Once again, I'm going to recommend Manticores. They're good against basically everything the Necrons field. Against Wraiths, the multiple Blasts can generate enough Hits that some of those Instant Death Wounds get through the 3++, and the AP4 isn't a drawback at all. They can reliably rack up Penetrating Hits on the Vehicles to strip Quantum Shielding, they can pound the Infantry (especially Warriors). The only things a Manticore can't deal with in the Necron Army are the Flyers.
Well funny you should mention I have just ordered the manticore sprues so will be trying them out. I am losing a bit of faith in my basilisks. I normally field two but in that game I use one of them as a medusa to try it out. With the basilisk I find it is awesome when it hits, but it doesnt hit that often, especially as they are nearly always in my minimum range.
That being said, I have not got my rulebook to hand, what is the range of a manticore?
I think I may convert at least one of my basilisks into a Medus full time.
Vendettas are really the best thing we've got against the Necron Flyers. Against AV11, 3TL Lascannon is really nasty, and we can pick them up almost as easily as they can take Scythes. If you are going this route, do not take an Astropath or Officer of the Fleet. You want to get the first shots, which means you want the Scythes coming on the board before your Vendettas do.
I hear you, and t des make sound sense, I am just currently in the mood of not wanting to go with the obvious choice I guess plus I try to build an infantry and artillery type army. But each day I fancy the flyers more ad more, and each game I get more and more fed up of having to deploy so much infantry.
A Quad Gun is probably a better bet here than an Icarus Lascannon. The Lascannon has its place (especially for the increased chance of one-shotting a Helldrake), but against the AV11 Scythes, the extra shots to strip Hull Points are more useful.
The jury is still kind of out on Hydras. If they can survive until the Turn after the Scythes show up, they're solid, but they're not hugely durable, and without Interceptor, the Scythes are often going to be able to Zoom on and get Side Armour shots with those Tesla Destructors, which generally doesn't end well for the Hydra. At least the fact that almost all the Necron Vehicles are Skimmers means that the Hydras can still do something useful when there aren't Flyers on the board.

I totally agree with you. The Icarus I have only used past couple of weeks. I had heard of the Necrons starting with AV13 and thought I would try and go for the pen and then had the hydra to try and get glances.
In reallity though with the icarus it just felt like a pot shot. I got terrible rolls when I did pen, if it penetrated at all. I definately missed rollling four dice with twin linked and think that is the way forward.
Its the very first time i used a hydra and its still in mid conversion but i found it crap that it isnt twin linked. With skimmers is it still a 6 to hit?
And P.S.
I forgot to put on the list that I used, two lascannon heavy weapons teams and a heavy bolter heacy weapons team.
Because my Hydra actually lasted till I think it was turn 3 when a disordered charge by a wraiths unit with an attached storm lord destroyed it. And I think it was largely because he concentrated a lot of his fire towards my heavy bolters and lascannons and also because I had units show up behind him
