The past two weekends have been very eventful for my Krieg Engineers, having taken part in both VICC and The Western Smash. Below you will find summaries and photos of all 10 games. VICCTwo weekends ago a friend and I played in the Victorian Interclub Challenge (or “VICC”) which covers 40K, Fantasy and Warmachine/Hordes. Neither of us are club regulars so we volunteered to stand in for any club needing players, and were taken in by the Ringwood Wargaming Club. There were 11 four-player teams at 1500 points, with three individual games on one day and two doubles on the second. I am happy to say that after two days not only did Ringwood win the 40K tournament (largely tanks to my other team members), but received the award for the best club over all three systems to boot! It was an excellently run event, a very enjoyable weekend, and I look forward to playing again next year. Here is the list I took along to the event along with my army arrayed for battle: CCS, Lascannon, Camo, MoO Veterans, Lasguns, 3x Plasmagun, Autocannon, Forward Sentries Veterans, Shotguns, 3x Flamer, Demolitions Veterans, Shotguns, 3x Flamer, Demolitions and Chimera, Multilaser, Heavy Flamer Veterans, Shotguns, 3x Meltgauns, Demolitions and Chimera, Multilaser, Heavy Flamer Vendetta, 3x Lascannon Colossus, Heavy Bolter Manticore, Heavy Flamer Exterminator, 3x Heavy Bolter, Pask Aegis, Quad Gun Unlike some of my previous battle reports these are more in the form of a “picture story” with highlights. Unfortunately I don’t have the time (or memory) to do blow-by-blow accounts of every game, but I hope you enjoy these anyway.

VICC Day 1: Game 1Day 1 started with my first ever game against Orks. My opponent had a Warboss, Mek with KFF, two Battlewagons with a unit of Nobz and a big unit of Shoota Boyz, some more Boyz in a Trukk, some Lootas, some Deffkoptas, a Dakkajet and some Killa Kanz. The mission was five objectives with Dawn of War setup. I deployed my Aegis and shooty Vets on the right flank to distract and draw forces then weighted the rest of my units on the left flank and centre with the artillery. The Orks deployed the Lootas on my right supported by the Boyz in their Wagon and then surged straight into the centre with everything else. Despite taking out the Kanz early my artillery firepower was largely ineffectual, and it took me a couple of turns to take out the vehicles. On my right flank the Ork Wagon Boyz rolled towards the Vets and their Quad Gun, and even though I destroyed the Wagon they were able to dislodge my Vets. The Blimp came in on this flank and deployed an Engineer squad, but due to a critical trajectory error the Engineer with the Demo Charge landed it on himself and killed most of the squad. Moments before being evaporated, the three Flamers in the unit hit the Orks, but I was unable to take out the squad. To add insult to injury the Orks then used my own Quad Gun to shoot down the Blimp! In the centre the Nobz made it to my lines and were able to wreck one of the Engineers Hades Drill (Chimera). The angry Engineers employed their charge with much greater effect than their brethren on the right flank and insta-gibbed all of the Nobz. Prior to this point the Warboss had split off and blown up Pask’s ride with his Power Klaw, then attempted to take on the CCS who were sitting on a building, but failed his charge. The next turn he made for the nearby Engineers sitting on their objective but the Manitcore (no more rockets) roared forward to try and shield them from his charge, and the CCS leapt off the building and charged into combat. The MoO challenged the Warboss and even though I caused a wound (he only had one left) he made his armour save and punked the MoO. Heroic intervention aside, the Engineers were shot up by the Dakkajet and fled, meaning I held one objective to two and lost the game. Even though the two last scoring Ork units were bunched on objectives my artillery resolutely refused to land on target and this cost me the game. Kudos go to my opponent for a fun and challenging game. Whilst I had terrible luck with my scatter dice in this game, as you will see it all turned around in the next...

VICC Day 1: Game 2Game two was a two objective mission on the old school table quarters deployment. My opponent was playing a lovely Chaos Emperor’s Children army with lots of FW models. His list involved Lucius leading terminators in a Land Raider, an Emperor’s Children unit in a Rhino, a Noise Marine Squad with Sonic Weaponry, 10 Cultists, an Aegis and a Helldrake (with its horrible flamer-thing). Deployment was very much an Aegis stand-off at 33 inches. My opponent had his cultists manning the Quad and the Noise Marines defending their objective, whilst the Land Raider and Rhino prepared to roar forward. My deployment followed the same principle. Much to my surprise I seized the initiative and sent my Chimeras forward to searchlight the foe (damn night fighting). I them proceeded to blow up the Land Raider with my Manticore and the Rhino with Pask’s Exterminator. If this wasn’t brutal enough on Turn 2 the Manticore landed three direct hits on the Emperor’s Children in the Rhino crater, causing22 wounds and wiping them out. Lucius and his cronies started to leg it across the field destroying one of the forward Engineer units and their ride, and much to my horror the Terminator Champion rolled on the Chaos Boon Table to re-roll failed armour saves. This mace wielding git absorbed a ridiculous amount of firepower before I took him down with some well placed shots from a single Plasmagunner. I was eventually able to take out Lucius by retracting the second forward Engineer squad and Meltagunning him in the face. At my home base things were going well until that horrible Helldrake flew in and wiped out most of the Plasma Vet squad and the CCS. It then flew off the board and returned to reserves. Meanwhile over at my opponent’s Aegis I had killed half the Noise Marines with artillery when my Blimp came soaring through the sky to deposit an Engineer squad to kill the Cultists. Even though they didn’t throw their Demo Charge on themselves this time, they were only able to take out half the Cultists before that damnable Helldrake came swooping in from reserve and flamed the squad. It then took repeated artillery blasts from the Colossus and the MoO to finally kill the last of the Cultists and Noise Marines to leave the opposing objective uncontested. The final moments of the game were incredibly tense, as the Helldrake had flown back to my defensive position and placed a template on the three remaining Guardsmen. The two survivors of the CCS were charred to a crisp, but the final dice turned up a one and the plucky Plasmagunner from the Veteran Squad lived! As the last surviving scoring model in the game it meant I had won! (Interestingly it was the same Plasmagunner who punked the Terminator Sergeant and had survived several rounds of combat with a Mawloc before it hit-and-ran out of combat earlier in the year). Despite me lucking out on turn one my opponent put up a great showing and was able to claw the game back to within a knife’s edge of victory.

VICC Day 1: Game 3The third game of the day was against some Space Puppies and Guard allies commanded by a very competent general who had convincingly outplayed me earlier in the year. He was running a Rune Priest, Wolf Lord on a big wolf, some Thunderwolves, Long Fangs, 3 Grey Hunters in Rhinos/Razorbacks, a Primaris Psyker, Veteran Squad, Marbo and a Vendetta. The mission was unconventional, with five objectives and my forces being deployed in the centre of the field with the Wolves coming on from a long edge. I deployed with my back to a big arse building and prepared for the onslaught. As the last game of the day my recollection isn’t too clear, however my opponent proceeded to systematically pick apart my forces and take the objectives. Most cunningly he made exceptional use of the many levels in the buildings and denied me almost all of my artillery firepower early in the game when it would have mattered (i.e. before they were destroyed). One highlight was that my opponent’s Marbo popped up, blew up the Colossus and killed my CCS in combat. I then launched a volley of fire from my Plasma Vets and failed to kill him before he proceeded to then munch through them in combat as well! Aside from the damnable levels the board was one of the best I’ve ever played on and made for and incredibly cinematic game. Here are a heap of photos from the game: The game ended as a substantial defeat, but full credit goes to my opponent for making it an enjoyable game.

VICC Day 2: Game 4Day two consisted of two doubles games, and in both occasions I was paired with the Necron player in our team. Fortuitously I managed to actually get a proper copy of his list: Destroyer Lord, Mss (??), Weave 10x Warriors, Ghost Ark 10x Warriors 10x Immortals, Gauss 6x Wraiths, 3x Pistol, 3x Wraith 5x Destroyers 10x Scarabs Annihilation Barge, Tesla Cannon Annihilation Barge, Tesla Cannon Even though both our lists were focussed around a strong shooting element, we played well together and complemented the other’s play styles. Unfortunately I completely forgot to take any photos during the fourth game. This is a shame because it was an absolutely cracking time. We were matched up against a Word Bearer Chaos army and some Dark Eldar. The Chaos had a flying Daemon Prince, heaps of Marines, a Rhino, a Helldrake and a Slaughterfiend with the str8 cannon-things. The Dark Eldar contained a plethora of Raiders, Venoms and Ravagers, filled with all manner of Warriors, Trueborn and Incubi led by an Archaon. The mission was Kill Points and had a deployment which was completely out of the ordinary. It had overlapping deployment bands which split the teams up, which I’ve illustrated in the following picture: This kind of set up obviously leads to each team attempting a pincer movement to kill off the other side’s middle team. We decided that it made most sense for me to take the end deployment because my artillery had the range to hit the other side of the board. We guessed the Dark Eldar were likely to be the opposing central army, allowing us to crush their flimsy units between our two forces. Also we figured the Necrons would have a better capacity to withstand the punishment from being exposed in the centre. Unfortunately our opponents had first turn and rained all manner of destruction upon the poor Necrons. Miraculously they were not entirely devastated, and from here the game degenerated into a big ol’ scrap spanning the entire length of the board. Early in the game I was able to immobilise the Slaughterfiend and kill enough Chaos Marines with artillery to prevent all bar the Helldrake and Daemon Prince from reaching the fray. The Necrons fought bitterly and were almost wiped out near the end. Thanks to the Helldrake only a few Warriors and the Destroyer Lord survived (the Lord had been locked in combat with the Archaon since turn 2). The Dark Eldar had advanced on the Necrons and moved away from my shorter ranged firepower, and as a result the Krieg units were largely unscathed until turn 5/6 when the Helldrake and Daemon Prince reached my lines. The Helldrake was eventually taken down by the Exterminator firing into its rear arc. Despite taking a very risky shot with the MoO on the grounded Daemon Prince (he was about 3 inches from my other units – the MoO actually hit!) I was unable to kill the damned thing. We won the game because we had systematically dismantled the Dark Eldar army with its many light vehicles and small squishy units. The Exterminator reaped a heavy toll, and as the Dark Eldar were otherwise occupied the two Chimera units reached their lines and wreaked all sorts of carnage with templates and Multilasers. The heros of this game were definitely the Necron Wraiths. I have never seen such insanely ridiculous rolling of 3+ saves in 10 years of the hobby. They absorbed an incredible quantity of firepower over the first three turns and it eventually took the combined firepower of the entire Dark Eldar and Chaos armies to take them down around turn 4. Once more it was a shame I forgot to take any photos because it was a really interesting, hard-fought game on all sides.

VICC Day 2: Game 5The last game of the tournament was again a slightly peculiar setup. One half of a team started in the centre with a single objective whilst the other half came on from a long board edge. The other team was split in two and started on the two short board edges. Our opponents were Drop Podding Ultramarines using the Space Wolves Codex and a Guard army with some Marine allies. The Wolves consisted of Logan, 2 Rune Priests, some Multimelta-totting Long Fangs and many Grey Hunter units. The Guard were using a Librarian with “The Gate” to deep strike a 40 man blob of Guardsmen around the board, complemented by some Marine Scouts on an Aegis, some Vets in a Chimera, two Mortar squads and two Psyker Battle Squads. We were the defenders and given the Necrons played “sacrificial lamb” in the previous game I volunteered to deploy in the centre this time. In hindsight it was probably the wrong decision, but it would have been horrible for my team mate to get monstered two games in a row. Coincidentally the game opened with me killing a few enemy Guardsmen before getting absolutely monstered by the return fire and the podding Wolves. The MoO, all my heavy support choices and one of the Chimera squads were taken out of action. Of my starting forces I was left with the Plasma Vets, Melta Vets in their Chimera, a slightly ravaged CCS and a Quad Gun. We were incredibly lucky because the deep striking Guardsmen blob scattered 11 inches off towards our long board edge, then only rolled a 1 for their run move. This meant my Blimp was able to hover on from reserve and unleashed the Engineers with three flamers on them (the Demo Charge was Quad Gunned due to poor placement on my behalf). This killed two thirds of the Guardsmen, whilst the rest were taken out by the Necrons who had arrived simultaneously. A heated battle erupted along our board edge between the Necrons (who had arrived in force) on our long board edge (notably the Wraiths, Destroyers and Scarabs) and Logan’s Wolves. This lasted for two further turns before Logan and a single Terminator Wolf Guard wandered off to take our right table quarter. On our left flank a pair of Rune Priests came down in a pod with some Grey Hunters and proceeded to unleash Jaws of the World Wolf on the Necrons, which due to their low Initiative caused all sorts of carnage. The remaining Necrons were able to neutralise the Priests and moved in towards the central objective. Whilst battle raged amongst the Necrons and the Wolves my limited forces had their own problems to deal with. Another Drop Pod had come down on the opposite board edge and I had to use the resources at my disposal to handle the situation. A Grey Hunter and Wolf Guard had levelled Meltaguns at my remaining Chimera, but my Commander had previously jumped on the Quad Gun and killed the Meltagunner before he could fire (as he was the closest model - the Wolf Guard then whiffed his shot). My Chimera then rumbled over the Defence Line and lobbed a Demo Charge on the squad, and with the help of the Blimp’s Lascannons killed all bar one (who died to an overwatching Shotgun when he charged the Chimera). The enemy Chimera came tearing forward to deposit a single Junior Officer to contest the objective, and even though I was unable to kill him he fell half an inch short. By now the enemy Mortars had killed the last of my Plasma Vets and the Melta Vets disembarked to hold the objective, but unfortunately the Mortars again took their toll and a Psyker Battle Squad caused them to flee off the objective. The Psyker Battle squads had caused all sorts of problems for both the Krieg and Necron forces during the game, and had accounted for at least four units fleeing off the board or the objective. We were running overtime and had to finish the game at Turn 4. The Ghost Ark had advanced with a warrior unit, but unfortunately due to a communication error with my team mate they hadn’t disembarked to hold the objective. This meant the game ended with the objective uncontested and in the end we lost on secondaries. Regardless, this game was incredibly hard fought and was a fitting way to finish the tournament. As noted at the start (much to our surprise) our team (Ringwood) ended up winning the 40k tournament. All of our opponents (and team members, who we only met on the first day) deserve thanks for making such enjoyable games, and the organisers of VICC deserve credit for hosting such a well organised and smooth weekend.

The Western SmashAfter playing in VICC the weekend before my Krieg Engineers also competed in the Western Smash over the Easter weekend. The Western Smash is a 1850 point hobby based tournament, and largely thanks to a heavy Comp element I managed to place 9 of 28 (two wins, three losses). More importantly I received Player’s Choice for the best army, for which I was incredibly honoured. It was a great weekend and thanks go both to my five opponents and D6 Gaming for running such a successful event. Here is the list I took along with the army arrayed for battle: CCS, Lascannon, Camo, MoO Veterans, Lasguns, 3x Plasmagun, Autocannon, Forward Sentries Veterans, Shotguns, 3x Flamer, Carapace, Demolitions Veterans, Shotguns, 3x Flamer, Demolitions and Chimera, Multilaser, Heavy Flamer Veterans, Shotguns, 3x Meltgauns, Demolitions and Chimera, Multilaser, Heavy Flamer Vendetta, 3x Lascannon Banewolf, Heavy Flamer Colossus, Heavy Bolter Manticore, Heavy Flamer Exterminator, 3x Heavy Bolter, Pask Aegis, Quad Gun Big Mek, Shoota, ‘Eavy Armour 12x ‘Ard Boyz, Shootas with Nob, Power Klaw, Boss Pole

Western Smash Day 1: Game 1Much to my delight my first game was drawn against a gorgeously painted technicolour Daemon army. The paint scheme is brilliant because it intelligently uses the colour wheel to create a truly chaotic, yet cohesive army. There is a picture of the army below but here is a link to the army’s blog so you can appreciate it in its full glory: www.wargamerau.com/forum/index.php?s=365d6f6f16131d155c0832e090ce3947&showtopic=148562Lord of Change (a.k.a. “Doom Chicken” – Ka-Kaw!) Keeper of Secrets 6x Flamers 10x Horrors 10x Horrors 10x Plague Bearers 20x Daemonettes Soulgrinder Flying Daemon Prince (Tzeench) Flying Daemon Prince (Slaanesh) We took a while to get going as we spent about 20 minutes heaping adoration on the other’s models and discussion the hobby in general. Following this was about 10 minutes of determining Daemon Psychic powers and various abilities (thankfully my opponent had printed off rubrics to write everything down on). When we eventually got around to playing, the mission was essentially capture a single central objective (my pig objective marker – “Capture the Pig!!”). Here are our armies deployed on the field: The Banewolf being Vector Struck by a Daemon Prince: The Krieg forces advancing towards the pig: Master of Ordnance directing in artillery strikes: After the Orks failed to charge the horrors in the background, the Flamers dropped in and made the poor Deff Korps disappear: Slaaneshi daemons deep striking onto the backfield and the Daemon Prince again Vector Striking (this time the Blimp): Plague Bearers assaulting my Chimera in the midfield: My forces in the final turn of the game before and after the Daemons unleashed hell: The last poor Krieg Sergeant was ignominiously blasted away by a Daemonette using my Quad Gun (this keeps happening...). At the end of the day I’d only really managed to take down the three flying monstrous creatures (funny how things work out sometimes). The Flying Chicken took the dedicated firepower of my entire force to knock out of the sky, and after it was grounded a Meltagun and Demo Charge finally managed to take off its last two wounds (my opponent painted the picture of the plucky Engineer shoving the demo pack down the beast’s gapping maw). This was a very solid defeat but I had a great game and it was such a joy to see my own army arrayed against such a beautiful enemy army (particularly as the drab board made both our forces really stand out). If I’m going to be trounced I’d rather it be by a well painted army and a friendly opponent.

Western Smash Day 1: Game 2My second game was against a heavily converted Obliterator Cult Chaos Marine army which was represented by lots of conversions, lots of Obliterators and the Mark of Nurgle (MoN) across the board: Sorcerer, MoN, Jump Pack, 2 Mastery Levels, Aura of Dark Glory and a Spell Familiar 10x Chaos Marines, CCW, MoN, Icon of Vengeance, Meltagun, Autocannon, Power Weapon 10x Chaos Marines, CCW, MoN, Icon of Vengeance, Meltagun, Autocannon, Power Weapon 10x Chaos Marines, CCW, MoN, Icon of Vengeance, Meltagun, Autocannon, Power Weapon 5x Warp Talons, MoN 3x Obliterators, MoN 3x Obliterators, MoN Forge Fiend, Extra Extoplasma Cannon Aegis, Quad Gun This was a five objective game called “Bouncing Rabbits” (it was the Easter weekend), where the world had low gravity and the objectives scattered each turn if they weren’t being held. The low gravity also meant jump units/bikes moved +3 inches and all standard weaponry (not templates, blasts or pistols) could shoot +6 inches. Naturally this meant our two forces were squared against one another, each camping on two objectives and sitting behind our defensive lines: The Warp Talons and Sorcerer had advanced into the centre of the field and after a cursory artillery barrage only the Sorcerer emerged with one wound, and the Slaughterfield had also been blown back to whence it came by the Manticore. It then took a round of overwatch and two turns of combat with the Ork Boyz (no Power Klaw due to declined challenges) to finally take that last wound off the Sorceror. In the centre of the field it took multiple turns of dedicated firing to kill the obliterator squad on my right flank, but the one on the left was causing major problems. Despite a demo charge being delivered accurately to their ugly faces, they made their five-up invulnerables and proceeded to kill two veteran squads and a Chimera. I eventually killed two of the brutes and the other broke and fled (then failed his regroup the next turn and continued running) It was through continuous artillery strikes that I finally managed to break a Marine squad off their objective and they fled off the board. This resulted in me holding two objectives to the enemy’s one when the game ended. It turned out that whilst the extra range was handy, it didn’t have a decisive impact on the game. It just added an extra dimension and made for a closely fought and interesting contest.

Western Smash Day 1: Game 3The third mission of the weekend was essentially a reversal of the second in that it was a high gravity world and weapon ranges were reduced by six inches (yay, three of my squads had 6 inch range shotguns!). It ended up working in my favour however because much to my horror I was facing 138 Orks and their two Dakkajets!! The Ork list comprised: Warboss on Bike Big Mek 10x Lootas 6x Nob Bikers 30x Shoota Boyz, 3x Big Shootas, Power Klaw 30x Shoota Boyz, 3x Big Shootas, Power Klaw 30x Shoota Boyz, 3x Big Shootas, Power Klaw 30x Shoota Boyz, 3x Big Shootas, Power Klaw Dakkajet Dakkajet I started off in my corner of the board with the Ork horde arrayed opposite me; to think one of the Boyz squads was still in reserve!! With first turn I advanced as many mobile elements as I could to stall the Orks and then affect a fighting withdrawal. My artillery took two turns to knock out the Nob Bikers, and I was eventually able to gun down the Warboss before he hit my lines. My Banewolf intercepted a Boyz unit but I was a bit underwhelmed with its performance, as it only killing 7 orks per turn (I guess if you play a horde you need to be good at spacing squads). On two occasions I had been hoping to bunch up Orks as they assaulted my tanks and kill them in the ensuing explosion, but this tactic didn’t really work because they were destroyed by glancing from the charging Boyz before the Nob’s Klaw could cause penetrating hits. A variation of this tactic did work when I hit the bunched Boyz squad which had assaulted a Chimera with my Colossus – when the smoke cleared something like 15-16 Orks had disappeared! As in most games my Blimp got shot down, this time by a Dakkajet. As the game progressed both our forces were being whittled down, but never fear there is always just another casual 30 Orks coming on from reserve: After shooting its last rocket my Manticore gunned it over my Defence Line and roared forward to Heavy Flamer some Orks. My Exterminator had a field day gunning down Orks, and was responsible for taking down the last of the mob which had killed the Banewolf on the right flank and one of the Dakkajets in the closing stages. This game was an absolute bloodbath and in the end the Orks had the only remaining scoring unit, which was sitting on an objective. It was a ripper of a game and I take great pride in the fact that I actually killed about 80% of the opposing force. Of the Orks only 22 Boyz (which were the unit that arrived from reserve), a velocity locked Dakkajet and 8 Lootas survived. Here you can see the dead pile (minus the Lootas on the rock): Conversely my own forces had been absolutely mauled, and only a few models were left standing; the Commander, MoO, Mek, Colossus and Exterminator:

Western Smash Day 2: Game 4Game 4 was against some retro Ultramarines, complete with old-school Rhinos and Vindicators, based around a Vulkan Marine list: Vulkan 5x TH/SS Terminators in Godhammer Land Raider 10x Tacticals, Meltagun, Multimelta, Combi-Flamer, Rhino 10x Tacticals, Meltagun, Multimelta, Combi-Flamer, Rhino 10x Tacticals, Meltagun, Multimelta, Meltabombs, Rhino 5x Scouts, 4x Sniper Rifles, Missile Launcher 2x Attack Bikes, 2x Multimelta Vindicator Vindicator Vindicator This game didn’t go very well at all, and unfortunately it was compounded by the fact I chose to go second and not first. I’m sure there was a logical reason at the time why I chose second, but this put me in a bad position which my opponent deftly capitalised upon. Essentially my army was meticulously picked apart and the Terminators were deposited in, and rolled through, my lines. No matter, I take solace that I’ve definitely learnt my lesson.

Western Smash Day 2: Game 5The last game of the event was against a splinter of Hive Fleet Gorgon. It was a straight up four objectives on a Vanguard deployment: Swarmlord, Tyrant Guard Hive Tyrant, Wings, 2x TL Devourers 10x Termagants, Devourers 30x Hormagaunts, Toxin Sacs Tervigon, Catalyst, Crushing Claws, Toxin Sacs, Toxic Miasma 5x Ymgarl Genestealers 3x Zoanthropes 3x Hive Guard 3x Spore Mines Trygon Much like the previous game hadn’t gone my way, this game didn’t go well for my opponent right from the start. First off he was unable to roll any of the buffs he wanted on the Psychic Power rolls (despite having something like 15 rolls he only got one Iron Arm on the winged Tyrant and virtually no Feel no Pain). In addition to this he started his first turn by rolling double six for Psychic tests on both the Tyrant AND the Swarmlord. Things just got worse when my artillery started falling, wounding the monstrous creatures further and mowing down the Hormagaunt swarm with multiple (and accurate) Manticore blasts. The true facepalm moment was then the Flying Tyrant (now with one wound) tried to cast Iron Arm on itself, proceeded to roll double one and keeled over dead. Following this the Swarmlord was then blown away with Lascannons from the Blimp Things became a little bit dicey when the Trygon and Ymgarl Genestealers arrived behind my lines. I was unable to take the Trygon down the first turn and after taking a hull point off the Manticore (woo hoo) it blew up the Exterminator (killing an Ork). I eventually took off its last wound with a Meltagun. The Genestealers popped up and mauled the CCS, but I was able to take them out with massed firepower from my other nearby units. The Krieg forces deployed for battle: The Tyranid forces streaming towards their objectives (and the squishy Guardsmen): The Banewolf and Blimp came tearing onto the field on the left flank. The Banewolf made directly for the Termagants on their objective and killed them off, only to have the Tervigon spawn another unit. The Blimp deposited an Engineer Squad on left flank and ended the game locked in combat with the Termagants on the objective. Nearby the Tervigon rumbled into assault with the Banewolf and in the ensuing explosion I rolled a six to wound it (it was on its last wound, but it made its save). The Engineers and Termagants were both caught in the blast, but it didn’t resolve the combat. This meant that I held two objectives to one and secured the victory. Full credit goes to my opponent, as he’d been facing gunlines all weekend and despite having some horrible luck maintained an upbeat and friendly demeanour. I definitely want to have a rematch in the future to have a bit more balanced game. I again thank all my opponents for great games and D6 Gaming Melton for facilitating such a fun event. Well, that is it! 10 tournament games over two weekends and now I’m buggered! If you made it to the end of this, thank you for reading!
