry taking cover. The infantry outnumbered the scouts killing them.
The Dreadnaught turned its fire on the Lascannons making very short work in taking them out. The mortar proved a nuisance and killed two if the Tech Marines servitors that were also hidden behind the tank. Before the mortar could cause any damage to the enemy warlord it was too taken out by the dreadnaught’s twin linked weapons.
With the Lascannons eliminated the Commissar was reliant on his two Plasma Gunners to do damage to the enemy armour. The inexperience of the gunners was proven as both guns exploded killing the users in splash of plasma. Desperation kicked in for the commissar the infantry was being pinned down by the tanks weaponry as they struggled to manoeuvre through the terrain.
The Commissar then ordered the command squads to charge at the enemy and assault the vehicles. The charge was wreck less as the tank manoeuvred out of range of their grenades. The Commissar would not allow this to stop him and he continued the charge and he was somewhat protected by his body guards who mindlessly threw themselves into the oncoming fire taking bullets for the Commissar.
The charge was fruitless and as he turned around he realised the company commander was in pieces behind him and all that remained was the platoon commander and his standard bearer charging towards the tank. The commissar turned around to see the shadow of the dreadnaught approaching him and he was soon cut down and killed.
The Platoon Commander knew his infantry squad was following not too far behind him and he knew that it was merely a suicide charge and upon seeing the commissar grounded he ordered the retreat out of range of the enemy weaponry. He and what remained of his squad returned to the city to report what had gone on. The commander felt anger he felt anger at the deceased commissar for his stupidity and stubbornness but also towards the Imperial Fists, bringing back stark memories of the invasion.
