Hi Guys
I like the story of the Macharius crusade, as I like its resemblance to Alexander the Great. I have only read what was in my codex.
I have notcied there are novels which I think I will give a read.
My question is though
I would like to base my imperial guard army as a Macharius army. Having not ready all the info there is about macharius are there any quirks such as uniform colour schemes etc that i should know?
I use cadian bodys with a space wolve grey coloured fatigues and darker blue armour. The guys who have shoulder pads are at the moment red on one side but I am thinking of making them black and white stripes instead.
The guardsmen at the moment have cadian head while command and vets have heads taken from all over the place such as space wolves and the empire etc.
Also what sort of armies are they? mine is an infantry backed up with artillery.
I am considering getting the lord solar figure and playing him as a lord commissar.

The macharius crusade contained nuts loads of regiments, so that's nuts loads of different uniforms, types of regiment etc.
Pretty much gives you free reign.

Paradill is right. Among some of the regiments that fought, the most notable ones were: Cadian Shock Troopers Death Korps of Kreig Mordian Iron Guard Elysian Drop Troops Armageddon Steel Legion Tallaran Desert Riders Valhallan Ice Warriors and the Catachan Jungle fighters all of these regiments have a model range, as well as dozen of other regiments of which not too much is known. Here is the link to some good information about the history and involvement of the Imperial forces. warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Macharian_Crusade

Unsure what you mean here mate. Not heard of Macharius as a planet (I'm presuming that's what you mean) if it is its minor. There's no written lore I could find (just googled and lexicanumed) so basically see above, knock yourself out. EDIT: Unless you mean Macharia? It's an Ecclesiarchy Shrine World devoted to the worship of Macharius as an Imperial Saint. Although it will naturally look to its own defence (sisters of battle) I think Ecclesiarchy shrine worlds are exempt from Imperial Guard tithes, meaning no regiment from Macharia. No reason you couldn't have an army of fanatical maniacs though, Sebastian Thor pulled it off.

Or just say that there were a few more planets named after him (Like how Alexander kept doing that with cities) and make your own fluff from your own world.
Maybe look at the Macharius model and convert them a little to reflect him.

Yeah, empty's right. 40k fluff is malleable enough for you to do almost anything.

Paradill's nailed it so I'd recommend regular Cadian with some sort of ornate feel to them and perhaps a banner or emblem reminiscent of Solar Macharius

Wasn't the final world conquered by the crusade, before things petered out, called Ultima Macharia?

Yeah, IIRC the fluff correctly he had a sad because his armies could go no further... Wasn't the final world conquered by the crusade, before things petered out, called Ultima Macharia? Yes. See above Paradill brand replies. I think you need to start a marketing service for these.

I would've been angry at my soldiers getting scared of ghosts as well. Anyway, here's a little gem I dug up: "Born in 356.M41 as the heir of the Planetary Governor of Donia, Pella, Macharius was already a renowned Imperial Guard General by his early 20's." [Some other stuff not relevant right now] "Using his new position, he oversaw a string of early conquests on the worlds of Lands End, Morbellum, and Jalfrezi III with his Donian Army. " Donia was later renamed Macharia so if you wanted to make Macharius' own army, I would suggest making the Donian Army. I couldn't find any records on the official look of the Donian Army, but if you want to start somewhere, I suggest giving your soldiers Thracian headgear: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/c8/National_History_Museum%2C_Sofia%2C_Bulgaria_20090405_051.JPG/150px-National_History_Museum%2C_Sofia%2C_Bulgaria_20090405_051.JPGFor further info and ideas, see: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_Macedonian_army

I thought I recognised Donia from somewhere, yeah weirdly it would fit into another project i was planning. I wanted to make a small space marine force based on spartans i.e. 300. Now the small force of greeks that lended a hand I believe were donians. So yeah I would have my spartan marines backed up by donians.
Hmm I guess fluff is half the fun of the hobby!
Not sure about the helmets though they look a bit silly ha, but its a starting point, cheers.

Donia is just short for Macedonia.
As for Spartan Marines, I believe Chapterhouse would serve your needs bitswise.

No, chicken jalfrezi is jalfrezi IV, jalfrezi III is Mutton Jalfrezi.

Bell of Lost Souls did an unofficial supplement on The Macharian Crusade a few years back. That might still be up somewhere on their site. The Rules in it were garbage (And I think this was back under the old Dex, so they used Doctrines and stuff), but there was some pretty cool fluff and modeling.
Also, his name wasn't "Solar", his title was "Lord Solar". I'm not sure what his first name was.
