since the tau have been released for a couple of weeks i thought it's about time to start a topic about them, or rather, how to deal with them. I've just read the codex and, as an armoured battalion player, i'm pretty spooked out! that hammerhead special character will single handedly ruin my army on it's own, as will those markerlights. i think my main tactic will still be the same, although i might start to use some more medusas/manticores just to make sure i can insta-pop his hammerheads in turn one.
Some tools I'm thinking of: - Girffons to handle the Fire Warriors, Lascannon (Vendettas and Blobs) for the Suits.
- Psyker Battle Squads for Weaken Resolve. Unless there's an Ethereal nearby, Tau Ld is generally pretty mediocre, so even small PBSs can cause real problems for them. And they're something else that can be largely kept out of LoS and still function.
- Leman Russes. Now that Broadsides only have S8 Heavy Rail Rifles instead of the S10 Railguns, properly screened AV14 is a real pain for Tau to deal with. The Eradicator should be pretty good here, while the basic Russ and Demolisher are the same workhorses they've always been.
- Marbo is nice to use to hit Suits hiding behind an O'mmortal (Iridium) Commander. Basilisks can Barrage Snipe to similar effect, too.
Same way I deal with anyone else who tries to stand up against the Imperial Guard! Hellhounds terrorizing their infantry, the exterminator destroying their wretched transports and the infantry within, CCS plasma death squad in the chimera, missile launchers, grenade launchers, and far too many lasguns for any xeno or heretic to count!
