Where can you buy models for Hydras? I cant see them on GW website
Also
Where do you buy Medusas from? Or do the buts come in same box as basilisk, that would make sense? If not is there any decent way of converting so maybe I could use magnets to decide which i want to use?
Likewise is there any way of doing a magnet job with Chimeras for Hellhounds?

Oh ok thanks, Ill have a look on the forgeworld site, that makes things a little trickier to obtain.
Im not so much looking for magnets as much as Im wondering if kits are made in a way I could design them as such?

I don't believe that there is any way to convert a chimera to a hellhound, but you can magnetize the hellhound to make it either a devil dog or bane wolf. Also you can only get the hydra and medusa from forge world, along with the colossus and griffin.

Hydra and Medusa are both kits on Forgeworld. Conversions that I have seen for the Hydra use the autocannon from the Aegis defense line. Personally I would rather have the FW model since it looks pretty sweet. Medusa you can probably make from a basalisk kit of you could get a larger barrel (wider that is) and remove the siege shield. Hellhound / chimera magnetizing would be complicated at the least. They have different style turrets and backs that don't exchange easily (well maybe turret if its included in the hellhound box). But if you need a turret and a proper back for it you would be getting a chimera anyhow

I never thought of a hydra conversion, possibly a manticore and a quad gun? Either way it would be cheaper then ordering one off forge world for us non uk residents.

I get my magnets from eBay. Hmmm, wonder if I make a chimera/hell hound switchable. Gonna have me a go I think.

You can get rare earth magnets from here (assuming you're in the US): www.rare-earth-magnets.com/Some model/hobby shops may also carry them, but in my experience those that do usually don't have an extensive selection to choose from. As others have mentioned trying to build one hull that can be changed from a Chimera to a Hellhound will be fiddly at best. To swap between the Hellhound, Devildog, and Banewolf, though you really don't need magnets, as the turret gun can easily be swapped as all three gun types use the same mantlet/rear barrel part and just plug in to a hole in the front of the barrel. Although if you want to switch between hull weapons (heavy bolter, heavy flamer) magnets will be useful. Various Medusa patterns can be found here: www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Imperial_Guard/Imperial_Guard_Tanks?filter_reset=1More Medusa kits and the Hydra can be found here: www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Imperial_Guard/Imperial_Guard_Tanks?page=2The Hydra kit is old and is starting to show it. You will need to do some gap filling with green stuff and plasticard, and the autocannon barrels will most likely be warped--but you can straighten them by using the hot water method.

Thanks guys. Might have a go and see how easy using magnets is!

The most difficult thing with magnets is getting them fixed into place without winding up supergluing them to yourself, or whatever tool you are using to put them into place. With the really small ones it can get rather patience-trying. A little bit of practice will see you through, though. Just make sure they don't flip when you're putting them in place, and you wind up with the polarities reversed (so the repel rather than attract).

Speaking of which, it's a good idea to mark the polarities on all your magnets when you get them. Every time I get a new batch, I get out one of the older ones to use as a benchmark and paint one side of all the new ones.

Looking on forgeworld there as an upgrad kit to upgrade from basilisk to medusa. It says it is 6 parts, what are the six parts? i would like to magnetise my basilisk but want to make sure i dont glue into place sometiin that will need to be removed.

how about making a fuel tank that fits into the chimeras top doors that you can replace it with? something similar to this, albeit with a much smaller fuel tank?

If I recall correctly, the main part of that kit will be the Medusa gun--I got one years ago and never got around to building it. Not sure what the other parts might be, unless it's an upgrade kit for one of the armored compartment-enclosed variants, in which case it would be the superstructure that goes around the gun deck?
