Psycho-indoctrinated to abhor xenos. Even Chaos marines still retain that.

Aren't they also indoctrinated to hate Chaos?
Anyway, my suggestion was primarily motivated by the idea of painting a marine-tau kitbash squad which was then painted with 'restored' chapter colours which drew from both the original scheme and then a slightly remixed version post tau.
I was also thinking a bit of Johnson from eatatua.

I do like tau... haha but back to my original idea. Are there any chapters that are very nomadic and ranged combat oriented but dont have alot of lore?

Any custom chapter you want. Just make it up.
Marines hate chaos as a by product of their loyalty to the emperor. Once that collar is lifted most end up in a chaos warband. The very, very few that don't live solitary, hermit like existences on backwater worlds. We're dealing with numbers so ridiculously small here as well. If a chapter/company even a squad breaks their oaths to the Emperor, it is a group decision, or at the very least a strong and powerful leader from within the ranks that is prone to fall and lead his brothers to chaos. A single marine deciding he's not really up for the gig anymore is a rare event that could lead anywhere, but doesn't make a chapters worth.

The other alternative is something along the lines of Ardaric Vaanes' 'renegades,' who by all sorts of nasty chaos magics have graviated to a daemon world, but still ostensibly fight against the great enemy.

There's at least 20, and that's just the Astartes Preaties, the chapters charged with permanently watching for and fighting off Chaos incursions from the Eye.

You're thinking of the Ultima Segmentum.

Technically everything except Pacificus is directly west of Pacificus, by virtue of it being the entire right side of the Imperium. Obscurus is northwest, Solar is center west, and Tempestus is southwest. Here's a map of the Imperium with GW and several fan made SM chapter homeworlds marked on it. If you want further in depth descriptions of what's in a specific segmentum, spend a few minutes reading about them in the wiki I linked earlier. unequivocalhorizon.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/liberastartesstarmapver2.pngReds

To the original question and like was mentioned you can do whatever you want fluff wise. I was not satisfied with the pre-formed chapters so I made my own home made one. My chapter the "Imperial Wolves" was formed by the remaining loyal marines from the traitor legions the majority being from the Luna wolves and Emperor's children and the few remaining marines from the other chapters minus the thousand sons because they became the Grey Knights. And the chapter was kept and still remains very secretive for fear of their chapters past of being traitors even though they are devout followers of the Imperium. Hail the God Emperor!!!

And the chapter was kept and still remains very secretive for fear of their chapters past of being traitors even though they are devout followers of the Imperium. Hail the God Emperor!!! Threadromancy!! Seeing as its already done though: Mixing geneseed is a bad idea, the loyalist elements of the traitor legions were massacred at Isstvan and your chapter doesn't fit into established lore. Mixing geneseed: If you draw nine different sets of geneseed from nine different legions, you are getting nine vastly different types of marine. Your chapter has the option of mixing gene seed within one aspirant and seeing what happens (forbidden by imperial edict due to high risk of mutation, a stupid thing for a chapter to do for the same reason), or having marines from different (traitor) Primarchs within the chapter. Then we come to the gene tithe, the Mechanicus know the gene markers of traitor legion gene seed. They would spot the chapter for what it was a mile off and a crusade would be launched to cleanse the taint. No loyalist elements left: When Horus, Fulgrim, Mortarion, and Angron gathered at Isstvan, they gathered their entire legions and deployed every single loyalist within their ranks to the surface and dropped virus bombs. Then the traitors dropped to the surface and massacred their erstwhile brethren with ease. The Word Bearers, Iron Warriors, Night Lords and Alpha Legion were had purged their ranks long before they entered the system. The remnants from these chapters are so small, maybe half a dozen individuals maximum that there is no chance if them being able to start a new chapter. The word bearers had no loyalists at all, I doubt there were any night lords willing to stay loyal, not iron warriors. The thousand sons were teleported in their entirety from Prospero to the planet of sorcerers within the eye of terror by Magnus. There is no way for such a chapter to fit into established lore. But it's your chapter, so you are welcome to ignore the above.

My mistake, forgot its already June. Well I just think of my chapter as having a gift from the Imperium to let them stay, they are supposed to do the hardest missions for repentance, and they are overlooked on purpose. Anyways I didn't remember anything about the virus bombs on the loyalists, but I think indeed it is my fluff.

It's a large piece if heresy background. The purging of the loyalist elements of the traitor legions.
