I don't get it, since ordance barrage weapons roll 2D2 anyway for armour penetration, what is the benefit for taking a bastion breacher shell? I 've got the feeling i'm overlooking something?

A few reasons:
1. Longer range. 2. AP 1. 3. The weapon changes from Ordinance to Heavy, so you can do silly things like move and fire, without losing that extra d6 of armor penetration.

Ordnance Weapons do not roll 2d6 for Armour Penetration. They roll an extra die and then pick the highest.
Breacher Rounds, on the other hand, roll two dice and add them together.
@sgt. Rock: Ordnance doesn't affect Vehicles' ability to fire on the move anymore. The Medusa can move 6" and fire a normal shell at full effect, too.

Ah, good point, WestRider. I'd forgotten about that rule change. And yes, the difference between 2d6 pick the highest and 2d6 added together is pretty big. Land Raider what?

That bonus is on Pg. 74, at the bottom of the Vehicle Damage Table.

Thanks to the new blast rules, Medusas got even better with their Bastion Breachers, since there's no more half-strength-if-not-under-the-center-hole nonsense (although it did make using blast weapons a little more realistic). However, it did not change the fact that the Medusa is still a victim of its fantastic gun; it draws the fire of a Leman Russ Demolisher, but has the resilience of a Chimera.

survivablilty isn't really a problem, either deploy them behind an aegis defence line, or buy an additional chimera that you place right in front of it, blocking line of sight to the medusa. since you're only able to see the gun you can't hit it, and you are still allowed your shots

If you take bastion breaches shells, can you still fire the other shots, or would that be pointless? I haven't looked at it in a while but isn't the bastion breached shell only a blast where as the regular shot is a large blast?

the description of bastion breacher shells mentions the gun always has to fire using the bastion breacher profile. Until it was pointed out to me by someone here i thought the same as you
