I'm on to the marines from Reds (via Foster) and these are the first two: I've also started work on my Titan so I get a rest from the 54 Power armoured dudes I have committed myself to painting. Pictures will arise when there's anything decent to see Attachments:

Here's the Laities, they're made up of legion warriors who have only recently made the step up to full Astartes, having undergone horrific and agonising surgeries and ordeals to prove themselves worthy of Lorgars' geneseed. They are clad in ancient armour, some as old as the Great crusade and the Heresy, but untouched by the warp. Although they will have already taken hundreds of lives in their trials to become a Word Bearer, the Laities are not blessed with the true blessings and touch of the warp until they have won victory in Lorgars name against a hated foe. With their jump packs and the close range weaponry they carry, Laities fill a similar role to Raptors utilised by other legions and warbands, often striking at the weakest part of an enemy's line and forcing a path for their foot bound brethren to follow. They carry out their role with dark joy, the Vox amplifiers on their helms constantly blurting out the words of Lorgar as they cut down the enemy, for it is the sacred duty of the Laities to bring the true word to all corners of the battlefield. Whilst they are excellent shock troops, they are also formed into small, specialised units tasked with the destruction of a particular target. These 'choirs' excel at falling from the sky, swooping down upon enemy commanders, powerful vehicles or elite units on route to battle and eliminating whatever the target. As the dark hymnals blaring from their Vox units strike fear into their targets, the whirring blades and barking pistols of the Laities dedicate more souls to Blessed Lorgar. Attachments:

The slimline mark IV jump packs, armour and those bizarre helmets will really make them stand out.

Thanks Chem, that's what I'm going for, something with a word bearer twist that stands out. I thought to cheer myself up after my seizure this morning I'd set up my army and do a group shot: Attachments:

"Contact, on the edge of the system, just emerged from the warp" the young officer shouted accross the bridge of the imperial cruiser 'Watchful Intent'. "Bring up the ident on the long range proves lieutenant, no need to panic. It's probably just an unscheduled supply run again." Captain Agraxus reassured his junior officer. "Aye Sir" The bridge hummed with activity for a minute or two whilst the information bounced off the probes at the edge of the system and back to the cruiser. The captain sat in his command throne as information scrolled across the small screen in front of him. >> FOUR VESSELS >> ONE CAPITAL, THREE ESCORT >> CORRECTION, SIX ESCORT >> IDENTIFYING CLASS >REQUESTING >REQUESTING >REQUESTING >REQUESTING >> NO RESPONSE >>IDENTIFICATION VIA RECORDS? >> PROCEEDING > > > > >>INFORMATION >> POSITIVE IDENT THROUGH IMPERIAL DATABASE > > >>CLASS: DESOLATOR >>DESIGNATION: CARDINAL OF SIN The captains blood ran cold. He knew what the lieutenant was going to say before he said it. "Sir! Ident confirmed. It's the Word Bearers. Sir, they're back." "How Long?" "Sir, they're already here" Attachments:

Thanks chem. Just doing a bit of both as I can. My Word Bearers will always have my heart though. Having to rebuild them from the ground up.
Here's some fluff for him:
Lord Khealor, The Shade of Sicarus
Born as Khere Arel on Colchis during the Great Crusade, Khealor was chosen to become one of the Astartes of the seventeenth legion on his 6th birthday. He assimilated well to his life within the legion and rose to become a sub commander of one of the legions chapters: The Veiled Moon. When the Word Bearers were forced to kneel at Monarchia, Khere Arel was outraged. The God Emperor himself had admonished the seventeenth and their primarch merely for following their orders. Each world that had been brought under Imperial control by the Word Bearers was completely compliant, and if The Emperor was too blind to see it then perhaps the Emperor was not fit to rule. Stoking the embers of outrage into the blazing inferno of hatred within his own chapter, when Lorgar emerged from the eye and told his sons of the truth behind the stars, The Veiled Moon followed gladly into the first steps of heresy. Together with Morgal, Lord of The Veiled Moon, Khere Arel helped slowly purge his legion of those who would remain loyal to The Emperor. When the plans of Lorgar Aurellian came to fruition and the Horus heresy broke out he fought with the fervour of a true zealot to bring the primordial truth of chaos to mankind. Fighting from Istvaan to Terra, when Horus fell, Khere Arel was the last of his chapter to stand on Terran soil as they retreated. As The Scouring came to a close, on the demon world Sicarus, he became the First Acolyte and Coryphaus both to the newly appointed Dark Apostle Morgal. For centuries he waged war on mankind with the 42nd Host, all the while learning the mysteries of the immateriun from Morgal. Eventually he became aware of a growing sect within the legion involving his master, who planned to bring an end to The Dark Council and plunge the Word Bearers into eternal conflict, much as The World Eaters had been. In Lorgars absence, Erebus and The Dark Council had guided the legion well, keeping it as a united force where other chaos legions had splintered into petty factions. Confronting Morgal and killing him in a duel aboard the battleship Cardinal of Sin, Khere Arel returned to Sicarus to bring news of the plot and endure his eternal punishment in the fire of the soul chambers for the murder if a Dark Apostle. Unmoved by the revelation of a secret plot but unwilling to let such burning hatred and potential go to waste, or perhaps seeing the touch of The Gods upon him the council instead decided on a different fate. Khere Arel was no more, sentenced to eternal exile from Sicarus. Reborn as Khealor the Grey, given the title of Dark Apostle and sent forth to wage eternal war as the herald of the Word Bearers, The Shade of Sicarus. Wandering the galaxy with his host, unable to return to Sicarus until beckoned by the Gods or Lorgar himself, Khealor carves a bloody path accross the galaxy. Planting hidden cults on imperial worlds, raising solitary outposts, enslaving the populations of out of the way agri worlds and raising monuments to chaos in the ashen soil, all the while foreshadowing greater attacks by other, larger Hosts. Yet the Ruinous Powers have smiled on the wandering shade and in his Black Crusade he has received many gifts. As he reaves a crooked path through the imperium, Khealor awaits for the call to the end of days, when he will reunite with his legion to destroy the false emperor once and for all. As spiritual and wartime leader of his host, Khealor remains an aloof figure, communicating through his Coryphaus and First Acolyte unless leading his brothers in ritual. In battle he wears an ornate suit of terminator armour he recovered from the ruins of Colchis, the words of The Book of Lorgar are engraved in Ivory across every plate of armour. Lord Khealor also carries with him The Accursed Crozius known as Damnation, a smaller copy of the massive illuminatum wielded by Lorgar himself, Damnation was crafted by the primarch within the warp and cursed by his own hand. In his other hand Khealor bears a pre heresy era lightning claw.

The Raptor Sergeant is Kulai, a World Eater legionnaire of Gladiator Group 124, a small warband allied to Khealor's Word Bearers.
As each champion in my collection has his own personal history, here is Raptor Champion Kulai's story:
Kulai is a remnant of the War Hounds legion that left Terra at the start of the great crusade, an original member of the legion. When elite jump infantry were introduced, Kulai became a sergeant in the 3rd Assault company. When the heresy broke he sided with his Primarch immediately, relishing the violence he could bring to bear on those Terran legion veterans that fought for the emperor. Having proven his skills against the hoariest veterans and as a leader of the jump infantry, he survived as a bloody icon of all that the heresy stood for. Kulai fought on Terra, slaughtering loyalists in the droves as he fell upon them from the skies of his birth world. Upon skalthrax within the eye after the scouring, it was Krüger and his gladiator group that offered Kulai shelter from Kharn's ruthless onslaught. Though the legion was broken, he and his raptors had a new company to fight with and a way to spread the blood gods message throughout the galaxy. KILL MAIM BURN!!

This is First Acolyte Aradon: Brother Aradon had only recently gained the rank of battle brother within the XVII Legion Asatrtes when the Horus Heresy broke out, but as a member of the legion that had turned from the false Emperor before Aradon's birth, he was already steeped in the lore of Chaos. Present on Istvaan and later assigned to Calth he fought as only a warrior of the True Gods can, revelling in the death he created. After the Heresy, Aradon served as an equerry of sorts to The Dark Council. When Khere Arel was named as The Shade of Sicarus, Erebus himself assigned Aradon to the expedition as proof of his endorsement of Khealor. After Khealors First Acolyte, Kronos, was killed during a boarding action Khealor named Aradon as successor to the role. Though neither ambitious or stupid enough to attempt to overthrow Khealor (as is the way of apostles and their acolytes) Aradon has become a popular and revered figure within the host, a competent battle leader and excellent orator, possessed of devout faith in Chaos. In battle he leads a squad of warriors who show particular signs of devotion and leads the host in dark prayer with these warriors by his side. Since his ascension to First Acolyte, Aradon has wielded The Æther Blade, a halberd with a blade that is made of razor sharp demonic bone. Though not a demon weapon proper, The Æther Blade carries the last thoughts of each one if it's victims, a perversion of Eldar wraithbone. Considered by some to be a weapon of Prince Slaanesh, any truly worthy champion of the gods may wield it into war.

Brilliant stuff; I hope you're not about to cook those World Eaters Seriously they're well painted. The dark red of the Word Bearers is amazing; are you mixing darker colours into the red paint? If the rumours are true and they make a Khorne Beserker codex after all the fuss with End Times Fantasy, you might have to invest in more WE..

cheminhaler Thanks mate, I've not perfected the World Eaters colour yet but I'll get there when I paint Krüger, Lord of the 124 Gladiator Group. The Word Bearers colour is one of my favourite things to paint. It goes: Mechrite Red (Khorne red) Agrax earth shade 1/:3 blood red/:mechrite red Fine highlight of 1:1 mechrite:blood Here's my latest creation, A faithful warrior bearing one of the 82nd hosts unholy banners. On top is the symbol of The Chapter of The Veiled Moon, followed by script and the legion symbol, simple but effective. He goes with the devout brothers of Aradon's squad.

Cor! I love a well painted banner. Good freehand on the design. Have you ever thought about making a bigger paper banner on a garden wire banner pole and just going mad on the freehand?
Brown ink? I might try that and see how it looks next to the other terminator I did with the mixed paint method. Anyway, years ago the manager of GW Richmond had a Word Bearer themed Lost and the Damned army with well painted mutants and he was mixing some scorched brown into his mechrite red for the actual base colour. I've tried but it looks too much like a brown colour..

I use the tiniest amount of brown in my highlight on occasion. It can bring out that "clotted blood" feel.
I don't like paper banners, they feel odd to me, too thin and "papery" for lack of a better word.

So I have some questions. I have some awesome ideas for conversions, but the codex doesn't let me use a lot of the units I want to make.
If chaos can maintain space fleets, utilise looted imperial rhino's and armour parts, repair their own vehicles and even use demons to bolster them, why can't I use the following in my chaos army?
Land speeders Whirlwinds Razorbacks Centurions Chimeras for cultists Attack bikes Valkyries Space Marine flyers
If anyone can think of any counts as I could use with conversions of the above. I'd be very happy.
Cheers Paradill
