Basically I've been playing the Halo franchise for quite a while and have been toying with the idea of combining my current Imperial Guard regiment and my Heresy era Salamanders which Cosmic is currently working on to re-create a proper UNSC style army based on the UNSC Infinity. I've been comparing the Infinity's statistics found here: halo.wikia.com/wiki/UNSC_InfinityWith 30 and 40k era cruisers and have discovered that the Infinity is actually radically smaller than those found in the 41st millenium, which makes it ideal for reconnaissance missions and transportation. Ok so basically I'll be separating my Salamanders into Fire Teams of 5 - 10 Astartes/Space Marines. I've decided they'll count as Spartan Mk. III's which were mass produced in quantity to fight on various fronts rather than the Mk. II's (like Master Chief) who are virtually invincible. I've also abandonned trying to convert IG vehicles into Scorpions and Warthogs simply because I find the outcomes look silly unless done with a large enough budget. I would however consider buying some official warthogs like Ashot has done, because the scale seems accurate... So this will basically be as if the Halo universe existed in the 41st millennium. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about the whole thing...

Instead of IIIs, you could go for IVs. The IIIs were equipped mostly with light, stealth versions of the standard MJOLNIR armor, and weren't meant for frontline head-on engagements (A company gets slaughtered when they're forced into an open-field engagement). They were also mostly killed off, with about a single company of them remaining. If you read the onyx books, the IIIs' armor cannot take hits. At all.
The IVs are essentially mass-produced IIs (A difference being that IVs are recruited from adults). While they're not on a level near the chief, Chief is exceptional, even for a SPARTAN-II. In addition, they are the canonical troop complement to the Infinity. Like the IIs (Chief not withstanding), the IVs are not invincible, and will be brought down when ludicrously out-numbered/out-gunned, much like fluff marines. (You run across the remains of several IV teams in Halo 4)
In addition, the IVs incorporated the surviving SPARTAN IIIs, who could be represented as Scouts in your army. For vehicles, the predator is very similar to the scorpion, mongooses (in a certain form) could be modeled off of bikes, and I know the Infinity has access to walkers which fufill a similar role to an SM dreadnought.

III's survive better if you equip them better. Noble team were III's (and one II) equipped with standard Mjolnir and they don't die easily, Carter gets shot to shut inside a pelican cockpit and still smashed it into a scarab, pretty hardcore.

Noble Team was also detached from the other IIIs and given over to the Army. Gamma company (who are the only canonical survivors of the IIIs, unless Delta company was still formed after the destruction of Onyx) trained exclusively on the SPI armor. Anyhow, IV's are just as well equipped. (They use GEN2 armor, I'm not sure how that matches up with the older Mjolnir variants Noble used). I'm just saying the IIIs would be better depicted as SM scouts. They would probably be much better than the IVs at infiltration and all the sneaky business. The IIIs were built with that sort of thing in mind, and even their standard armor included cloaking functionality. Their only downside is that they're jumpy and prone to opening fire too early when preparing an ambush, because of the additional drugs Kurt added to their augmentation process. Meanwhile, the IVs operate pretty much like your standard Space Marine, fighting and defeating overwhelming numbers in small units on the frontline, and occasionally being killed "offscreen" for dramatic effect
