Can a vet sgt take 2 shotguns and if so does that mean he can fire 4 shots? (shotgun = assault 2)
Codex says he can equip 2 shotguns (replace Laspistol and CCW) but I didn't think you could shoot both weapons during firing phase.
If so that's 4 shots vs 1 shot and I'll take that any day.

I beleive when you choose the Shotgun, you replace both the LasPistol and CCW mate... Wishful thinking though, but alas, Matt Ward didn't write our codex So our sergeants aren't super awsome, Apart from Bastonne and Harker ofc Sorry to put a dampner on your idea pal :/ Dave

Well I thought that also... BUT the codex does state
'Veteran Sergeant may exchange his laspistol and/or close-combat weapon for:'
That statement tells me I can replace his laspistol with a shotgun AND his CCW with a shotgun. I'm probably being dense and may have missed something else here (like a FAQ or something else that limits this).
Now whether or not he can shoot both at the same time is something else I think.
Excuse me for quoting the codex and I know this may be a faux pas but it's sticking me in the craw trying to understand this.

He can take two, but he can only fire one at a time. Pistols are the only Weapon with an exemption from the "one Shooting Attack per Turn" Rule.

Thanks... Figured there probably was some other reason that would limit shooting 2 at the same time.

yeah this is where i think "or" gets crossed out, so that you exchange his pistol AND CCW for a shotgun.

Well, if you replace your CCW with a shotgun, you get a pistol and a shotgun, which makes the pistol completely redundant, or the laspistol is exchanged for a shotgun, and now you have a CCW which doesn't do anything. Therefore you could take another shotgun, despite it having no use, just to model it to look awesome.

Actually, it's not redundant. You can replace your laspistol with a shotty, and then replace the CCW with a Power Fist, for example. I had plans on modelling a vet sergeant with a power fist resting akimbo on her hip and a bionic arm one-handing the shotgun. Was gonna be totally sweet. I'll get around to it someday.

I have a squad with 3 meltas. I was considering given them demolitions and then adding shotguns. However, I have always thought charges were a bad idea.
Any of your guys have good experiences with shotguns?

Yeah, I run Shotguns on my Meltavets all the time. There are actually quite a lot of Units that a full-strength Vet Squad can reasonably charge after unloading that kind of volley, at least later in the Game, after things have gotten a bit whittled down.
Tau Fire Warriors? Go for it.
SM Combat Squad? After a couple Melta shots and a half-dozen Shotguns have unloaded, they'll probably be down to like 2 dudes. 10 Vets should be able to handle that.
Gaunts without a Tärvigon nearby? Probably solid if there are less than a dozen or so of them before you start shooting.

As much as I love the idea of shotguns in 40K what is there bonus over lasguns?? You lose the ability to engage targets out to 24inch plus a lasgun can rapid fire twice at 12inch anyway, which is all a shotgun can offer in the first place. Yet to pick up a 6th Ed rule book yet so ignore my ridiculous rantings as appropriate

You can Charge after firing a Shotgun. Sometimes that can make all the difference.

Haha there it is. I seldom charge and initiate combat in the first place.
