So I came across the following model today: www.heresy-online.net/forums/modelling-painting/48511-how-not-build-valkyrie.htmlI must say I really like the conversion, not to mention it suits the AV10 really well so tonight, after work i'm hoping in the LGS to get a valkyrie kit and try to build this baby boy. Now as for the rules, what options do you prefer on a thunderbolt? Do any of you have any experience using one? Since the model isn't official it might also double as -lightning strike fighter -avenger strike fighter -i feel a vulture is too much a stretch eprsonally but hey why not. Are any of these flyers a more solid option? I have actually never studied the forgeworld flyers up close since they were too expensive anyway

The thunderbolt is official, its in the Armor Battle Group list as navy air support, the closest model proxy to a thunderbolt is a lightning, as the lightning are a smaller and agile cousin of it, the avenger is more of a air to ground fighter, the others are gunships, the thunderbolt is a real air to air fighter.

don't worry mac, i know the thunderbolt is an official model, just that this conversion isn't the forgeworld one, nor does it look completly similar to it, hence why i wondered if i could end up using it as any of the other aircraft model. anyway, my conversion is almost done. i've put magnets underneatht he wings so i can alter the weapon loadout. what weapons do you think are most suited on a thunderbolt? the 6 bombs? the 4 hellstrike missiles or the 4 skyfire missiles?

I would load out the skyfire missiles as its a air to air missile, the thunderbolt will eat the other flyers.

Freakin' WOW. I wanna try that conversion now. I've been wanting a T-bolt forever, and that looks pretty dang close. I think it could be taken for a Lightning in a pinch, but me, I'd stick to the Thunderbolt.
I had been considering converting a 1/35th scale Mig-1/3 model, as the profiles are similar, but this is so much easier it's no contest!

Could I run an Armor Battle Group with a command salamander for my HQ?
Like field my Raver pattern thunderbolt in game without going unbound?

yes, the command team can ride in a salamander as your HQ choice, the fliers are limited to 0-1 per army, so either a thunderbolt/avenger/ or lightning as a heavy choice.

In the armour battle group list, its an navy air detachment in the Heavy choice slot, 0-1 ; it means unless you go unbound army list, you can only take 1 of the fliers.

Soooo... after I take a squad of thunderbolts, can I take a Vendetta as well? NOT unbound of course.

You can take only 1 or single thunderbolt, not a squadron if you want to keep it none unbound. you can take 1 squadron between 1-3 of either vendetta or vulture for a FA choice, you cannot mix 1 vendetta and 2 vulture for the squadron, must be the same type.
