Alright, as some of you are aware I am about to embark on a Colonial Marine costuming project. For the chest armor plate I am considering the following options for slogan/artwork: 1. "Bug Wrangler" (a reference to my microbiology lab days) with a painting of a Xenomorph being lassoed. 2. "Bird is the Word" with a painting of a cartoon chicken being choked, complete with bulging eyeballs. Because: and and and (about 1:45 in). Edit: FYI, the chicken would sort of look like this, in the face. What do y'all think?

From the 2, I like bird is the word, but I rather like a slogan from 'starship troopers', as it fits the syfy uni a bit more.

Good point. The tie in to FMJ, though, is that I'm strongly considering adding the "Born to Kill" slogan to the helmet, and naming my Pulse Rifle "Charlene."

bug wrangler... mainly cus there's a freakling weirdo in this town who's flashing to bird in the word and posting it on you tube (he also went sledging in the snow naked down southover street - nutter).. ps, since none of you (bar possibly emptyhat) would know, southover street is insanely steep and sledging it is stupid, let alone completely naked with a mate following you with a video camera. vimeo.com/17406812and the 'word is the bird' vimeo.com/17426438yup...

Ummm... Thanks for sharing that, Tread. I think... Anyhoo. I just ordered my armor from SpatCave, and followed up with an e-mail to Spat asking that he install the IR sight bit to the helmet (as he asks people buying it to specify in the FAQ on the bit). He responded almost instantly saying that he would. I mentioned in my reply thanking him that we have a mutual acquaintance, who is a 501st Legion member, who said to say hello and is also now considering a CM costume. He wrote back asking me to give our mutual friend a pinch and said he's getting lots of stormies who are now going for CM costumes so they can have a more comfortable alternative costume to wear at cons. He seems like a really nice guy!

Bug wrangler. Although nothing is stopping you from listening to Bird is the Word on your mp3, while you're being shot at. Even though it's possibly the most fail military idea of all time. Good point. The tie in to FMJ, though, is that I'm strongly considering adding the "Born to Kill" slogan to the helmet, and naming my Pulse Rifle "Charlene." Me love you longtime, ten dollar! Sorry.... It was on TV the other day. Love that scene

Excellent, Chem, excellent.
I just ordered my shoulder lamp attachment from MatsuCorp. Matt (the guy who builds them) has also built some neat 40K props, and seems like a great guy as well--took less than a day to get information about the lamp and to finalize an order over e-mail. Very responsive!

I would really like to get a functional colonial marine outfit but it's probably impossible to get a permit for the tommy gun/870 combo. Which is, btw, probably the awesomest weapon ever.

There actually is at least one real functioning one in the hands of a private owner in America that I am aware of. I'll settle for the airsoft Pulse Rifle in lieu of being able to get my hands on the real thing, though. Thank you, Rook!

Yeah, I know there are a coupl eof "real" ones. To me AEGs just isn't worth it. Kinda fun, but I rather put my "expensive hobby"-money on other stuff.
BTW, the original CM motto from Aliens was "Bug Stompers". Is yours a typo or did you want to go for something different? Either way, choking the chicken is just too damn cool not to be used. B)

i dont remember ever hearing that in the film egon, plus the CM don't even know of the xenos, they only have Ripleys report and they don't really beleive it and are very skeptical of it.

Bug Stomper was the logo on the side of the first dropship, and was also a patch IIRC: www.ebay.com/itm/Aliens-Movie-Marines-Drop-Ship-Bug-Stomper-Logo-PATCH-/390402474978?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5ae5cd03e2Also, about half way down: www.imdb.com/title/tt0090605/faqBut Bug Wrangler is my term for myself from my days of working in microbiology labs. Read through the Colonial Marines Technical Manual last night, quite a good read. In it it's mentioned that the USCMC are often called upon to deal with infestations of other hostile alien species on colony planets, and that's where the bug hunt term came from. Also apparently lots of fighting between various national blocks over colony planets too. Oh, and the AEG was the way to go for me. About the same cost, if not a little less expensive than, the resin Pulse Rifle kits--and those don't even have a functional ammo-counter, whereas the AEG does. Also, trying to build your own screen accurate Pulse Rifle from parts will run you at least $1000 from what I've seen, and that's if you are even able to find some of the parts required to make a faithful reproduction, which still won't be functional because both the Thompson gun receiver and the shotgun parts for the launcher have to be made nonfunctional unless you want to deal with having to get the proper licenses from the ATF...

Vegna, sometimes you have to listen, with your eyes! *spooky stare* What Trooper said, there are other aliens besides the xenomorphs and the logo can be seen in the movie. Trooper, like the microbiology reference. And I can see why the AEG is the way to go, I just REALLy want a real one. B)

ah it was on the drop ship. Oooooooooo I hate that FAQ by linking the AvP films to the Aliens films! >.< they also claim Prometheus was before the films but Cameron claims its a different series and not tied to the Aliens one :/ Yeah my idea of where they got the bug references was right, Starship Troopers I also saw the movie props of their rifles on sale a few years ago! can never get a real one, cuz the clip, cal and all that jazz. (has anyone seen what Gearbox did to the pulse rifle? >.< )

Actually, I like the various attachments and upgrades for the Pulse Rifle in the game, and Gearbox may actually have gotten inspiration for at least one of them (the underbarrel shotgun attachment) from a description of a canister shot shell-type that could be used in the PR grenade launcher in the Colonial Marines Technical Manual. Seriously a great read for any fan of the franchise...

thats not the problem, the problem of the increase rate of fire ruining the sound! and aparently it's a mk2, they used mk 1 in the films and thats why it has a smaller clip size...which unless they increase the cal from 10mm to about 16mm makes no sense! plus they made it so you have to cock it and put it on the left! I did enjoy reading the Sephora details (I did get collectors edition)

Yeah, the Pulse Rifle's sound changing with the accelerated feed did kind of irk me as well. I've heard that Gearbox lowered the magazine capacity for game balance issues... The details about the Conestoga class ships that were included in the Collector's edition actually seem to have been partially lifted from the Technical Manual. There is an interesting back story to the Sulaco describing it as an unlucky ship.

yeah i guessed it was for balence, but tbh it doesn't make a huge difference, especially as best xeno attack is rupture I also noticed it seems the turrets are different in the game and film. I felt disapointed with how few Alien and Aliens points and feelings you got in the game :/

Yeah, I have yet to play as a Xenomorph.
The sentry robots are different looking in the game, in fact I think the ones the W-Y mercs use may be an entirely different type of turret.

Sad to hear the Xenomorph is hard to play. Does it suffer from the same control issues from going to surface to surface that were seen in the AvP game back in 2010? Sad to think that that wasn't analyzed and fixed if so...
