How much research do you typically do when writing fluff, be it for your armies or for stories. I've recently been writing a lot and found that I have been doing huge amounts of research into existing fluff, so that mine is integrated with cannon, but at the same time individual, and not affecting pre-existing fluff. So really this is just to gauge whether I'm doing too much, just right, or maybe even not enough. Thanks, -Empirespy

I usually have Lexicanum open in a separate tab whenever I'm writing fluff, and if I have a question about something, or if I want to see if my idea has already been done (so I can just use what is already canon), i just search around Lexicanum for a bit.
If I can't find it there, it usually means that there's enough nebulousness for me to not worry about canon.

Since I like things to be as accurate as possible (while still being IN SPAAACE), I generally spend an average of something like four hours researching to every one of writing or brainstorming.

Yes, but your research tends to not be into 40k fluff, it's more oriented toward science factoids of mythology. Since my brain has decided to devote the space normally reserved for math to 40k fluff, most often I go from memory, and usually only have to look up spelling. It's not exactly a perfect system, but it works well enough for me, mostly because I'm lazy, and don't particularly care if I invalidate the more idiotic parts of the 40k canon. Reds

I research as much 40K stuff as I need to keep the setting vaguely intact without any silly derpy stuff.
