When the new IG codex comes out in a year or so (last up date is 2003) should some IG models/doctrines cost less points?
Okay the new Eldar Warwalker is cheaper and gets 2 Hvy Weapons instead of 1 like our sentinel does. Also I think it is closed top (I am not 100% sure on this closed top thing).
If we add Hardened Fighters and carapace armor we have a squad of IG that is almost the same points as a Space Marine but does not perform like a space marine.
These are points are that as new codexes come out we drop farther down the food chain in power (not that we have power) but our Strength in number decreases in value because we are costing more than other armies do.
I agree enormously with addictedwoz. Guardsmen can be outpreformed by even grots (I've proved it) but you play IG for that one man that wont fall back and is proven to stand his ground. Well, atleast for me. Guardsmen are gold as they are.
The only thin I 'd like, is more options to basic squads such as shot guns for free or a new doctrine enabling us to get hellweapons for normal squads. I'd like also heavy stubbers as special weapons or sniper rifle as special and so on....

as far as making guard cheaper, I'm not sure that's viable on a unit by unit level - the doctrines are meant to add an edge to a squad but are alot like wargear, very expensive and cool but not enough to make it so you can have a wargear heavy army and keep it competitive.
I wouldn't mind if they made some of the special equipment doctrines cost xpts/model instead of set prices per unit - that makes things like carapace armor really unattractive to armies with full command platoons and whatnot that have a bunch of small units in them.
Pipe down Sergeant, we'll be back on Cadia before the 14th black crusade, afterall, that heretic filth woudn't dare show up until we arrived after the bootstompin' we gave em last time!
