So long story short, I got my friend into 40k. I play guard, he plays dark angels. I have maybe two years experience on him. Over the past few games he's been getting stronger and stronger tactically. Which is good to see but bad for me. I recently added a Vendetta to my army and played another one of our friends as he watched. It performed pretty poorly coming in turn 4 and killing one wytch and a ravager. He freaked out and desperately went searching for anti air weaponry for his army. I went through his codex with him and we spoke about his options. Dark angel flyers, devastator squads with AA missiles etc. Nothing appealed to him. So we looked at the forge world aeronautica book. We looked at the rhino with the AA weapon. The AA stationary platforms. Nothing. Then I remembered at the previous tournament a guy brought two Contemptor dreads which were supposed to be great at anti air. We read thou it, looked at the rules, did some math hammer and rolled some dice...
He's getting two. Magnetising the arms so he can have the option of having both with the assault cannons or twin linked las cannons or one of each. Oh and the (typhoon?) missile launchers as well.
I've really signed my own death sentence.
SO...
Have you guys come up to them before? How do you deal with them? Thoughts, suggestions greatly appreciated!

Deal with them the way you deal with any big scary thing. Throw enough AP rounds at it to make it die. The Guard use it to out-lasgun Terminators, so why not out-autocannon it?
Also, Pask Tanks are good for that. Maybe a Vanquisher or Exterminator. Hell, even try your luck with Punishers glancing to death.

Front armour 13, so the exterminator could glance it to death. The punisher could hit it in the rear but personally I think it's a hugh waste of points. I guess Pask in a Vanquisher would be the best but that's one expensive tank.

My general approach to AV13 is Melta, but Contemptor Mortis Dreads make that rather difficult for IG to deliver effectively.
Basically, we're left with Lascannon+Bring It Down or another source of Re-Rolls, tho Manticores never hurt, and Medusae/Demolishers can pitch in too. Medusae are better against the dual Assault Cannon version than the Dual Lascannon version, since they can hit from outside of its range.
Also, as I recall, it has to stand still to gain Skyfire and Interceptor. That should help a little, at least in being able to plan your approach in any given game.

If all else fails, Suicide SpecWeps with democharges or melta guns.
