Hi guys!
So our gaming group have a 40K/BFG campaign going. And I am proud to report that the Imperials are in the lead!
This means that we are the attackers in the battles to come. Our first round will consist of us attacking several planets at once. The battles will be against: Eldar, Tau and CSM.
These battles will be planet-strike-like battles. We are using an abbreviated form of the planet strike rules. So there will be no strategems, the defenders have a bunch of fortifications and the entire attacking army deepstrikes. But the army deepstriking units may assault the turn they deepstrike.
The thing is, I have never played planet strike. I am also not all that familiar with the current rule book. So I was hoping you guys could help me out with sneaky plans or general tips.
I was thinking an all infantry army. Just swarm them with my drops. But due to lack of experience I have no idea whether this will work or not. What do you guys think?

As a Guard Attacker here, you basically want as many Meltaguns as possible. Drop in aggressively and just start cracking Bastions.
MeltaVets and Command Squads are pretty much your go-to there.
You also need durable Units that can jump on Bastions (Or the ruins left after you pop them) and stay in contact with them to Score. Combined Platoons, in other words. Flamers are probably a good bet here, along with Meltabombs and maybe Power Axes for the Sergeants.
Some mix of those two types of Units should do you pretty well if you've got the Models to just spam Infantry like that. Clarify with your group whether you're using the PlanetStrike or 6th Ed Rules for Buildings/Bastions. Push for the 6th Ed Rules, they're far more brutal to the occupants.

Sounds like good advice, thanks WestRider.
Luckily I have quite a bit of infantry, so should not be too hard. I was thinking of using platoons with special weapon squads. Special weapon squad carrying demo-charges/meltas dropping in close to my guard blobs. Hopefully getting a good one-two punch of the squad blasting bunker and the blob engaging.
Other units I am considering are: Rough riders - with assault 12" (if memory serves) should mean they can be pointed at all kinds of juicy targets. They should be good at quickly knocking out problem units like crisis/broadside suits or obliterators, no matter how bad they scatter. My one Vendetta - With the new(ish) flyer rules he should be quite durable and be able to take out pesky tanks or other flyers.
I'll ask about what rules they will be playing for the buildings and such, but will most likely be 7th ed.

Big Friendly Giant. You play the game on the back of an extraordinarily large man.

To be fair, if she is big enough to play a game of warhammer on, a hairy back is the least of your worries. She'd crush your pelvis.
