Ok so I'm a tau player too since 3rd edition and I found mention of some interesting, maybe cheese inducing rules in the new codex. I want to pose the question here to see what you guys think of this as it may get faq'ed in the next round of faq's. Under the Ranged Weapons section of the rule book pg. 95 where you can purchase weapons for crisis suits. It says you can buy single versions of certain weapons for 15pts or a twin linked version that takes up two slots for 20pts. Now the cheese part. Under this wording me and my friends think its quite possible to take two single weapons separately for the single costs. Therefore 30pts for two weapons that are not twin linked. We feel it balances its self though too because it costs an extra 10 points and still takes up the two slots. I want to know your guys thoughts.

How that reads to me: So you either have two shots of the same weapon, or a re-roll of a failed shot for 10pts less with the same weapon? Someone who is good at maths can probs work out what you have the best odds at hitting your target with, but I expect your best off saving the 10pts for something else.

Speaking of best chance to hit. I've been using this to take two separate burst cannons on each crisis suit to get 8 shots from each crisis suit giving 24 shots at 18" which is better then a full Firewarrior unit rapid firing.
Or two plasma guns firing 2 up to 24" or 4 times up to 12"

Actually if you want cheese options from the new dex: Piranhas can take an optional two drones, and these drones can detach and form their own unit. When they join with a new unit with a drone controller they can use the controllers BS to fire. 5 Piranhas gives 10 drones. You can join those drones with a commander and his drones. You now have a squad of 12 BS 5 Twin-Linked drones.

But 10pts for the chance pf getting a second hit rather than just making one hit more likely.

And when you have Markerlights around to bump your BS way up, you actually have pretty good odds of getting both of those Hits.
The way it's written, it isn't entirely clear. There's a precedent for being able to take the same item twice in that it's worded almost exactly the same as the option to take Drones, and no one seems to think you can't take two Gun Drones for the same Model.
That said, there's a longstanding tradition in 40K Dexes that you can only take a given option once, unless it's a swap option and you have multiples of what you would need to swap out (usually pistol/ccw), or it specifically says so.
I think it's perfectly reasonable for the most part. The only real problem with it that I can see is as regards WYSIWYG: If you have some Suits with 2 separate Plasma Rifles and some Suits with single TL Plasma Rifles, there's a lot of room for confusion there.
Certainly, I wouldn't go gluing anything together based on either point of view until the next round of FAQs comes out. I can see it going either way, tho I rather suspect it's going to get FAQed that if you take two, they're Twin-Linked.

Yeah I magnetize all my suits anyway. So I never glue options on. lol
