Well Restaurant actually.
I have been for a few interviews and work trials recently and it got me thinking about my own restaurant. My play is to open my own some day, the problem is I don't have the funds. So I thought to my self, what if I can open one for free? People give things away all the time, what if I could get everything I need without spending a penny?
So here I am, not to ask for your money (though I won't turn it down) but to chart my progress in achieving my goal. I will be searching various sites for people giving away the things I need and would ask that the much loved members of this forum keep an eye out for anything you think would be used in a restaurant or promoting my idea to people they think can help.
I have spoken to other members of the forum and have come to the conclusion that the premises and staff would be the hardest to find for free. If anyone knows of a way around this feel free to PM me. I am willing to listen to any advice.
The Restaurant will be based in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. And I am currently looking for a name.

Premises will be the big challenge to get for free. Have you thought about having a mobile kitchen? You could either have 'spot' on an industrial park like you find the burger vans. Or you could go the function route and set up for special events and parties. You might be able to get a old trailer that needs sorting out, but I'm sure you would know a mechanic / sprayer who could help sort it out.
Staff might not be as hard as you think. You could advertise for volunteer kitchen staff looking for experience, or even students who are studying that line of work - again to gain experience.
With regards to finding equipment, they is a swap web site up but I forget the name of it. Basically people put crap they don't want on and give it away.
Names: Fosters Kitchen. Trading Cafe. Give me your IG eatery!

Not wanting to go down the function route and running a 'burger van' type place could end my career. Staff might not be as hard as you think. Student and staff looking for experience are the route I'm thinking too. With regards to finding equipment, they is a swap web site up but I forget the name of it. I don't doubt that's the case for people who want to run a burger van but I want a fine dinning restaurant.

Do both. A van can make enough capital, esp. with the 'free route,' that you could use that to fund the dine-in.
Don't forget: sleep only makes you weak.

I think the key thing here is the Foster doesn't WANT to run a burger van. Irrelevant of its possible lucrative nature.
Foster, you know my advise. I'll keep a look out for kitchen equipment.

Thank you Paradill. You're right I don't want to run a burger van, I could have done that without going to college.
I also plan on putting menu ideas up to get peoples opinions.

Regardless of whether you want to do the van or not, it might be the only no expense option.
Note it doesn't have to be a burger van, you could have a more upmarket van selling expensive meals, but there would be no tables/ seating area, which would put people off. Ideally you need a large seating/ table area and lots of waiters, plus you need to shout and swear at everyone, Gordon Ramsey style.
I know its illegal to set up tables and chairs on a public highway if you have a burger van, but sometimes you see ones in parks with tables, etc. Maybe enquire in a local park how much they would charge to let you set up shop there and have some tables. Plus public parks are quite busy.

No one goes to parks. They're for increasing property value; having people congregate there would defeat the purpose.
