So my friend is a rule lawyer and he is wondering if each Infantry Platoon (Platoon command squad, infantry squads etc...) are all one big unit and each squad must stay withing unit coherancy with itself.
I have always thought they were purchased under the same FOS and were all deployed at the same time but other then that were individual units that can operate away from one another.
I am however going to need which pg. it is on that it states that one way or the other. Please help guys its really bugging me.

You are correct, sort of.
PCS are individual units entirely. They cannot be grouped together with anything else.
Everything else can be, however you must say it. This is called a blob.
Say you have 2 infantry squads and 1 HWS. You could blob the 2 IS together, and they must move around as one squad. The HWS can deploy wherever they want, shoot at whatever they want, and act as an individual unit.

Exactly, but unfortunately he is pulling the "where does it say that in the rules?" card. So I need a page number so I can convince him... -.-
Your referring to the combined squads rule which states infantry squads from the same platoon can combine into a "blob".
He is fine with that, but he says that means if they don't blob then each 10 man squad heavy weapon squad or whatever else that's bought under the platoon must stay in coherency with each other.
In other words that the whole platoon is one unit and must maintain coherency cause nowhere in the rules does it say each part is its own unit.

He needs the page number. On page 96 it states FOC and reserve roll rules regarding platoons but it does not reference unit coherency. however that would not be needed if it was one huge unit and therefore must be multiple units in one troop choice.

He seemed to reluctantly accept that, I just wish there was a concrete piece of GW rules that says otherwise they are all individual units. He's the type that feels "If it doesn't say its so that means it must be my way".
None the less thanks a ton guys. Prompt as always.

Your friend is either completely missing the concept and point behind the Imperial Guard infantry formation, or he's being a douche. It's true, nowhere in the rules does it explicitly say that these are separate units, but all through the book, there are things that show that. For example, if they all have to retain unit coherency, how would you mount an infantry squad in a Chimera and have it zipping forward, while the HWTs are left behind, because they can't buy the transport? GW's ruleswriting is sloppy, but they're not *that* bad. Your friend is just being a pain in the ass. I've never heard anyone make that argument before, and frankly, he needs to be bludgeoned with a sock full of pennies for that.

*sock full of metal dreads* this douche certainly needs a decent amount of dread socking in order to be educated.

Well at the bottom of page 96 in the IG Codex it states;
*Note that the units on these two pages may not be chosen individually - only as part of an Infantry Platoon
The important word here is units, so it actually names the HWT, SWS and Conscripts as units so they should be treated as individual units (ie not having to be in unit coherency)
However if the platoon starts off in reserve then all the units in the platoon have to start in reserve!

page 37, bottom of infantry squad special rules: combined Squad "If you decide to form any squads into larger units, then they are of course treated as a single unit from that point. Combined Squads may not split up into their constituent component units again during the game." think that clearly says that all parts of a platoon are individual units. I'd also say the entire page 89 screams their individual units: "each entry in the army list represents a different unit." As above said bottom page 97 "*note that the UNITs on these..." and of course the platoon page doesn't even imply that their a single unit, just a single troop choice. Also look on the FaQ: www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m3030015a_Imperial_Guard_v1.2_FEBRUARY13.pdfpart on the right that starts Page 96 clearly says they only act as 1 unit during deployment when the mission restricts deployed units.
