Hi.. I've not posted in Fluff before,
Here's my ideas in draft... not sure if the Home World + Moons is correct and am happy to alter if its felt its a bit too unusual.
The History might be interesting to some of you who've read the bat reps over the last couple of years.
The Home Planet
Kernohan:
A Coastal Planet with many small islands and rough shorelines surrounding it's small continents.
The inland landscape features many hilly woodlands and provides a lush and fertile agri-world for the production of large scale grains, vegetables and livestock. While the large number of seas and oceans provide a wealth of fish, whale, coral and shell species.
The PDF governor's strategy in coalition with the guard draft has been to divide the islands into smaller governing bodies to stimulate warfare and aggressive trade between the island communities, this way it ensures a high level of experienced recruits as well as profitable battle grounds on which to run training operations.
The Planetary tithe for Kernohan is low, and normally manages to present around 100,000 troops each year, and these are usually placed into an existing Kernohan regiment of which there are 87 in total operating at various strengths. Around a quarter of the tithe is collected from the previous years failed Guard recruits which have spent a year in the PDF further honing their skills or being whittled out as experience takes its toll.
The forces of Kernohan are a lightly armoured skirmish or guerilla force when used with their strengths in mind, their experience within the along the coast and in the woodlands of Kernohan provide them with a valuable mobility and makes them excellent forward troops. While the indigenous wildlife of Kernohan may not be particularly threatening the engineered politics of the various governments makes for a constant threat of unexploded mine or claymore tripwire whilst on any manoeuvre, thus creating a highly skilled advance recon and sweeping advance force.
As Kernohan has various high yield seams on the numerous islands which provide rare ores for production Kernohan is fortunate to have a number of Manufactorums on its moons. and while the overall production is very minimal in comparison to larger factorium planets there are numerous advantages which arise.
It is often the location in which a failed or wounded PDF serviceman may find their new career, working in the various tank and munition factories on the many forms of Leman Russ and Chimera chassis variants. This aspect enables the Kernohan a slight edge over other larger Tithe planets in the Sectum as the basic civillian will often have some experience with the mechanics of Chimera, Leman Russ or Vlakyrie (depending on which Moon they worked on).
Of all the Small Manufactoriums on Kernohan the most valuable to the PDF is the Valkyrie and Vendetta production complex, while nearly all of the constructs are assigned to the Navy Tithe, there are a few put into valuable PDF service such as the ISAR (Imperial Search and Rescue) and ITAD (Imperial Transplant and Donations) which both provide for the civilian populace in a way which creates a lot of support for the PDF and Guard as well as valuable training to the civilian forces should the need come to increase the tithe of manpower.
The result of these factors on the Kernohan PDF and Guardsmen is that they are familiar enough with their Airbourne and Armour Support that they are ascribed that they can often affect field repairs whilst in conflict. This extends the expected lifetime of this relatively expensive hardware by about 50 to 75 per cent.
History of the 23rd:
The Kernohan 23rd fought heavily in the Lansonic Campaign, a large lush planet and long time spawn ground for Ork attacks, before having to withdraw completely from the system, this lead to desperate last stand as the 23rd evacuated themselves and the local population.
Kernohan learned urban street fighting the hard way on Caledonia, part of the Londunious Sector, where the attempt to retake the industrial sector of Emporers Cross, which was a vast continent of manufactoriums and storage silos, industrial chimneys and warehouses. The war lasted over a year as the Kernohan advanced with regiments of the Caledonian Airbourne 11th , Caledonian 192nd, the Caledonian 102nd, the Claedonian 47th as well as the Seventh Sister 3rd Armour Division..
This long and grueling conquest was compounded by the enemy's use of narcotic bio-weapons and chemical agents which were released into the air and water supplies and saw heavy casualties dealt to the Caledonian forces. After the conflict, much of the Caledonian force was absorbed into the Kernohans, and the Seventh Sister Srmoured Division still maintains its support.
The Kernohan 23rd fought alongside the Catachan in Hollows Ware Penitentiary Wars and this resulted in the adoption of red head ties to mark the rising of the Kernohan to the mark of Catachan Devil slayer, this was a slow process and took many years of a long campaign, in some cases a Kernohan would be rewarded with a red tie for taking down enemy armour, other times it was for successful subterfuge or trap finding and yet other cases it was given to snipers for their marksmanship against enemy command figures.
The most notable occasion in which there was a recognition by the Catachan was in the close quarter fighting that occurred deep within the Penitentiary when all ammo reserves had become depleted and the Kernohan were forced to rely on pure hand to hand prowess and their stubborn resistance to fall back.
A unit of deep cover agents provided pivotal intelligence yet needed priority extraction, and thus far still serve the Kerohan as infiltrators and masters of industrial subterfuge.
During a short campaign in Mannarrows the Kernohan were greatly reduced in number as they tried desperately to hold a derelict orbital network from its own warp tainted servitor crews, the conflict was tough and and much of the network was driven from orbit into numerous hives on the planet below costing the Imprium highly in losses to production and of vital war material.
The Kernohan force were sent to the outskirts of the Region and spent time running patrols across a number of distant rimworlds, widely spread they were a high risk of attack yet through luck the attacks never came. The vast fleet of the Xenos passed through the region whilst still within the empyream, only a few Ork Roks and Battle Cruisers giving any evidence of what was to come.
As the Xenos attacks began deeper within the Region the Kernohan were called back from their spread patrols, and then re-engaged the same Ork Warband on the planet Queensark Gamma in the Brightonius Sector where it was believed the Ork forces had assembled a massive Gargant construction tower. The mission detail was simple; to clear and secure an airfield for Imperial landers and then after orbital bombardment of the local area to strike hard into the ore production areas which were feeding the construction site, before following on to the site itself.
The Kernohan campaign vs the Ork has become much more interesting as Rut-Kin and the Eldar of **** craftworld and the Adeptus Spiriti Macharia Mechanicus have become involved in the planets unfolding events. The Rut-Kin seem to be a localised Xenos which have huge underground networks from which they mount hit and run attacks. The Eldar are also present, occasionally a WayGate is discovered and evidence of battle between Xenos and Xenos is common. This attacks seem to mainly between Ork and Rut-Kin for control of the Ore Mines, yet the Eldar seem to be taking advantage of scenic features for ambush and conflicts of opportunity. There also appear to be conflict between Eldar factions, possibly evidence of Corsiar and Craftworld clashes.
The Kernohan received a great number of reinforcements over this phase as they struggled to make gains in the Ork held terrritory. Thankfully all conflicts against the other Xenos were successful; fighting back Eldar raids and numerous Rut-Kin attacks. During this campaign which continued across several planets in the Brightonius sector, featuring numerous assaults on the Gargant Construction Tower located at 1313 Lewsoad before advancing to the Manufactoriums and Refineries of Norive1616. Here the Kernohan, along with specialist units from have fought many battels for control of the Ore Refineries and vital transport links that run across this area.
The Marines from the White Templar Chapter have lent their support to some of the larger conflicts, though seem more focussed on activities elsewhere.
