Yeah, Im going to need too find a new range. Maybe there's an Izaak Walton League around there somewhere. I haven't got around to looking yet...still searching for digs. I'll show you my "3 Gun" stuff sometime. Cool there is one in Leesburg...I think my membership transfers there. I am allowed guests too, so load up man! loudouniwla.org/host/our-facilities/sight-in-range/There's also Blue Ridge Arsenal in Chantilly, which is where my friends and I go to shoot (indoors), and we've also got a friend who just bought a 13 acre farm in Winchester who has us come out and we all set up in one of his fields.

I just started stripping Natasha's stock. Going to re-finish it with Tung oil. Using a citrus-stripper to remove all the layers of shellac, and it seems to have gone to work right away. Will be checking in another 20 minutes or so to see if I can scrape the test area clean. Natasha before the process: Tester piece: Natasha stripped (WOOOOO! TAKE IT OFF, BABY!):

I sanded the stock with some medium grit sandpaper, then buffed it with steel wool, and then went over it with some 4000 grit sandpaper. Here she is just slapped back together to show progress. I'm going to try to apply Tung oil tomorrow...

Here's the stock after I finished applying the Tung oil: And here is the Mosin Nagant reassembled with the re-finished stock: And the new butt pad: I think that Natasha The Shoulder Breaker looks good as a blonde.

That looks great Trooper! Nice "furniture". Thanks! A sling and some ammo pouches arrived today, and I also purchased a cheap 11 mm dovetail to Weaver adapter and an inexpensive long eye relief pistol scope this morning to further modify it. Will be getting punches and a ball-peen hammer to drift out the roll pins on the rear sight assembly tomorrow. My buddy who got me into Mosins was amazed at how quickly I was able to re-finish the stock, and has been wanting to do a "blonde" stock on his as well, but wasn't sure how to proceed (and his also has a crack behind the tang for the receiver that he needs to repair) so he wanted to see how mine turned out, and is now going to copy what I did. I'm looking into applying an additional layer of a 1:1:1 mixture Tung oil, mineral spirits, and polyurethane to provide more protection for the wood.

Allow me to present Natasha The Shoulder (and Tool) Breaker, with her stock refinished with a 1:1:1 mix of Tung oil:mineral spirits:polyurethane, and sporting a long eye relief pistol scope in place of the stock rear sight assembly, and a rubber butt pad replacing the stock metal butt plate:

Yeah, it's not as if there weren't sniper- and scout-scoped Mosins used by the Soviets during the War. Zaitsev did damn well for himself with the sniper-scoped rifle, and those were only 3 or 3.5X magnification, IIRC. I didn't want to fuss with trying to find a bent-handled bolt (or modify the existing bolt) and modify the stock/receiver (any more than I had to to expose the dovetail) to mount the PU-type scope. The thing that drove me to mount a scope was that the iron sights were pretty badly out of alignment, and even if I could drift the front sight to get it properly aligned (sights were apparently aligned with the bayonet fixed, which is not practical for civilian use) my distance vision is getting sucky with age, so I opted for a 2-7X by 32mm scope to aid in seeing targets.

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!! Hoping to give the muzzle brake a test at some point so I can write a review for the guy at Riflemods who fabricated it for me. Hoping that the replacement screw I need to mount the red dot sight to my *** arrives soon so I can get it mounted and give it a spin too...
